overnight an outpouring of support from both sides of the aisle. president trump offering his thoughts and prayers. president obama, mccain's 2008 rival, tweeting, cancer doesn't know what it's up against. go i have it hell, john. while mccain recovers at home in arizona the mayo clinic says he and his family are reviewing treatment options. doctors have diagnosed mccain's brain tumor as glioblastoma an aggressive form of cancer, but mccain has beat cancer before, overcovering several bouts of melano melanoma. from his daughter megan an emotional letter that reads, it won't surprise you to learn that in all of this the one of usj[ko is most confident and calm is my father. cancer may a flikt him in many ways but it will not make him surrender, nothing ever has. mccain añr former navy pilot survived five and a half years as a prisoner of war in vietnam.

it was his friend lindsey graham who broke the news to colleagues. he spoke for five minutes largely about the diagnoses before the conversation turned to other issues like health care reform. mccain's message to the other senators, get back to work. peter, savannah. >> thank you very much. let's bring in medical correspondent dr. john torres. good to see you this morning. glioblastoma. we heard terms like aggressive and malignant. i know you're not treating senator mccain but generally speaking what kind of prognosis do you expect. >> unfortunately not that good. once diagnosed, live 14 months, five year survival rate around 10%, not very good either. one thing about this tumor, brain cancer, very aggressive, malignant and a survival rate. >> mayo clinic's statement said they believed they had gotten the tumor. it sounded like they had gotten most of it. >> if yo

statement they said they got the tumor they could see. there's parts they can't say, microscopic parts, if those are left behind, which unfortunately they are, they are hard to get, they start growing. it's an aggressive tumor,ette comes back, very hard to treat. >> senator mccain a history of melanoma. could there be connection between melanoma and glioblastoma. >> there are some thoughts they are connected. more likely two types of cancer especially for somebody at his age who had cancer before. >> what kind of treatments are there. he said the plan is to fighting it as aggressively as possible. >> he went through stage one, which is the surgery to remove as much as you can. the next part is radiation and chemotherapy on top of that. the problem is radiation and chemotherapy could take a toll on his health. he is 80 years old. there might be radiation, chemo, it just depends. >> going back and looki

and recuse himself from the russia investigation. >> how do you take a job and recuse himself. if he would have recused himself before the job i would say, thanks, jeff but i'm not going to take you. >> also sharp words for special counsel robert mueller warning him about looking into any trump family finances unrelated to that investigation. and take a look at this frightening scene in nepal. a 14-year-old girl crossing the roadway. she suddenly disappears, falls into the drain. a woman recorded the incident. you can hear her screaming from moments later the girl emerges from an underground sewer about 30 yards away. a bystander is there to pluck her out of that rushing water. amazingly that story ends well, she's okay, officials have since ordered that all the drains be covered. that is a miracle right there. we mentioned it's a busy news day. o.j. simpson's closely watched

hours away. he's 70 years old, served almost nine years for an armed robbery in vegas and is asking for officials to release him in october. chris darden served as one of the prosecutors during simpson's double murder trial back in 1995, he broke a book about that experience it's called "in contempt." good to he soo you again. >> good morning. >> o.j. back in the headlines. put your lawyer hat on, do you think he will be granted parole and take your lawyer hat off, how does that sit with you? >> i imagine he will be granted parole unfortunately. you know -- you know, what can we say? you know, he is not in jail for murder, he is in jail for robbery. it's an amazing thing that you can get a 33-year sentence and only two nine years. i mean, that's just incredible to me. you do 25%, 22% of your sentence in the state of nevada releases you. >> when you think about him walking around as a freeman, the potential of that, how does that hit you?

>> i think that if you really want to see the real o.j. you look back at the video footage of o.j. leaving that hotel that night after robbing these people, after, you know, lining people up against a wall while a guy behind him stands there with a pistol pointed at them. you look at his demeanor leaving that day, he's happy, he's jovial. that's how he really feels about this robbery. now, today he says i wish i could take it back, et cetera. well, yeah, he does because he got caught and he got nine years. >> they do say he is a model prisoner. would you agree with that? >> the fact that he's a model prisoner doesn't mean he is a model citizen and the fact that he's a model prisoner doesn't mean that he doesn't pose a risk to the public. >> i don't know if you've seen excerpts of his parole hearing a few years ago and he talked about what he has done in prison and he talked about some of the things he has learned. when you watch that did you think this is a man who has been humbled or chase nd or who has changed? >> no, i thought he was the same old guy i met in 1994 and 195,

narcissist. i think that he was saying what he needed to say and is doing what he needs to do to get out of prison. i heard that he leads the bible study class or something to that effect. that's not the o.j. simpson i know. >> do you believe, chris, and i will just ask you bluntly, that o.j. simpson is a danger to the public if he's out walking the streets? >> well, i don't know. one of the things the parole board will have to review are his psychiatric records. i'm assuming that he received some psychiatric treatment, some therapy of some kind. i would think if he received therapy or psychiatric help that then they should have addressed the issue of the murders. >> if you are on the parole board what's the one question that you would want to ask o.j.? >> did you kill ron and nicolle. >> that's not legally relevant. >> that's the one question i would like to ask. that's the one question everybody would like to ask. everybody ought to call up the nevada parole board and tell them ask him. if you are really reformed and

and you better get plenty of rest because you will be worked really hard. so it was a huge shock. in terms of the character stuff of kermit having become stale or bitter, it isn't true in my mind, but the funny part of that is i would have expected the people saying that to have been my staurchlest allies. >> were you personally difficult to work with because that's really the criticism. you offered notes and were hard to work with frankly. >> i offered notes. i don't think that makes someone difficult. it was a totally an idea of trying to do what's best for the muppets in terms of receiving ideas and concepts that were well out of the bounds of the character. >> cheryl pointed out that you are not kermit, you are simply somebody who plays the role of kermit. >> it's really interesting about that because in my mind my mentoring with jim tells me that the minute the muppets are reduced to being roles that are auditioned for and cast it takes
