william minor says he's lived in the city a long time and he says something has to be done. >> cut my neighbors grass. >> responsible for this. doreen, back to you. >> pat collins reporting. thank you, pat. sheriff's deputies say they had no choice but to shoot a man behind the wheel. they say the driver presented a deadly threat so they pulled the trigger. he died. it happened last night near the intersection of griffinsburg road and culpepper county. news 4 kristin wright has the details about what led up to the shooting. >> reporter: we have new

information tonight that says that three deputies were involved. >> i heard a car speeding by the road in front of the house. went across the intersection. and then i heard a series of gunshots. >> on quiet route 522 in culpepper. the gunshot sounded louder than you would imagine. >> it sounded like popcorn, five or six right after each other. >> according to state police, deputies chased assault suspect eric clark, few details have been released about the encounter. the sheriff presented a deadly threat so deputies fired. >> and i just heard a pop, pop, pop, pop, and i knew that that was a handgun. i've heard somebody saying several gunshot wounds. i heard what sounded like a person in distress. >> state police say deputies recovered clark's shotgun. but no information so far saying he threatened deputies with that gun. people around here say law enforcement is a tough job but they would like to know more. >> of course, i

know and get to the bottom of what actually happened because it concerns me because it's my community and i, you know, it makes me nervous. >> sheriff scott jenkins posted on facebook saying in part, i'm deeply saddened by what they were forced to do and pray for comfort for everyone effected. clark with 43 and from culpepper, deputies who were involved are on modified duty, meaning the sheriff will determine their assignments. deputies here at the department had no body cameras, some cruisers do have dash cams. in culpepper, kristin wright, news 4. turning now to the weather, we have pop up thunderstorms for some of us. >> no relief in sight. >> as far as the heat is concerned, it gets worse as you move on to the next couple of days. this will be the longest and hottest stretch of the heat that we've seen so far this year. tracking the storms on storm team 4, radar. most of us are on the dry side right now. we've got a couple of storms

sick. hungry people keep trying the restaurant in sterling virginia, chris, what happened? >> as you can see behind me, it's dark, that's because it's close. >> dinner time customers are disappointed to find the front door locked here at the chipotle. >> temporarily closed. employees inside are cleaning, sanitizing and preparing food to reopen. there are reports that some of the customers who ate here since last friday got sick suffering stomach distress. the web site i was poisoned.com has posted from eight people saying they ate at the same location in sterling and say they got sick.

chris lee was one of them. >> i ate here on fri p.m. i had a salad bowl with chicken about 7:00 on saturday, really bad. like stomach pains. i just got better today, basically. >> beth tells us she got sick after eating a salad from chipotle in sterling on friday. she says her daughter had the same thing. >> we decided to call the ambulance, because i couldn't even sit down. the ambulance took me to leesburg hospital. nurovirus does not come from our food supply. it is safe to eat at chipotle. we plan to reopen the restaurant today. when it does reopen, loyal customers say they will be back. >> i love chipotle. do you want me to repeat it to you? i love chipotle.

>> you see, today there was a team of loudoun county health inspectors here. after that, i said will this chipotle in sterling reopen? she said, i believe not today. doreen, back to you. >> chris gordon, thank you. chipotle stock down seven percent. but something similar happened on a much larger scale a couple of years ago, between late 2015 and early 2016, chipotle customers nationwide were sickened in a string of e. coli, salmonella and nurovirus out breaks. sales plummeted. the stock fail. they vowed to tighten food safety standards. they closed every store temporarily for a company wide meeting on food safety. the chain then turned to marketing and give aways to lure customers back. >> it was a two-part campaign promise repeated for two years

then the democrats are going to come to us and say how do we f hill with health care future of millions hanging in the ballots. >> today a group of bipartisan governors, ability a dozen governors came out and urged senators not to repeal obama care without having something to which to replace it. they also said that governors should have a seat at the table and urge bipartisan cooperation on this. doreen, among the governors to sign that pledge was virginia's governor terry, a democrat and mary hogan of maryland, a republican. >> blayne alexander, thank you. >> 11 days after the fact, we're learning there was a second meeting between president trump and vladimir putin at the g 20 summit. it happened after the leaders held their first face-to-face meeting later that night. foreign policy specialist first reported the meeting today on charlie rode show. he said the conversation lasted an hour, nbc news reached out to white house officials for confirmation. they say there was a couples

only social dinner at to premier putin towards the end. no members of the president's staff or his cabinet were there. >> a big break for investigators after a baby was shot in his stroller and survived. one person now arrested as police offered new clues and the search for others in connection with this high profile case. >> atv destroyed, but at what cost to taxpayers. the reason police are demolishing the vehicles instead of reselling them to the public.

>> new debate over development. to build new one down, two to go in the search for suspects in the shooting of a one-year-old. the little boy was in a stroller when he got caught in the cross fire in northeast dc last week. news 4 mark seagraves is in the studio with more on the arrest. and the others police are still seeking, mark. >> that's right, doreen. the good news is that little boy, jeremiah is back home and he's doing just fine. today police chief expressed his frustration that a gun fight could break out in a community courtyard while children were outside playing. >> dc police chief peter knew son called the shooting of one-year-old jeremiah despicable. he was happy to announce the

arrest of suspect number one. 39-year-old derrick watson seen exchanging gunfire with two other men as neighbors and their children raced for cover during the shoot out. one-year-old jeremiah was shot twice. >> police are still looking for two other men, including this man, 27-year-old shaheed washington. jeremiah's mother told news 4 the day after the shooting, she thought her backyard was a safe place for children to play. >> i didn't expect it to happen at all. >> today, chief knew son echoed that same frustration. >> it's very upsetting, you know what i mean. they were out there on a typical monday sunday evening, young kids were out there. they were enjoying the evening out in the courtyard and you had three grown men that decided to settle a dispute with fire arms and with no regard for the fact that they were young kids in the area, you know, that kid is going to have to live with that for the rest of his life.

>> and watson is charged with assault with looking for are facing the same charge chief nehsham said today, it doesn't matter which gunfired the shots that hit the little boy. all three men are equally responsible. he hopes the public can help them to be found. >> thank you, mark. well, it was bad. that's how one witness described this early morning house fire in northwest dc. you can see why. look at these pictures here. red flames, black smoke, into the sky. firefighters, few called them being more urgent. fire in the middle of the night occupied road house. they called for reinforcement and knocked down the flames before fire could spread beyond two houses. the other one was treated for heat exhaustion. but this whole situation could have been worse. dc fire officials say that smoke detectors did what they were suppose to. they gave the first warning of the fire. >> dc police confiscated and

crushed dozens of atv and dirt bikes. we have e we're getting a look at the price tag for the bikes at the scrap yard, questions were raised how they weren't sold off and how much it cost to destroy them. news 4 it was $777 to transport on large flat bed trucks. but spokesperson said that mpd broke even for the money they got from the scrap metal and they did not resell them. they had to keep them from getting back out on the streets. >> she called 911 to report a possible sexual assault in an ally near her home. but when police arrived they shot and killed her. tonight the family of a bride to be is no closer to understanding why it happened. today the medical examiner in minneapolis ruled the death a homicide. nbc sarah has more on the family's push for more information. >> isn't that amazing. >> known for her life is a spiritual teacher and healer.

many are remembering 40-year-old justine damond. >> the bride to be was shot and killed by a police officer she called for help late saturday night reporting a possible assault. two officers responded. but what led to the shooting remains unknown. >> shots fired. we had ems code 3 washington and 53rd street. >> i have the same questions everybody had. what happened. >> minneapolis' mayor and others are calling for accountability. why were the officer's body cameras were not on and why did the squad car camera failed to capture the shooting. >> we thought yesterday was our worst nightmare. but we look to the ugly truth and it hurt even more. >> officer reportedly fired his weapon from the passenger seat of the squad car. he and his partner are on administrative leave as the state agency now handles the investigation.

two days. pretty good number tomorrow. and then we're just talking about heat and humidity. i mean, you really see what's happening. look around our region, the showers and storms that are around here, we have a lot back around the parts of the county, back towards little ridge in the city. we saw a really big storm right over parts of north east, portions of prince georges kouny, but now some rain falling now, some lighter rain falling inside the district. we were watching this shower, as well, around the shan tilling area just to the north and west, had a lot of lightning with it. that one starting to rain southbound. i'm looking at this one back to the north and west here just about the blue mont region, see if i can do a little bit of a zoom in. this one is forming. this is a brand new storm that's forming around blue mont, no lightning associated with it, yet, we could see that. as we see this line right here. that line actually some wind that's making it way to the west, could spawn a few more storms back towards blue mont,

so, heads up in that region, down to the sou a lot of storms down here, back along i-80, page county, culpepper county, all seeing some pretty good storms in this area, they're not moving a lot, either. if you're in this region driving through some of the mountains and driving through some of the rain out here, we could see some localized flooding. that's something to remember. you can see a lot of showers and storms, really, away from the coastline back here, we'll continue to see. take a look at our city camera shot. there's one of the showers. you can see the sun making its way down behind the storm, that storm, as i mentioned, in the shan tilly area. winds out of the southeast after high temperature today of 91, or actually 92 is what we hit today. we're at 82 in the city. 78 because of the rain. leesburg also some rain at 82 degrees. no rain in fredericksburg, temperature at 90. next couple of days boy do we heat up big time. highs today 92. high tomorrow 96 tomorrow. 97 thursday.

patomic river bridge. cutting back on candy and property. most of the people who live there today are descendants of freed slaves. >> so now residents are fighting back to one of the country's biggest power companies. the carver road area in gainesville has a history dating back to the late 1,800. dominion wants to build powerlines to support a new amazon business. darcy spencer explains where this fight stands. >> reporter: residents and their

supporters demand theri supervisor join them in their fight against dominion energy. the company wants to build new powerlines in their historic african-american community in gainesville. >> people are tired. they're tired of bearing the brunt by people who have wealth and resources and leave us struggling. >> reporter: and they're getting that support. >> i want everybody who's watching this today to know one thing, dominion is a corporate bully. >> reporter: nathan grayson is a descendant of freed slave, fifth generation resident of this home on carver road in gainesville. many residents here are elderly descendants of freed slaves who bought properties in the 18 hundreds. >> this is their existence, this is their foundation. >> reporter: grayson is now concerned about how his home, his community and his family legacy will be effected by dominion energy plants to build high voltage one hundred foot powerlines here on the property.

it's to serve a new data center known by a historical black neighborhood that's been here since the 18 hundreds. >> residents say there is an alternative to where they would not have to build here along carver road, but they say it's not being seriously considered because it would cost more money. >> and what's your biggest concern about this project. >> well, if they put all those lines and things that's not good for our health. >> dominion energy spokesman said chuck penn says residents have it wrong. >> we're not in the business of displacing people. >> is that saying no one will lose their home. >> that's saying that no one will lose their homes. >> this herndon, darcy spencer, news 4. chris lawrence here at the live desk where we've just learned that detectives now have a lead on the people who went on a paint ball shooting spree in southeast dc. take a look. we just got our hands on these photos. this is what dc police are

looking for. a silver or tan ford but can't make out the license plate and here is the damage that it did. this car was apparently going through neighborhoods in southeast dc around 11:00 in the morning on tuesday, shooting at electricians, construction workers, one man was cutting his neighbor's lawn, even a woman working a hot dog stand. some of the victims say, those paint balls, they stung, they hurt and police have been looking for the people who did it, again, now they have these two cars one car, i should say, they're starting to identify who owns it and if it's related to this shooting spree. live desk, krins lawrenchris la 4. other top stories, chit poet lay is -- chipotle is not serving dinner tonight. several customers became sick over the weekend. some of them went to the hospital with stomach cramps. sickness has been reported by

people who ate at the location in er video could help track down two more men wanted for opening fire near children, playing in northeast dc last week. mpd already arrested one guy. he's charged with assault with a deadly weapon. the police chief says he doesn't care who fired the shot that hit a one-year-old boy, he said, all three men are equally responsible. >> the republican planned to repeal and replace the affordable care act has hit another snag. three gop senators say they will not support their party's plan to repeal the existing plan at least not without a replacement plan ready to go. senate majority leader went to the senate floor and said a key vote on whether to proceed will happen early next week, which could be a risky tactic. because as of this moment, he does not have the vote to pass it. >> fairfax county residents are showing their support for middle school principal arrested for assault. terrence yarboroug was the principal in alexandria. in april he was accused of

slapping a girl on theac something up in the school cafeteria. police charged yarborough last week by investigation by protective services and the school system. he resigned from his job in may. but residents created this online petition to show this support and he said he turned the school around. his first court appearance will be next month. a former congressional staffer accused of taking nude pictures off of his boss's cell phone and then posting them online has pleaded not guilty. that man is juan mccollum. in 2015 he was featured on the hills 50 most beautiful people list and reality tv show on vh 1 called i love new york in 2007. they charged him with cyber stalking this woman. he is also barred from using facebook and other social media sites. faith leaders from across the nation dell kated this

it vending machines in their city. >> in news for your health, a reason to see your doctor if you're not sleeping well, three new studies link sleep apnea and alzheimer's disease. it's the first long term research tying the conditions together. researchers at wheaten college found bio mark associated dementia with higher than sleep who interrupted because they stop breathing. the theory is when you sleep, the brain cleans out known to alzheimer's, when they don't sleep well, it gives them a better chance of developing the disease. >> well, how do you shutdown a river? how about closing parts of the patomic when president trump plays at his golf course. how growing criticism from the public. >> after last-minute intervention by the president, all-girl robotics team from

afghanistan puts their talent to te test, ashey compete by now the world has heard about the six girls from afghanistan, finally, able to come to the u.s. to compete in an international robotics conference here. these young women that faced obstacles every step of the way, yet they never lost hope. we caught up with them yesterday where they mingled with teenagers from all over the world at the first global challenge in dc. the youngest is 14 years old, the oldest, only 16.

these girls from afghanistan putting together a robot was only one of the challenges they face. >> they did it two times. >> these young women who live in the western city of iraq in afghanistan traveled 500 miles just to apply for their visas. but even after they were denied they continued to work might inspire other students in their country and around the world. after president trump intervened the girls left cobble arriving at dulles more than 20 hours later. >> this is what those girls from afghanistan have worked so hard to be part of. it's an international robotics competition, teams from more than 160 countries are competing here at constitution hall in dc. they all start out with the same box of carts. they all have to build a robot to perform a specific task and, as you can hear, the competition is fierce.

>> three of the girls watched nervously from the risers. the contestants partnered with other teams to foster a global spirit. these young women say they're learning a lot from the other teams at the conference and that they hope to teach the world something about afghanistan. >> i wanted to show that afghan can make it. >> afghanistan has a complicated history with its women. under the taliban, girls were forbidden to attend school under penalty of death. even after girls were allowed back to school in 2002, challenges remain because it deeply engrained customs. these brave girls have over come obstacles many of us can't even imagine, because being part of this is that important to them. will they win? they already have, just by being here.

>> closing ceremony is going on ri that the girls from afghanistan won the silver award for courageous achievement with latitude with challenging different circumstances. we hope you'll stay tuned to andrea mitchell, will have more tonight on nbc nightly news. but those girls are very inspiring. >> when you consider, they had less time to work on their robot and put it together and everybody else did and they did this as well, it's phenomenal. >> they're learning how to do, you know, the concept, you know, they haven't been able to go to school for very long. the concept of robotics and engineering and all of that, they're determined to move ahead. >> that's awesome. >> good stuff. >> all right, now, an update to a story that we told you about yesterday. it's been generating a lot of buzz and outrage. the coast guard says it's looking at some new ways to notify people when it closes off part of the patomic river. the safety closure goes into effect when the president is playing at his golf course in northern virginia or doing any

big events there at the kayakers and boaters through a radio system but many say they don't use that there on the river. spokesperson now tells news 4 they're looking at other options like sends out press release. the notices will typically happen a day in advance. >> seems like a shame to keep all those kids off the river, doesn't it? >> especially at times like this. >> hot days like. >> that's the place to be. >> you want to go to the water for sure, that's what we'll be dealing with over the next couple of days. it's hot, hot, more hot, coming up. out there right now, yeah, it's been on the hot side. we've seen cooling weather as a result of rain showers that came across much of the region. now that most of the shower activity is out of the area, moving its way down towards the southwest, you can see i'm talking about the southwestern zones now seeing some of the storms. let's say you're heading outside to dinner, you'll head to the storm real quick, all the rain is out of there.

you will not need the umbrella. back to the west, we'veee back to the west, just to the south of blue mont, seeing that storm now, again, farther to the south and west, look's what's happening around culpepper county, seeing some storms here you may not want to send the kids out here if you're out in this area. we do have some pretty big storms. they are not moving a whole lot. we could see localized flooding, especially around parts of page county, more of those hilly areas. this has all been what's going on mid-atlantic. tomorrow we don't see as many storms. we see a couple, we're not going to see all that many. look at that piece of sunshine there. 83 degrees, winds out of the north, brought down because of the winds brought down because of the rain we did see. now, the next couple of days here is the feels like forecast. this is not good. it's just not good. 103 degrees on your wednesday. going up to 106. 108 on thursday and friday. and then 110, possible, on
