new arrests, but no new movement on a controversial issue that effects all of us. first to our weather, as heavy rain hits part of our region. the radar still tracking a few pop-up showers tonight. >> doug has got a closer look at the conditions right now and the heat that's returning this week, doug. >> oh, man, i'll tell you the heat can be the bigger story as we head through the next couple of days. some of it extremely heavy. some of you going, if you are south of the patomic south of dc, almost no rain at all in those areas but just to the north, montgomery county, northern prince georges county, it was coming down. it was a little bit earlier, extremely heavy rain fall, prompted a flash flood warning which is still in effect, numerous roads were closed around the laytonville area. we saw reports of hail. you can take a look on storm team 4.

and still dealing with the thunderstorms, these pop up storms that are coming through now, look at the one at frederick, continuing jefferson county. this is what i told you earlier. we could see loudoun county. we did have one around the sterling area, a little one now. look at this one, just to the east of shepherd's town area and then this guy, the strongest storm now, not severe. but a lot of lightning with this right over chevrolet, right around the area, you can see route 50 as it makes its way out of dc. and if you make a line here, this is actually a little bit of a line that's trying to make its way down towards dc. we could see more showers develop in this area here. so don't think you're out of the woods yet, we're down towards the area, may see a few more storms as we move on through the rest of the night tonight. we hit a high temperature of 90 degrees down to 87 now. but could be near 100 by the end of this week and it could be prolonged hea

last week, only hot, guys. >> we're getting use to this, almost. thank you, doug. terrorism has been ruled out after a security scare on capitol hill today. >> well, tonight things are slowly returning to normal as we learn more about the man who plowed into a barrier and a police cruiser. this happened around lunchtime in an area that's usually packed with workers and tourists. several streets had to be shutdown for hours before police gave the all clear. >> joins us near the scene with new information about the guy behind the wheel. >> reporter: well, we don't know who he is or why he did it. we know he's facing some serious charges. they include assault with a deadly weapon. felony assault on a police officer. aggravated reckless driving and driving without a permit. this is all after the incident that happened just behind me here. as we said, this happened just before lunchtime. >> u.s. capitol police say this compact car was headed west

a barrier and u.s. capitol police cruiser at the intersection to second street. both the driver of the cruiser and the other car had minor injuries. police immediately turned their attention to that car, they cordoned off several blocks and brought in a remote-controlled robot. there were two disruptions, small controlled explosions set off remotely to disrupt any explosives in that car. finally a bomb technician was sent in to search the vehicle. shortly after that, police gave the all clear and both of those vehicles involved were towed away. >> now, unlike so many things that happened here on the hill that involved police incidents like this, most of what they do is out of an abundance of caution. as we said earlier, police do not believe there was a nexus of terrorism in this incident. they do want to know what prompted it. back to you. >> derrick, thank you. you may remember another security scare on capitol hill a few months ago back in march,

district sped away from a traffic stop and nearly hit a capitol police officer right near the bo tannic garden. officers fired shots at the driver. but she was not hurt and was taken into custody at the time her family said she suffered from mental health issues. >> well, thought he was doing someone a good deed here, gave the young man a ride in the middle of the night. now a sheriff's deputy could be in trouble after he ended up being carjacked and then had his surface weapon stolen. strange chain of events took place last week in clark county. julie carey joins us live from l loudoun county and she's got details on how residents and cows played a part in the suspect's arrest. >> believe it or not, the cows behaving strangely caused the residents to take notice, investigation here into the deputy con a

county, the investigation into this carjacking suspect from new york. >> -- this was the scene, for marlin miller and his wife, it was quite a wake up call. >> i think 17 police cars in the front yard. >> the bizarre incident that led here, started much earlier around 4:00 a.m. when this man, 22-year-old reportedly got a ride from an off duty loudoun's sheriff's deputy. he dropped a car off. soon after he realized his cell phones were missing. when he returned to confront, the suspect got hold of his service weapon and carjacked his personal suv. the manhunt was on. the clark county sheriff's office issued an emergency alert so residents would know the suspect was on the loose. that's where these cattle come in. when they started acting up, the men working at the farm

and we've got one for you, as a matter of fact, and rain coming down and for the montgomery county, that prompted the flash flood warning, that's been dropped. one shower in parts, we're back to the west and few south of from fredericksburg. this is the area we're watching now, around fredericks, and right on down towards the dc metro area, now, wouldn't be surprised to see a few more showers develop in this area tonight. so heads up there, but right now, right around shefr leaf, you can see down towards the kettering area, around 495 and the beltway. we could see showers and

fairfax line coming out of the storms helps to create some of those. this is the one around shep pard's town. and just to the west of frederick, around middle town. we're seeing a lot of rain here over the last one to two hours. wouldn't be surprised to see minor flooding. you want to make your way out and about. the wider view here, showing, this has been a line and we've seen some severe weather to the north and east. we've seen a couple of flash flood warnings out there. this is going to move off towards the east and behind it. we'll stay on the hot and rather mild side as well. you can see what's happening. out of the northeast at 12 miles per hour. that's from that line, that wind coming out of that thunderstorm, actually, hoping to cool things off. 90, culpepper. 88 right now in fredericksburg. where we've seen the rain, all coming in the 70s take a look at the heat index, 94 fredericksburg. 96, that t

every mom and dad. parents want to know why it took seven months to arrest a former classroom mate, carlos was arrested earlier this month, but parents say they found suspicious texts from bell on the child's phone in december. charles county state's attorney has been up front about the problem. they're saying they have too few investigators in too many cases. >> the reality is that, they don't have the resource to get it done, doesn't mean they're up there twitling their thumbs not doing anything. >> police say bell abused at least ten and saying there's no clue, more were victimized to comb through their files. an investigation fire news partner is taking a look at just how backed up the crime labs are. the maryland state police computer forensic lab, for example, has four people to process all of their cases. that unit is ten months behind on t

it's a mystery why an adult daughter killed her mother before turning the gun on herself. friday night police were called to a house on dean drive. they forced their way inside and found two women dead. pamela was the mother. she was 63 years old. the government contractor. her daughter, 23-year-old helen is believed to be the killer.
