also learned montgomery county police are investigating a shooting just a couple of blocks from holy cross hospital. >> yeah, the scene is on befl dear boulevard in a residential neighborhood between georgia avenue and sligo creek. sha mari stone is there with details. shamari? >> reporter: good evening. we were the first on the scene arriving approximately 15 minutes ago. as you can see on this street, you can see there are police cruiseers, 5 to 10 of them all throughout here. there is yellow crime scene tape on the other side, homicide detectives are questioning people on this block of b, lvedere boulevard. here's what we know thus far. police say at 9:51 there was a man who was on this street, all of a sudden shots rang out. he was shot. he was transported to the hospital in serious condition. police have not released his name. they haven't told us how old he is, but right now they are still trying to talk to witnesses and people to

senator mccain had a blood clot removed from above his left eye friday. reaction from our live desk. leon? >> the news is rocking capitol hill tonight and reverberating across the country. here's what we know about mccain's condition. he has an aggressive brain tumor, glioblastoma. he had a blood clot removed from above his left eye last friday. they are reviewing his possible treatment options including a combination of chemotherapy and radiation. and they are not even thinking about a timetable as yet for his return to the senate. now, the kind of tumor that senator mccain has is a malignancy that is more common in older patients and, in fact, it turns out it's the same kind the late senator ted kennedy had before his death in 2009. now, the reaction coming across the country and the political spectrum as well tonight, the man who denied mccain the presidency back in 2008, former presidentac

a woman during an apparent case of road rage in alexandria this morning is spending the night behind bars. ernest stick l turned himself in to state police in frederick county, maryland today. he slowed down on the beltway, a woman driving an suv went around him. then pulled over in front of him and cut him off. witnesses also say that woman and her passenger got out, walked towards stick l's van, challenging him to get out. he fired five to six shots, hitting the woman in the neck and back. she is still in the hospital at this hour. police haven't released her name. >> new tonight, it's happened again. another persona tacked by a raccoon in the same arlington neighborhood. we first told you about the problem on monday. now this morning another incident that forced a man to get rabies shots. news first jacquie vinson spoke to him. she's in fairling ton tonight. jacquie, what's going on? >> reporter: well, dorene, you hear about something like this

a raccoon attack be? you will want to hear greg per sell's description what happened on his front porch this morning. >> i was stepping out onto my porch to put on sun tan lotion spray and was just looking at the bottle of spray and all of a sudden, two raccoons were jumping on my leg and scratching, clawing me. basically i was kind of stunned and saying, what's going on? and they were trying to chew and bite me. i was kind of knocking them off. >> reporter: instead of heading out to play golf, he ended up in an emergency room, his legs covered with claw marks and gouges. he had to begin a series of shots for possible rabies exposure. >> it still was definitely surprising and shocking and sort of, you know, jarring. >> reporter: it's at least the third raccoon attack in fairling ton.

money, while a lawsuit by neighbors opposing the purple line goes forward. prince georges county baker said he wants construction to get moving right away. the purple line would connect new carrollton to bethesda. >> prince georges county police are giving new real time updates on their officers' 12 hour shifts tonight. the department is tweeting pictures from roll call. a hit and run bust, and arrests. all of this showcasing the longer shifts that were put into place to combat a spike in homicides in the county, there have been 14 already this month. just this month in the county, 17-year-old dustin cory was the latest victim. cory's father says he was looking forward to his senior year in high school in the fall. but he was shot and killed while inside a car on lar much dale road in laurel last night. they talked to his father on face time. >> he was devastated. his mom is devastated. he h

older sister. we're all just shocked, out of control. and these kids just don't seem to have value for life. >> police say cory was shot during an illegal transaction and the crime was not random. authorities tell us most of the homicides this month have involved criminal activity. arrests have been made in four of those cases. >> a police officer in baltimore is under investigation for allegedly planting drugs, and it was caught on his police body camera. the baltimore public defenders office released the video here from a january drug arrest. it shows officer richard panero turning on his body cam and finding the can filled with drugs in an empty lot. but the camera saves 30 seconds of video before it's activated. and that 30 seconds appears to show panero hiding the same can where those drugs were found. baltimore police suspended panero and put two other officers on administrative duty.

set free. nbc's joe friar has the story. >> reporter: the spot lights are now firmly fixed on a prison in rural windswept nevada in a nondescript parole board office 130 miles away. two places that tomorrow will be linked by video conference for what some are calling the parole hearing of the century. the prison is where o.j. simpson has been locked up for nine years, mopping gym floors coaching softball teams hoping for parole. even the prosecutor thinks he'll get out. >> he has spent nine years in prison on a robbery charge which is a pretty significant stay in nevada state prison. this was his first conviction and so it's likely that they will parole him. >> reporter: simpson is serving time for an armed confrontation with two sports memorabilia dealers for the parole commissioners at the hearing, one of the most important factors will be a risk assessment. it's a score card that looks at things like age at first arrest, employment history prior to arrest,

conduct over the past year. in his last hearing in 2013, simpson was deemed low risk and granted parole on some charges. >> i'm sure the powers here know i advise a lot of guys and i like to feel that i kept a lot of trouble from happening since i've been here. >> reporter: the parole board is not supposed to consider simpson's criminal trial in 1995 when he was acquitted of murdering nicole and goldman. they are anxious about the possibility of his release. >> i remember what it was like before he was incarcerated where my nerves were at high alert because i never knew where he was going to pop up. >> that was joe friar reporting. nbc 4 is place to be where word comes tomorrow. watch for nbc news special report here. the hearing expected to begin around 1:00. vets say it is extremely important for dog owners to

sure their pets get vaccinated against the dog flu this year that is currently spreading all over the country. there are reports that two dogs died from the flu in north carolina just last month. a new vaccine helps prevent two types of canine influenza. vets tell us dogs can get the flu from coming into contact with other dogs at kennels, doggy day care, and dog parks, too. you should also know dogs can get the flu from eating or drinking out of the same bowl. >> it's a rather contagious virus that a lot of dogs are susceptible to and symptoms can become quite -- their dogs becoming quite sick and they even can some cases be fatal if it's severe enough. >> that's two weeks after the initial flu shot, dogs will need a booster, then a vaccination every year. >> you know already that dwi and dui, but have you heard about duie? those letters now spell trouble for some potential distracted drivers in the state of
