and we are looking at a heat advisory through the area for today, temperatures already in the 90s, but feeling around 100 degrees, wait until you see what we can expect this afternoon and into the weekend. right now, six teenagers are missing. they are from burundi and were in washington competing in an international robotics competition. in just a few minutes, a report of a sighting of at least two of these teens. and you are going to be able to watch it live an tv, we're going to tell you what clues to look for in o.j. simpson's parole hearing this afternoon. those clues could help predict his future.

. good morning, even. thanks for joining us. i'm erika gonzalez. >> and i'm aaron gilchrist. we begin this morning with the weather, of course. no surprise when we say it is hot but it is a dangerous type of heat. >> we are expecting the heat indexes to be over 100 degrees for the next three to four days. storm team4 meteorologist sheena parveen is here with the importance of staying weather aware. >> feels like 99 degrees. actual temperature is 92 degrees so we're already feeling close to 100, dangerous heat like you mentioned as we go through the afternoon. right now it feels like 100s in quantico, annapolis, 101, rest of the area mid to upper 90s. we have a heat advisory until 7:00 p.m. for everybody, and that means we expect it to feel around 105 degrees this afternoon. so, some heat tips for you. stay hydrated. that is the main thing here. check on the elderly

neighbors. avoid long hours outdoors in this heat. we do not have much in the way of rain relief today or tomorrow. never leave children or pets in the car. the car heats up much quicker than you will be heating up outside in the sunshine. coming up, we'll take a look at how long the heat's going to last and our weekend forecast and chance of storms. you probably just got an nbc alert on your phone. this is a developing story right now. a team of teenagers, computer science all stars missing. they're from burundi, africa. they were here for a robotics competition in d.c. they disappeared not long after it ended tuesday night and we've got breaking details. >> news4's justin finch outside the embassy with that breaking news. justin, bring us up to speed. >> reporter: aaron, erika, good morning. as we come on to the air here, a confirmed sighting of two of those missing students identified as don and audrey. they were seen crossing the u.s.

here from burundi a short time ago. they tell us they had no idea the team was even in town until they were reported missing. they also add they had no obligation to check in with them when they arrived here earlier this week. let's show you that team from burundi. their photos on your screen here. that is don, age 16, since seen entering canada from the u.s. arastid, audrey, age 17, also seen entering canada. nice, age 17, richard, age 18, and kevin, age 17. now, their chaperon did report them missing yesterday. they were all last seen on the 1700 block of d street northwest tuesday evening at dar constitution hall. they were among 100-plus teams gathered for closing ceremonies of the first global robotics tournament which welcomes team competitors from around the world.

visas. we also reached out to organizers of first global. they sent us a statement reading, in part, that the security of the students is one of paramount importance to first global. first global president and former congressman joe sestak made the initial call to the police and proper follow on reports have been submitted to the police who are now investigating the case. we can tell you, having spoken with embassy officials this morning, they expect to be in touch with their counterparts in burundi. that chaperon they also tell us is due to fly back to burundi at some point today. police tell us they don't believe at this time this case is in any way a foul play operation here and they continue to work with their federal partners to uncover more details about where those teenagers may have gone. we have another look at those teens and the details of this story on our nbc washington app. for now, we are live here in northwest. i'm justin finch, news4. back in to you. this

up in live power lines when it crashed this morning. you can see that here. the driver here we know died. prince george's county police didn't say what led up to this cash. they did say the truck struck a pole and overturned. this happened on white house road in upper marlboro. the road is still closed in both directions at this hour and it could stay that way for some time. this morning, montgomery county police are searching for a murder suspect, a man was shot inside a home on belvedere boulevard in the forest glen section of silver spring last night. montgomery county police say someone inside that home called 911 just before 10:00 p.m. the caller said a gunman came into the house, shot a man, and ran off. the man died at the hospital. a couple of hours from now, we'll know if o.j. simpson is getting out of prison. his parole hearing is at 1:00 today. nbc's jay gray has a preview of what we can expect in las vegas. >> my intent was not to rob from anybody. >> reporter: in just hours, o.j. simpson will sit down before the nevada state parole board to ask foris

er nest stickell turned himself in yesterday. >> a white male suspect, 50 years of age, wearing a black polo shirt. >> this all unfolded yesterday morning on the eisenhower connecter just off the beltway in alexandria. witnesses say they saw stickell slow down in his white van. a woman driving an suv wednesday around and him and then pulled over in front and cut him off. the woman and her passenger then got out of their car, walked over to stooickell's van and challenged him to get out. stickell fired five to six shots and then drove off. the woman was hit twice and is still in the hospital. right now, you can follow along with prince george's county police on patrol. they are live tweeting updates during their 12-hour shifts. the department moved to extra patrols after a spike in homicides this month. police were investigating 14 homicides in the county. 17-year-old dustin cory was the st

looking forward to his senior year in high school in the fall. the teen was shot and killed while inside a call on larchdale road wednesday night. we spoke to his father via face time. >> totally devastated. his mom's devastated. he has an older brother and a younger sister. we're all just shocked. out of control, and these kids just don't seem to have value for life. >> police say he was shot during an illegal transaction and that the crime was not random. authorities tell us most of the homicides this month involved criminal activity. so far, arrests have been made in four cases. we are learning about what led to this shooting that left a 1-year-old injured, according to our news partners at wtop, court documents show there was an argument over a craps game. the shooting happened july 10 in northeast d.c. witnesses tell investigators that two men were playing the game. they were surrounded by kids and neighbors. police arrested derek watson on es

biggest school districts. today, prince george's county school ceo kevin maxwell is meeting with the county delegation for the maryland house of representatives. it is an open meeting at prince george's community college. now this was scheduled before news broke that governor larry hogan wanted a full investigation of the allegations that grades were changed to boost graduation rates. maxwell says the claims are not true. it looks like the purple line project in maryland seems to be back on track. a new federal appeals court ruling now paves the way for the state to secure federal funds for the project. however, a lawsuit opposing it will still move forward as well. the state is looking for $900 million in federal grants to build the 16-mile light rail line between montgomery and prince george's counties. state officials say they could start construction within a few weeks of receiving a commitment on that funding. now to northern virginia where a second person is recovering after being attacked by a raccoon.

raccoon attack in the neighborhood, in arlington, the third one this year. residents think the raccoons are drawn to bags of trash on the sidewalks for pickup. the man who was attacked yesterday says he was just on his front porch when this happened. >> so i was stepping out on to my porch to put on suntan lotion spray, and was just looking at the bottle of spray, and all of a sudden, raccoons were -- two of them were chomping on my leg and scratching and clawing me. >> now, mr. purcell has started a series of shots for possible rabies exposure. we're told arlington animal control did not find the raccoons. the neighborhood association is going to review the idea of having trash cans as opposed to just putting out trash bags in that neighborhood. >> they look so cute and harmless, but -- >> trash pandas somebody called them on twitter. >> all right. this morning, there is a warning for dog owners. cases of dog flu are on the

extra careful the next time that you take your dog to the park or if you board them while you're on vacation. news4's chris gordon has more on this highly contagious virus. >> reporter: dog flu symptoms start with a wet cough. the flu causes dogs to become lethargic and lose their appetite. carmelo is a 2-year-old pit bull mix. his vet says it is extremely important for dog owners to make sure their pets get vaccinated against the dog flu that's currently spreading. there are reports that two dogs died from the flu in north carolina just last month. >> it's a rather contagious virus that a lot of dogs are susceptible to and symptoms can become quite -- their dogs becoming quite sick and they even can, in some cases, be fatal if it's severe enough. >> reporter: this new vaccine helps prevent two types of canine influenza. dogs can get the flu from coming

surrealist painter salvador dali's body will be exhumed today in spain. this is happening because of a paternity case. >> that's right. a woman claims that dali is her father as a result of an affair. dali died back in 1989 and left his estate to the spanish state. the woman says that she is not interested in an inheritance but that she wants to be recognized as a member of the artist's family. well, crews believe they've recovered the body of a man who went missing in flooding in arizona. we told you when this tragedy happened a few days ago, a family was swimming when there was a fla

swept away. nine, including several children, died. one father disappeared in the chaos there and police believe that man is who they found last night. however, they did not officially identify him. new storms are causing these floods in arizona as well. take a look at the rushing water here. this is in the phoenix area. floods knocked down trees and killed power for thousands of people. several roads are still shut down. in some places, the water was as high as eight feet. here in our area, we are dealing with extreme heat because not necessarily what the temperatures are reading but it's what they feel like. >> yes. >> if you're out there for even just a few minutes, it can really kind of take your breath away. >> and it will. the humidity makes all the difference. it could either make it feel incredibly uncomfortable or really comfortable and today we're seeing a lot of heat, a lot of humidity, that's why we have a heat advisory for the entire area now. so we'll be feeling around 105 this afternoon. we already feel aroun

get travel visas during the 90-day period the executive order is in force. a supreme court didn't halt the ruling essentially giving it the green light. the executive order applies to visa applicants from six muslim-majority countries. it also imposes a 120-day ban on refugees from anywhere in the world. well here's a story that's probably all over your social media feeds today. this body camera video is at the center of another baltimore police investigation. video shows one officer apparently planting drug evidence in a case that was ultimately dismissed. that video was discovered by the public defender's office as it was preparing for the case. it turned over the video to internal affairs. the video here showing the officer putting down the drugs as two other officers watch, walking away, turning on his own body camera and then saying, let's check the alley. the officer who has been suspended or later finds what appears to be the same bag of drugs. baltimore city

largest body camera programs in the country. it was launched in 2016 following violent protests over freddie gray's death. a uniformed officer says he was refused service at a virginia mcdonald's. the richmond times dispatch reports the incident happened earlier this week. the game and inland fisheries officer says that he ordered and paid for his food only to have the drive through worker say he wasn't going to kworks edited, receiver the police. another worker eventually gave the officer his food. the franchise owner says the worker went against standards with the comment. we're told that they are taking what's described as appropriate action to resolve this situation. in news for your health now, people tend to think of supplements for the physical boost they can provide, but how about a mental boost. news4's eun yang has results. >> reporter: more and more people are turning to alternative treatments such as nutritional supplements to prevent and treat a range of health es

depression. magnesium is one such supplement that studies are suggesting may offer mental health benefits. joining us now is to discuss how to use magnesium to help with some of this mental health is psychiatrist dr. joshua weiner. so, first of all, what types of mental health benefits can magnesium help with? >> so, magnesium can be helpful for depression, anxiety, and sleep. so, there was a recent study that was published in the last week that looked at using about 240 milligrams of magnesium in the form of magnesium chloride, so people had to take 2,000 milligrams of magnesium chloride to get about 250 milligrams of magnesium, and what they found is that at a clinically significant improvement for people who are trying to address mild to moderate depression. so this is absolutely something that for years now i've been recommending to patients that tod take

i think it's worth considering if you're on the mild range with regard to mood and anxiety problems. certainly i would not recommend this, though, if you're having suicidal ideation or really, really struggling. >> what's a usual use and how do we know that this works. >> we don't exactly know why it works. one of the theories is that the magnesium decreases the production of cortisol, which is the stress hormone and by decreasing cortisol, you're decreasing inflammation and there's more and more evidence coming out that mental health issues are in part do due to an inflammatory response in your body. so, anything that's going to decrease inflammation can have the potential to have a beneficial impact, essentially, on mental health. >> can we get magnesium in our diets or do we have to to take a supplement to get now have make a difference. >> this is interesting. you know, it's found that the average american now is getting about 200 to 300 milligrams less magnesium in the diet compared to decades ago, and the theory behind that is that it ha

depleting the magnesium in the soil. so, yes, you can get this if you eat lots of green leafy vegetables or when you think about fiber, fiber products tend to be high in magnesium, certain nuts, so yes, you can, but the average american is eating about 250 milligrams of magnesium a day, and the recommended amount is more in the 400 to 500 milligram range so oftentimes you are looking at having to take some sort of supplement. >> what about side effects? is there such a thing as too much magnesium and what should we wibe looking out for. >> there's magnesium oxide, chloride, male, tare, the list goes on. the one i tend to recommend is magnesium citrate and i recommend taking roughly 500 milligrams a day of magnesium citrate. you can get diarrhea if you take too much

this weekend, you can see the type of vehicle that could explore the surface of mars. the rover concept vehicle is going on display at the national air and space museum tomorrow and saturday. this is a pretty big deal, because tomorrow is mars day at the museum. the rover is 11 feet tall and it weighs 5,500 pounds. according to the "washington post," it can separate in the middle. the front works as a scout vehicle while the rear works as a laboratory and it runs on an electric motor fueled by solar panels and battery power so for all of you science nerds and weather geeks, this is an opportunity -- >> that means you. >> today is actually the day we put a man on the -- the anniversary of the day we put a man on the moon in 1969. >> it's an appropriate couple of days to be indoors, in a museum is a good idea. that is a great

aaron, back to you. >> erika, thank you. child care takes a huge chunk out of paychecks. we're talking about 20% or more of an annual household income. it's no surprise to those of you with kids, we know. susan hogan breaks down where your money's going and who's paying the most partner that important service. >> reporter: it's an age-old problem. you have kids, you need child care because you work full-time. but the cost can oftentimes be so outrageous it's actually cheaper for one parent to quit their job and stay home. now, care.com conducted a survey with 1 ,000 parents nationwide asking them about their child care spending habits. the results are pretty revealing so let's take a look. 40% of parents say child care costs have caused tension in their relationship. 20% actually admitted to having fewer children because of the cost of child care. 23% went to a part-time schedule or quit their job to stay home to save money. and depending on where you live, it also makes a
