road area. that's where construction is going on. starting today and for several weeks, we're talking about warnings that will be going out to you if you drive above the posted speed limit. then after that, on august 7th, be ready to get a ticket for 40 bucks. this is because of the automated speed system that will be in effect and, of course, all of this is designed to create a safe work zone in those areas. the studies have shown according to the maryland state highway officials. there are accidents that can occur in those work zones where there's construction work going on. we're talking about the beltway near suitland road and in many cases those accidents -- in those accidents, passengers and the drivers get hurt. not the workers in those construction zones. this is a big heads up about safety as well as an alert to your

'he has to be found. they can't stop looking until he's found. >> that search resumes for the father of a family. this is cell phone video here. the waves overtook a creek in northern phoenix. it's a popular swimming home. when weather conditions are bad, it can be very dangerous. nine are confirmed dead. more than half of the victims are children. making the search even harder for that missing father, storms are expected in the same a

>> angie, thank you. it is 6:05. developing this morning, d.c. police are investigating two different crime scenes in two separate parts of the city. one man was shot and the other stabbed. >> this comes at a time when the number of crimes are down in the district. but police are working to prevent a summer spike. the first incidents happened on 9th and d streets off maryland avenue. around midnight, someone shot a man. the man who was conscious and breathing when they took him to the hospital. >> about an hour and a half later, a man was stabbed in southeast d.c. this happened on good hope road not far from ketchum elementary school. this victim was also alert when he was taken to the hospital. it's not clear whether the shooting and stabbing are related. >> right now, homeowners living in riverdale heights are on edge after a man died in the middle of the street. prince george's county police say the victim was a hispanic man in his 30s. still working to identify him. a homeowner discovered the body around 4:00 a.m. on

come back to shore. he didn't see the couple on the blanket and ran over them. both people were seriously hurt. it's incredible that the driver of this van survived a huge piece of scrap metal that fell from above here. this happened on an interstate in orange county, florida. the metal became loose when a truck lost control and hit a grd rail. it september the piece flying. the van driver only had minor injuries. >> incredible. it was a wild and terrifying scene that played out in front of people enjoying a summer day on an indiana lake. >> a boat operator lost control. ten people ended up overboard. >> now, police say the boat was going at a high rate of speed and made a violent turn. by the time help arrived, that boat was making circles at 30 miles per hour. it didn'tp

into a police patrol boat and another officer on a jet ski was able to crilimb on board. >> i was stepping into that boat. >> police say alcohol was a factor here. the boat's operator was arrested. angie goff with breaking news out of clarksburg, maryland. chopper 4 over the scene as we take a closer look and zoom in at this house fire. this two-story house. you can see on the side of it. this is the rear of the house. a big black gaping hole. it appears that this fire perhaps may have started there on the deck. you can see a good portion of the deck completely charred. this is in the 23,000 block of timber creek lane in montgomery county. fire and ems responding starting around 3:30. notice that you don't see fire engines or firefighters on the ground right now. they have left the scene. they got the hotspots out. the good news, everybody was able to get out of the house

vote, a continued traditional arlington national cemetery and a warning for anyone taking the beltway in maryland. >> first, though, let's go to a new development out of montgomery county. >> new this morning, a house fire investigation is under way in clarksburg. chopper 4 was just over the scene about 15 minutes ago. take a look there at some of the burned remains. this happened around 3:30 this morning in the 23,100 block of timber creek lake. no one was hurt. >> that was matthew schuler. a former contestant on the voice. he sang during an emotional vigil last night to honor the lives of four men murdered in pennsylvania. according to court documents, the killing spree began july 5th during a drug deal. two suspects are behind bars. >> thousands of people are out of their homes as fast-moving wildfires devoured parts of western canada. more than 160 fires are burning and a number of homes and

businesses have been destroyed. canada's british columbia is under a state of emergency. >> senate republicans head back to washington today with another setback to their health care bill. >> senator mitch mcconnell is delaying a key vote this week. angie goff is in the newsroom with the latest. >> eun, aaron, the latest delay is due to his unschedule surgery over the weekend. he cannot travel back to washington just yet. that means republicans have to wait to vote on the bill until mccain trourns capitol hill. one thing that the delay makes clear, that republicans don't have any wiggle room to get the bill passed. so far, two republicans do not support the bill. three no votes would actually kill the plan. even though there's not going to be a vote doesn't mean there won't be action looking ahead through the week. several groups planning to protest the bill on capitol hill over the next couple of days. this is part of a multiday peoples filibuster

folks driving along quite nicely right now in prince george's county. but here's the deal. we are seeing cars flying past 55 miles per hour speed limit. now, starting today for the next several weeks, you're going to get a warning if you go 12 miles or faster above the 55 mileposted speed limit in this area. they have to do this. they're saying that it's a safety issue in this area where you will see construction barrels, where you will see the lanes narrowing. and in many cases, when there are accidents, it is the passengers and the drivers who are hurt, not necessarily the workers in these zones. so this is an issue about safety. now, on august 7th, if you go faster than the posted speed limit, you will get a $40

up for all of this. this is going on now through august 7th. that's when you'll get a for real ticket for your speeding in this area. i'm molette green along the beltway. back to you. >> molette, thank you. it's 6:47. police are looking into whether a driver experienced a medical emergency in a crash saturday evening. the 22-year-old man crashed his car on south van dorn street in alexandria. police say the man was fine when he was taken to the hospital. however, his medical condition worsened and he died. an autopsy will determine the cause of delt. sarah aue rechlt was 21 years old when she was killed in a traffic accident. now the pool has been renamed in her honor. she was a swim coach at the western county outdoor pool. she was on the way to the pool when she died. her influence will
