woman during an apparent case of road rage. he turned himself into state police yesterday in frederick county, maryland. >> a white male suspect, 50 years of age wearing a black polo shirt. >> this unfolded yesterday morning on the eisenhower connector off the beltway. >>. he slowed down in his white van. a woman went around him and pulled over in front of him and cut him off. the woman and her passenger then got out of their car, walked over to his van and challenged him to get out. he fired five to six shots and drove off. the woman was hit twice and is still in the hospital. >> you were probably affected by this crash. a motorcyclist was killed last night near powder mill road. you see the motorcycle in the street there. the windshield in a dark-colored sedan as well. maryland

handling this. the victim's name has not been released. it's likely to be a somber day on capitol hill as the colleagues of senator john mccain are grappling with the news that he has a brain tumor. this is days after we learned that doctors removed a blood clot from above mccain's left eye. >> the reaction has been coming in throughout the night. some of his closest friends in the senate offered support but sounded upbeat that mccain can beat this. >> god knows how this ends, not me. but i do know this. this disease has never had a more worthy opponent. >> certainly, john is a friend of everybody here. we hope for the best for him. >> if anybody can beat this, john mccain is the man. >> mccain's doctors say the senator and his family are currently reviewing treatment options. each one has its own challenges. doreen gentzler has more on the diagnosis and the potential next steps. >> aaron and eun, senator j

senator has been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor known as a glioblastoma. thi they start in the brain and are rare and more aggressive. this is what his office says he has. glioblastoma, sadly, are the most aggressive type of brain tumor. with this diagnosis, his treatment is likely to include radiation and chemotherapy. he will soon be 81 years old and it is likely that the treatment would begin with radiation. his doctors say he's recovering very well from the surgery that he's had and also that his underlying health is excellent. that could certainly work in his favor and eun and aaron, we know that john mccain is quite a fighter. >> that is the word, fighter and tough. those are words a lot of people from both sides of the aisle use to describe senator

tweets of support. president trump and former presidents put politics aside to wish the long-time senator well. we also heard from his family, his daughter megan and his wife cindy posted tributes to him on their social media pages. two police officers injured during a training exercise in los angeles. you had fire crews responding to reports of an explosion and an area called south gate. the officers were told had burns to their face and their bodies. while they had canines with them, the dogs were not hurt. this is being called an industrial accident. while he wouldn't go into detail, police say whatever happened was not part of that training exercise. back over to you guys. >> erika, thank you. it is 4:33. new allegations of grade tampering will likely be front and center for one much our a a area's biggest districts. it is an open

this was scheduled before news broke that governor larry hogan wanted a full investigation of the allegations that grades were changed to boost graduation rates. maxwell says the claims are not true. the purple line project in maryland seems to be back on track. paves the way for maryland to secure federal funds for the projects. however, a lawsuit opposing it will still move forward. the state is looking for $900 million in federal grants to build that 16-mile light rail line between montgomery and prince george's counties. state officials say they could start construction within a few weeks of receiving a commitment on the funding. now to northern virginia where a second person is recovering after being attacked by a raccoon. this is the third attack in the village of arlington this year. residents think they're drawn to bags of trash on the sidewalks for pickup. the man who was attacked yesterday said he was just

4:41 right now. it's taken 41 years, but a minnesota woman finally knows what happened to her 16-year-old brother. >> illinois police say james hack en son was murdered by serial killer john wayne gacy. the teenager went missing in 1976 one month after moving to chicago. gacy was a contractor in chicago at the time. during the 1970s he murdered homeless male prostitutes and suburban teenagers. his mother believed gacy killed her son but had no way to prove it. several weeks ago investigators tracked down the family and matched their dna to one of the bodies found in gacy's home 39 years ago. >> it's just awful that this is the way he died. you know, he didn't have a chance. that awful man took his life away and he didn't have a chance to do all the fun things that you do in .

>> a name will now be added to the grave where he is buried out of gacy's 33 victims, six remain unidentified. this body camera video is at the center of another baltimore police investigation. the video shows one officer apparently planting drug evidence in a case that was ultimately dismissed. the video was discovered by the public defender's office as it was preparing for a case. the office turned it over to internal affairs. it shows them putting down evidence. turned on his own body camera and then says let's check the alley. the officer who has been suspended. finds what appears to be the same bag of drugs. baltimore city has one of the largest body camera -- it was launched after freddie gray's death. 4:42 now. a uniformed officer says he was refused service at a virginia mcdonald's. the richmond times dispatch reports it happened earlier

and the crime was not random. authorities tell us that most of the homicide victims this month involve criminal activity. so far, arrests have been made in four cases. we're learning about what led to shooting that left a toddler injured. according to wtop, there was an argument over a game. it happened in northwest d.c. witnesses tell investigators that two men were playing the game. they were surrounded by kids and neighbors. police arrested derrick watson on tuesday. police are searching for this man. there is a reward for his arrest. the one-year-old little boy who was hit is recovering. already raging for several days, a northern -- excuse me. a northern california fire doubles in size. 48,000 acres burned. just 7% containment here. so far, more than 2 dozen homes destroyed and 1500 structures
