one person shot in a road rage incident, according to police in alexandria. i'm erika gonzalez, a live report from the scene. and early morning home invasion turns into a shooting investigation. >> we're gathering the very latest from the scene. justin finch has a live report. and if you look outside, you'd never know it feels like almost 100 degrees. coming up, i'll show you which days we're going to have a weather alert this week and how hot it's going to be into your weekend. that breaking news, a shooting on a busy road in alexandria, virginia.

>> erika is live on the scene with what's going on. >> reporter: police are investigating this as a road rage incident, if you can imagine that. somebody so upset they pulled out a gun and shot somebody. as you mentioned, we are on eisenhower avenue. this is so close to this restaurant depot. two vehicles involved. as we zoom in here on the scene where you can still see investigators back there by that dark-colored older model suv with those two doors open, that front passenger right side door and that window, you can see completely blown out. two people riding in that vehicle, the driver, a woman, taken to the hospital with some very serious injuries. she was the person that was shot but we're told she is in stable condition. the male passenger, unharmed in this. we just heard from police a short while ago. take a listen to what they had to say. >> our thoughts go out to the victim in this incident. and we appreciate the support of the witnesses who stayed

help. in addition -- >> reporter: now, police had told us that the suspect in this case took off from the scene, so we can't even give you a vehicle lookout, tags, anything like that. we can tell you that fairfax police had their chopper over the scene. as you can see, we've been held back pretty much a good fair distance. it's likely that the businesses that are over there may have had somebody here, neighbors, that you heard police that stayed and assisted with this scene. julie carrey is here working the scene as well and we hope to get you a few more details when we see you next coming up later this afternoon on news4 at 4:00. so just to reiterate, a suspect, that vehicle, nowhere to be seen, and police do not even believe that that is still even in the vicinity of alexandria. we're live on the scene, back over to you guys in the studio. >> all right, ekrika, thanks so much. we have an update on a story we brought you thi

condition right now. news4's justin finch is live at that scene on addison road. just justin. >> reporter: pat, good morning. prince george's county police left the scene some hours ago, taking with them several bags of evidence, the accounts of multiple witnesses. what they're trying to do right now is sort out who's who in this case, and what role, if any, the male victim may have played in this reported attempted robbery and home invasion. just beyond broken crime scene tape, the remnants of an investigation. investigators snapping photos, searching inside this addison road south townhouse where police say a shooting unfolded overnight in what was a home invasion and attempted robbery. >> the robbery was not successful, so they were not able to get away with any goods. >> reporter: about 12:30, wednesday morning, police were on scene, finding a man shot several times. >> one man who was suffering from gunshot

taken to the hospital. >> it's terrible. my son. that's my man, and he's done. he up there fighting for his life. >> reporter: leroy butts says his 21-year-old son is the shooting victim. >> got gunshot wounds everywhere. everywhere. twice in the neck. once in the face. got a hole in the back of his head. got a hole in his leg, man. i'm tired. >> reporter: this distraught dad is still learning the details of the case. he worries his son may have been in questionable company when this reported home invasion took place. on scene, police tell us they found a handgun and spoke to people who were in that townhouse when those shots were fired. they're also still looking for at least one other man who ran away from the scene. and it is unclear which direction that second man fled. also not a good description on him yet from the witnesses on scene. detectives still working to get that and more detail about what happened and that

overnight. we are live here in district heights. i'm justin finch, news4. back in to you. >> thank you. we now know it was a teenager who was shot and killed in laurel last night. prince george's county police are still looking for a suspect and they're offering a $25,000 reward in this case. the shooting happened along larchdale and contee roads. we don't know the name of the victim. he was 17 years old. they was the 14th homicide in the county this month. this morning, prince george's county police are still trying to identify one of those 14 victims. detectives spent yesterday knocking on doors in the river dale heights neighborhood. a man's body was found in the road on 60th avenue sunday morning. police don't know his name but released a sketch. they say he's hispanic, between 35 and 40 years old, with no tattoos. police are offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to an arrest and indictmen

give parents the tools they need to better recognize sex abuse and prevent it from happening to their children. two weeks ago, carlos bell was arrested on child pornography charges. he's accused of abusing at least ten boys. the group, women of action charles county, wanted to bring the community together to grieve and learn from the alleged abuse. last night, the group and a local pediatrician gave advice to concerned parents. >> other people don't get to see or touch their personal parts. that's some things that are normally covered with clothing in our daily life. and that's how you can explain it. the parts that are normally covered with clothing are your personal parts. >> the charles county school system has instituted a number of policies in the wake of this scandal. it includes new training for teachers and administrators to better handle sex abuse allegations. about an hourro

at the white house. they're going to have lunch with president trump to try to plot the next steps in health care. this comes ahead of a key vote to repeal the affordable care act, which is already facing an uphill climb. nbc's chris pollone has the latest. >> reporter: with senate republicans unable to agree on a plan to replace the nation's health care law, president donald trump has another idea. >> let obamacare fail. testimony it will be a lot easier and i think we're probably in that position where we'll just let obamacare fail. >> reporter: a disconcerting idea for the 12 million americans who buy their health insurance on those inindividual markets. experts say if the administration cuts off obamacare subsidies, it would drive up prices and cause the exchanges to collapse. >> you can't force insurers to be more generous than they ever have been without giving them something back. you've got to give them money, more customers. that's exactly what the affordable care act does. >> reporter: now, 11 dpogoverns,

this man released into free society. the petition was created by debra tate, sister of actress sharon tate, who was murdered in 1969 by members of the manson family. among those signing the petition, ron goldman's sister, kim, who tweeted, thank you for being such an advocate and for starting this petition. tate says the goldman family is preparing for the worst. >> if it doesn't fit, you must acquit. >> reporter: during a criminal trial that riveted the nation in 1995, simpson was acquitted of murdering goldman and ex-wife nicole brown but in the civil case he was found liable and ordered to pay a $33 million judgment. >> money is justice, and justice is money, and this is the only way they can seek some type of recompense for the loss. >> reporter: the goldman family's attorney says with interest, simpson now owes about $60 million and if he's released, they'll try get what they can. >> if he's paid money for the use of his name, his likeness,

intention to seize it. and we can seize it by legal process, and that's what i intend to do. >> reporter: but first, the board must grant simpson's parole. among those hoping for his release, carl douglas, one of the attorneys on his legal dream team. >> the fact that he has been in jail for nine years is not because of the crime in las vegas. but it is a consequence of what happened in los angeles. >> now if simpson is released, friends say he wants to move the florida. the parole board often holds a hearing and then releases its decision about three weeks later. however, because there's so much attention being paid to this case, the decision will come down on the same day. the 2014 malaysian airlines flight that disappeared on its way to china was never found, but the search did create detailed sea floor maps that might help researchers. the maps could aid in the knowledge of rich fisheries and the

earth's southern continents. >> very cool. well, today, we will find out whether self-driving cars will share the road with you on your commute. virginia's transportation board is expected to approve a deal that would allow new testing to move forward on the 95 and 495 express lanes. our partners at wtop report the three-year deal would focus on whether self-driving cars can successfully run in the same lanes as regular traffic. some tests would require express lanes to close and vdot would have the right to set the testing schedule. those automated speed cameras you see are popping up everywhere. >> and you may have been hit with a hefty fine. aaa is out with new numbers this morning. more than 2 million tickets were issued last year in maryland and d.c. combined because of those cameras. four out of nine speed camera tickets were issued in the district. the city raked in $100 million in revenue. aaa says that's the largest number of tickets and the most

be safe. for the first time ever, the fbi is warning parents about smart toys that can put your family's privacy at risk. nbc's jolene kent shows us what to watch out for. >> i promise not to tell anyone. >> reporter: the coolest smart toys are now coming with a major warning. as more kids' toys are connected to the internet. >> i know annie also likes tickle time. >> reporter: concern is growing that they could be a new risk to your child's safety. it's prompted the fbi to issue a rare public safety announcement to parents this week, stating the fbi encourages consumers to consider cyber cusecurity prioro introducing smart, interactive internet-connected toys into their homes or trusted environments. the agency points out that the innocent conversations your child may have could reveal a large amount of personal information like name, school, location, likes and dislikes,

physical safety. how? smart toys are often fitted with microphones, cameras, data storage, speech recognition and gps capabilities and toys connected to apps sometimes ask for a child's photo, which could be used to garner trust from a child and increase the risk of exploitation. in recent months, smart toys like my friend kayla have come under fire for allegedly recording children and connecting to unsecured bluetooth and wi-fi networks. the fbi did not call out any toys by name but advises parents to only connect and use the toys with trusted and secure wi-fi internet access. closely monitor your child's activity with the toys through a toy's app. use strong and unique passwords when creating user accounts, and only provide the bare minimum when filling out registration information. and of course, turn the toys off when not in use. toy time now subject to the same rules of the internet. for today, jolene kent, nbc

>> to, gnocchi, traditionally, it translates to "dumpling" so what americans really know as gnocchi is like that classic potato dumpling, that classic ricotta or even butternut squash but we don't know anything about gnocchi a la r o omana. >> this is your style. >> this is the roman style. i've just adopted it for the restaurant. >> i got you. >> so it's a very simple dough. it's pushed into a pan. we've got a little bit of milk. we've got some semolina, some burt and a little bit of parm and eggs and we mix that all together on the stove top. >> no potatoes. >> no potatoes whatsoever and you mix it on the stove top, so it gets hot, it's pushed into a pan, and then all we do is bake it. >> all right. so there's no rolling of the dough or anything like that. just put it together and push it in the pan. is there a key to make sure it comes out nice like this. >> cook it a

you do is chill it and cut it and reheat it and serve it with wonderful seasonal vegetables. so we have tomatoes, basil vinaigrette. it's a really great summertime, even fall dish. >> and is there any way to make this dish foolproof? it seems pretty simple compared to the way where you have to roll it out and cut off the dumplings. >> the recipe that you have online. >> i'm going to share it. >> it's truly foolproof. it's railroad eavery easy. you can't overcook this. just press it into the pan to get a little bit of color and what you have is something you can save for three to five days in the refrigerator, give it to your kids for a snack. if you're looking at this, this literally just comes right out of the pan. >> you can even freeze it. >> yeah. it's wonderful frozen. and it's got a lot of richness and a lot of kind of -- it's a great vegetarian meal if you t

on. so there's a lot of great stuff that goes into the gnocchi and you can really pair it with anything from a seasonal standpoint. >> what are some of your favorite sauces? >> this is -- we've just paired it with a lovely seasonal roasted peppers, basil vinaigrette and tomatoes. in the fall, you can do it with butternut squash and chick peas and we have it at the red hen in d.c. with marinated mushrooms. and it's very rich and decadent. and it's a great alternative to what people really know as those pillowy dumplings. this is another kind of really rich, fun thing, especially for families, for kids, you can make it ahead of time. really wonderful recipe. >> before you go, i want to talk about rammys and both your restaurants have been nominated. >> we've been very lucky to be

years now so we're up for upscale casual restaurant of the year and then all-purpose, which opened up last year is up for best new restaurant. i still love it. >> any special things that you're talking about this summer for either of those restaurants. >> we're doing a big change for red hen with a lot of the pastas. we have more tomato-focused things but sue key knzucchini, peppers, and they're hang and we're going to use those for sauces in the fall. >> this was delicious. tell us it's the gnocchi. >> a la romana, in the roman style. >> thank you for joining us. we need to check on the forecast once again because we are going to be cooking out there, sheena parveen, in the weather.

maybe do it in the shade or something. right now it's 91 degrees and it feels like 98. you can bet that some areas are going to be feeling over 100 as we go through the afternoon. plenty of sunshine, but take a look at what's going to happen over the next several days. normal high is 89 degrees. now, tomorrow, 97. friday, 98. saturday, 98. when you factor in the humidity, it's going to feel above 100. we're talking about feeling like 105. thursday, friday, potentially saturday we have a weather alert out tomorrow and friday because of the extreme heat, which obviously can be dangerous if you don't hydrate and stay cool. so, we're really stressing that for you. here's your beach forecast. if this is where you're heading to get a little bit of relief from the heat, the beach is going to be a perfect place as well as the pool, of course, but you'll need the sun block, sunburn in about 10 to 15 minutes. friday, 92, dry, saturday, late thunderstorms, most of the day, dry and hot around 90 degrees, sunday looks partly cloudy with afternoon storms, 91 if you're heading to the beach there. inland, we're going to be closer to 100 with our actual temperature but again, the
