we start with breaking news in maryland. severe weather rips homes apart on the eastern shore, and it may have been a tornado. this morning emergency crews are trying to account for everyone before more storms arrive this afternoon. our temperatures are heating up right now. a beautiful look outside. we're dry, we don't have any storms around the area yet, but a couple are in store for the afternoon. i'll show you the timing and some relief coming up. . the real sound of the dmv. good morning, how are you doing? >> good morning, i was calling in to talk about jim

pour in for our dear friend and colleague jim vance. how how local radio listeners remembered him all this morning. energy "news4 midday" starts now. good morning, everyone. thanks for spending some of your midday with us. >> we want to start with that breaking news, roofs ripped off buildings, home goods dark, power lines down in the middle of the road. >> that's exactly what people in -- justin finch joins us from stevensville. it's very possibly that this was a tornado. we can tell but 1:30 this morning, the brunt of the storm blew through this part of the island. damaged

gas leaks and the like. now at this time neighbors and first responders are getting the extend of the damage out here. ask bay city neighbors which house got hit hardest, chances are they'll send you here. >> that house is just not there anymore. >> reporter: crushed and collapsed, the roof ripped and spun. the elderly man inside was somehow able to escape. >> we found out the man across the street had to crawl out of his house, because it was demolished. everybody was hovered around him taking care of him. >> reporter: he was taken to the hospital with a puncture wound and is expected to recovered. but the home is a total loss. she and her family were clearing debris that seemed to hit on all sides of their home. e, the trail of destruction cut along route 8 just over the bay

later on. later on today, keep your eye to the sky if you're going to be out maybe tess pool. we do have a couple storms in the forecast. we will still be around 90 this afternoon. we are dry for the moment. the heaviest rain up around new england, but as we go through the afternoon, those temperatures rising into the upper 80s, around 90, and then we'll see a couple afternoon thunderstorms. there's relief in the forecast as we go through the week. we'll talk about the timing of the storms and those other temperatures. those are coming up. mr. kushner was it appropriate -- a closed-door meetings is under way between jared kushner and the senate intelligence committee. this morning president trump's son-in-law and senior divorce released a

four contacts with russians during the campaign and transition. kushner says -- i did not colewd. and denies he had any improper contact with russian officials. he goes on to say that he diplomat rely on money from russians to finance his business deals, but as sarah doloff reports -- >> tuesday he will appear before the hughes intelligence committee. >> counsel has said he will only be available for two hours. >> reporter: donald trump and paul manafort agreed to interviews with the staff of the senate judiciary committee, but will not appear at a formal public hearing on wednesday. >> i think they need to be under oath and release all the documents. >> reporter: it cups on the heels of a "the washington post" report saying that president trump inquired about his ability to pardon

ten people. >> reporter: a gruesome discovery, ten dead, and investigators searching for answers. who all is involved in the truck smuggling, and where are the other victims who ran when police were called? >> checking the video from the store there were a number of vehicles that came in and picked up a lot of folks who were in that trailer that survived the trip. >> reporter: a sweltering ride, with temperatures reaching more than 100 degrees. in all 39 people were rescued when a walmart employees called 911 when someone escaped begging for water. >> they were very hot to the touch. they were in there without any signs of water. >> reporter:

the mayor asked the police chief to step down after that shooting, but the community says that's not enough. >> we're not going to be tricked. the former chiefs wasn't doing her job, but the problem institutional. >> reporter: the officers involved in the shooting, they are on administrative leave. we're learning new information about a story we've been following in london. charlie gard's parents have dropped their legal fight to bring him to the u.s. for experimental treatment. his father says it's time to let their son go and, quote, be with the angels. charlie is 11 months old. he has a rare genetic condition and is on life support right now. in court this morning the family's lawyers said new medical tests show the treatment can no longer help him. a dramatic shapeup of president trump's communications operation is having a lot of people wondering howma

to pieces. this morning more than 4,000 people still don't have power. officials are urging residents to stay home because of the downed power lines. i saw that storm come through arlington, but man, nothing like that. >> it sliced the tops off some of these houses, and we were talking about this earlier saying it took less than 20 minutes to rapidly move through. >> it was a fast mover. we went back and looked at the radar velocity, and this storm looks as though it that it had everything capable. so we're going to see later on today the national weather service put out a statement saying they'll know later today whether it was a tornado, but let's look at the radar, because i did back it up. 1:30 in the morning, here is the storm. this is what it looks like on radar, moving from annapolis over the bay into stevensville. you can see the hail was

one inch in diameter, a lot of lightning, have i intense storm. the shape of this storm leads to you believe there was some rotation, so we look for the classic hook shape, and like i mentioned, we also went back and saw rotation there, too. so later on today we'll have an update from the national weather service. either way, a lot of wind damage. right now much, much better conditioning, we are sunrise and dry. later on today, we still have a chance for a couple thunderstorms, the heaviest that moved through, that's up in new england, but for today, it's going to another 90-degree day, afternoon this morning around, 80s return this week, we do have relief from the heat. we go into friday, so we're going to have a pretty good break here. 85 currently in the district. 84 leesburg is coming in. if you're grill today, it's a good day
