bill. three dead and dozens injured after flames break out at a hawaii high-rise. the one thing that caused the fire to spread. "news 4 at 11:00" starts now. new details tonight on a family tragedy in fairfax county. i'm erika gonzalez. neighbors stunned to learn a young woman killed her mother and turned the gun on herself. darcy spencer talked to people in the community and joins us live from mclaine tonight. darci. >> reporter: erika we are here on dean drive. this is the house where the tragedy unfolded yesterday afternoon. the fairfax county police cruiser still parked in the driveway. neighbors telling me until recently there was a seven-year-old girl living in the house. they were relieved to find out she was safe. neighbors confirmed this is a

a contractor killed in her home by her daughter. they confirm this is the daughter, helen hargan, who police say pulled the trigger shooting her mom and taking her own life. police received a call saying someone may have been killed inside the home. when they forced their way in they found the bodies. for a second day fairfax county police continue their investigation into the murder/suicide on dean drive. they brought out bags of evidence. a police dog sniffed around the. a man pulled up and removed tools from his truck and took them inside the home. neighbors say pamela hargan only lived here a couple of years and another daughter was living here with her seven-year-old daughter and they were not here. some had not seen or heard of the younger daults believe to have committed the crime. as police came in and out of the house neighbors wondered what happened here and whad

bill. new at 11:00, a deadly fire at a senior living facility in virginia. take a look at cellphone video of the flames shooting out from the complex early this morning. police in chesapeake say three people died and six others including two firefighters were hurt. investigators are working to figure out what sparked the fire. people who live in the center say a huge boom woke them up. and right now, another investigation into what caused a deadly fire, this one in hawaii. flames raced up the beach-front high-rise. new tonight, nbc's morgan radford is learning more about the victims. >> reporter: tonight, new details on the victims of the high-rise fire. brit weller, a 54 year old inflight manager and his 85 year old mother amongst the dead. the fire shocking resident of the 36-story beach side building. >> i smelled somethi b

and i saw black billowing smoke. >> reporter: shrieks of terror coming from the 26th floor where the fire start. the three killed by the fire found there, at least a dozen more injured as the flames spread upward engulfing three floors. >> i looked down. i could see the billowing smoke coming up. i heard three women's voices screaming, pleading, moaning, please, help me. >> reporter: more than 50 firefighters raced into the building scrambling from room to room trying to rescue those trapped in the blaze. the building was bit in 1971 before sprinklers were required. >> without a doubt if there were sprinklers in this apartment the fire would be contained to the unit of origin. >> reporter: sprinklers, expert say, can mean the difference between life and death. >> sprinklers are very important in stopping the spread of fire. >> reporter: is this a wakeup call? >> it should

dramatic police body cam footage shows the moments after an suv driver smashed through a barrier and crashed into a train. it happened around 3:00 this morning near houston, texas. the train dragged the su 100 yards. police were trying to rescue two people trapped in the vehicle when the unthinkable happened, the train started to move. >> tell it to stop! stop the train! >> both people were eventually freed from the wreck and flown to the hospital. investigators are checking to see if alcohol was a factor in this crash. olympic swimmer ryan lochte is off the hook. a brazilian court is dropping charges that he filed a fake robbery report. the u.s. swimmer got into trouble at the rio olympics last summer. he first claimed he was robbed at gun point at a gas station after a night of celebrating,

now a rio court is dropping its case. it says the claim lochte made didn't constitute filing a report. sad news on a story that a lot of you have been following. julius, the baby giraffe, has died at the maryland zoo. julius was born last month at the zoo in baltimore but he never developed a strong immune system. his condition deteriorated overnight and zoo officials say they made the decision to humanely euthanize him. investigators are trying to figure out what started a fire in montgomery county. a man and a woman were trapped upstairs. thankfully first responders rescued them this morning and were able to get them to the hospital. we're told their injuries are not serious. investigators were back at that house on logan driech in potomac this afternoon. they say the fire started in the kitchen. an all-girls robotics team from afghanistan arrived at dulles airport overnight. they were greeted by a

degrees. reagan national hit a high of 90. first weather headline, gorgeous again tomorrow. pretty low humidity for mid-july, plenty of sunshine and no threat of rain for sunday. as we look to the beginning of the workweek, i can't rule out afternoon and evening thunderstorm chances. not a huge risk but there. after that it is all about the heat and hue midity returning to the area. right now, it is not so bad out there in the suburbs. you can see the temperatures dropping just now the culpepper and fredericksburg. the district holding on to 80. leesburg at 77. it will be a comfortable night relatively speaking in the suburbs tonight, and even not so bad here in washington. tomorrow morning 7:00 a.m., 74 degrees in the district but the suburbs will start out in the mid 60s. folks saying on twitter it sounds like tomorrow is the day to get the run in earlier or the yard work done. with low humidity
