a young girl shot and killed her mother before killing herself. you are looking at social media, and it shows the mother on the right and the daughter as the 23-year-old on the left, and the chilling crime happened on friday in their home and neighbors are still stunned. >> i cannot believe it. it's just unreal to me. how could you do that? >> neighbors say another daughter, who has a child, was living with her mother in that house, and they were not there at the time of the crime. still, the motive is unknown. every time kids take a dip at one local pool they will be wr reminded of a beloved swim coach. she was killed in a car crash as she headed to a

funeral service yesterday. more lives will be saved after a special event in the district. and the group held a swabbing drive in northwest yesterday and it's something they do every month. people that want to donate bone marrow need to swab their cheeks and the swab goes into a registry to help find matches. for one mom it helped to save her little girl. >> some random person helped to save my daughter's life. >> she is doing much better thanks to the transplant. check out this amazing video. a water spout. this is taken east of the bay bridge near gibson island yesterday. >> you can see it's spinning across the

four until 6:00. it's a beautiful morning already. morning planner, 71 degrees for right now. we will continue to warm up. we will be back in the mid to lower 80s by the time we head into the lunch hour. if you are headed outside today, today is looking good. tonight, fantastic. and then monday and tuesday, having to watch for p.m. storms but not going to be that bad. today temperatures are around 90. yesterday we hit 90 again with that low humidity in place. so it was not that bad yesterday. very similar conditions today, although i think we will remain dry today. it's seasonable, an average temperature for this time of year is 89 degrees. if you are headed out to the pool, you are looking good for that as well. tomorrow and tuesday, that's when we have a chance for storms. humidity rolling back in overnight and it will be with us all throughout next week. monday and tuesday, while it might be good days

pool, we have chances for thunderstorms thursday and friday, and so tomorrow you will feel a difference as the humidity starts to pump again overnight. tomorrow we will also reach 90. we will be around the 90-degree mark and then we will have a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms. it's going to feel hotter than that because of that humidity. again, what we are looking at, plenty much sunshine out there today. comfortable and nice with that temperature right around 90, and we will be dry today. enjoy another comfortable day out there. and then as we get into your monday and tuesday, we will have those chances for thunderstorms in the afternoon, and the temperature right around 90 degrees for your monday and tuesday, and not everybody going to get soaked with thunderstorms, and we don't believe they will be that strong, but what you will feel on monday and tuesday is the humidity, and then you will feel the heat and humidity as we get into wednesday and thursday

thursday. now, there's a chance we could reach triple digits, i should say, by the time we get into thursday. some of the guidance is suggesting that, and i stopped it at 97. wednesday and thursday will be dry, just an isolated chance of showers and possibly a few thunderstorms as we get to friday. we will cool just a bit, but the humidity not dropping until next saturday. by the time we get into this workweek it's going to be hot and humid, and then by the time we get into saturday, that's the next time we will see more comfortable conditions next saturday. >> what a week. >> it's coming. we have "reporter's notebook" up with for you next. good morning, and i am pat lawson muse. the decision to scrap relocation plans for the fbi headquarters

local leaders jockeying for the relocation, but the feds say there's not enough money for this move. tom sherwood and scott mcfarland join us. many say prince georges had the most to lose. >> there's a lot of people with a lot to lose. prince georges may be leading the pack. and there are others. the u.s. government may be the biggest loser. they still need a new facility. the fbi is very decentralized in our area. there are dozens of fbi offices because they have overgrown the hoover building and the hoover building is just in disrepair. literally, there are crumbling walls. >> and not only was this decision to keep it where it is puts national security at risk andte

>> that's because a building is the vojoke now. ford, the president, dedicated the building. it long-lived out it's usefulness more than a decade ago. only a few of the fbi agents are at this headquarters, and the idea for efficiency to get them in one place, and for security to have them in one place, and the district loses in this, too, because that build something a dead zone on pennsylvania avenue. >> and they were counting on redeveloping the site. >> and yeah, the city was looking for the redevelopment, and the person who won the bid to rebuild the fbi unit was also going to build offices on that site, and so the whole region loses. now that it has

trump killed the idea because he's mad at the fbi, and it seems to me that is not true. >> i have not heard a lot of credible people saying that. this is why it happened this week. this week was the week they were going to markup the justice spending and at some point we have to have a conversation of where are we in the administration, and we are nowhere and the fund something not nearly close to what it has to be. >> tory stewart is tossing his hat in the ring for the strong egs republican for the gop nomination, and he says if he wins he is going to take it to tim kaine? >> well, cory stewart is cory stewart. many wrote him off against gillespie, and the polling showed he was behind and people

confederate statutes, and then he came within 1.5 percentage points of beating the established candidate, and now he's running against tim kaine, and so national republicans want cory stewart and ed gillespie to have a truce so stewart's campaign for senate doesn't affect the campaign for governor which is coming up in november. >> the cory stewart phenomenon, it's clear what it means in the primary. the trump force that stays loyal to trump is the most potent force of republican politics when it comes to primaries. you can corral the 36% and keep them loyal to you you are a force in any gop primary at anytime and any level.

once a year, sorry, there is a 30-day percent, where you could wipe out the tickets and the fees and the add ones. why is this important? he says too many poor people, working people, get caught in the vice and don't pay the tickets on time and they double, and they don't pay them on time because they don't have the money, because they get locked in. so they should pay their tickets, but let's give them once a month to pay their particul tickets. >> he wanted to decriminalize to take away the possibility of jail time and significantly reduce the fine for people who

on the streets. police are calling a shift change a measured and temporary response, and i suppose on how temporarily is how long this continues. >> they need more officers, and no force has a full contingent of officers, and you can only make your officers work five days a week, and it's not only wear and tear on the police officers but on the budget. there are a lot of issues about this. and you want the police chief and leaders want to reassure the public they are doing something to recognize this huge spike in violent crime. >> two summers ago we learned the conversation about the violent crimes. and this is not new to america, and this is right now a prominent issue of prince georges county. we heard the chief reference firearms a lot and people settling disputes with firearms is the under coating of the

all of our local police departments are facing, and recruitment fares for police officers are combats between police departments trying to get them to come in, and if you are a spanish-speaking police recruiter you are the most sought after professional in the region because they need you. >> if you go through the training there, you become a officer in the district then the suburban forces say to come and work for us, and it's less intense, but it's a big issue. >> nearly every local police department is beneath its level of sworn officers. they are facing the same battle to recruit. it's a problem that is systemic, and it hits every jurisdiction and perhaps it becomes more relevant. >> unfortunately, this is true in the field of nursing,

teaching and there are just so many places where there's a need for public service. >> news4 learned the operating room at the va medical center in the district had been shut down because of maintenance issues, while the shut down was only for a few hours, it followed a series of problems at the facility recently. scott, you covered this. what happened this time? what was the impact on patience? >> the air-conditioning failed in an operating room, for three hours surgeries were delayed and it's repaired and back open and functioning again, and this is just the latest in a series 6 problems. the inspectors found seams in the surgical floors and a cockroach infestation in the services area, and some could use better management and this is different becau

forecast. a five alarm fire in a tropical paradise. look at the scene there. it's highlighting the danger in buildings that do not have life-saving equipment. the high-rise fire in honolulu created an inferno on the beach claiming three lives and injuring a dozen others, and fire officials say the lack of sprinklers allowed that fire to spread. >> new details on the victims of the high-rise fire. the fire shocking residents of the beach side building. >> i smelled something burning and i looked over my left shoulder and i saw black billowing smoke. >> the fire started on th

minutes. 6:43 right now. the senate dealing with another setback in its health care bill. >> mitch mcconnell announcing he will delay a key vote this week while john mccain is recovering from surgery. how big of a blow is the delay for the republicans or it is more of a reprieve. >> the fact that one vote matters tells you everything about the precarious nature of the bill. the time has not been good for this bill so more time is not good. the fact of the matter is, john mccain can't travel, and that is a tough thing to ask somebody to do, so that part of it is legitimate. i don't think -- i don't know. notice, there isn't a new start date for when they say they are going to start voting.
