details. bipartisan criticism of president trump's decision to ban transgender people from serving in the military. the announcement came in a series of tweets yesterday. the president cites the burden of, quote, tremendous medical costs as the reason. the reversal is putting transgender service members in limbo right now. >> they're concerned about what happens next and whether they can be kicked out of the military altogether. in an interview only on news 4, we spoke to mia mason. for the majority of her 18-year military career, she served as michael. in 2010, she began transitioning to a female. when the military found out, she was discharged. when the ban on transgender service members was lifted in 2015, she was back. now she's afraid of losing it all. secretary of army under president obama doesn't think the new policy will actually go into effect. >> will actually become policy and the prent

in kicking out the patriots. i think there will be a lot of resistance on the military side and the pentagon to the breadth of what he's proposing. >> eric banning is the first openly gay man to serve as secretary of army. he said there's still so much confusion and uncertainty hugh the president's tweets will impact transgender service members. senators could be getting ready to pull an all-nighter and to vote on a series of amendments. it's known as a voter rama. 2 t. would include a repeal of mandates, including the health care law. your child could be attending a school with a new name. it includes changing the name of jeb stuart high school. they will hold a deciding vote finally. the high school was named in honor of a con fed ral general. if the name is changed, it

could be costly. keep an eye on the app for the results of that. breaking news now at 5:05. the inmates who escaped from riker's island in new york city has been found. that escapee was located by two department much corrections staff members on the island before 3:00 a.m. there was concern that 24-year-old hill may have tried to get to laguardia airport across the river from the prison. you can see on the map here that jail is in the middle of several boroughs. the department of corrections says he jumped a fence. he was missing around 7:30 p.m. when the head count was off by one. we're also staying on top of a developing story out of ohio. one man is dead and seven others hurt after a ride malfunctioned on the opening day of the state fair. people were thrown from the fireball spinning ride. officials say that ride was inspected thoroughly before the fair started. now the governor has ordered all rides to be

safety inspections are done. witnesses describing the scene seem to be in shock. >> i saw somebody fall and a minute later the whole row the seats fell to the ground. >> three of the injured are in critical condition this morning. now to northern virginia where police say a woman tried to lure a little girl into her car. they say the suspicious incident happened near the intersection of meade drive and moore place. the woman tried to lure her in by saying her mother was in the hospital. the girl said she biked straight home but the woman followed her for a block or two. they believe the woman is in her 20s and driving a gray or silver four-door sedan. a scary crime on a trail that many of you use to start your day off with exercise, perhaps, a bike ride or

someone shot and killed a man and his dog on the anacostia riverwalk trail. this happened on the east capitol street bridge. >> molette green is live on the trail with more on the search for a suspect that's happening right now. molette? >> reporter: good morning, guys. as you can imagine, if you know anything about this community, you know that this bike trail is an important part of the river terrace rebound. to make the area more livable and inviting. just imagine for those who heard the gunshots yesterday morning, 8:30 in the morning, a half dozen shots. people here are concerned about what happened, what led to a man losing his life, shot dead, along the trail and police believe a dog also found nearby shot and killed belonged to the victim. a lot of bikers use this trail every single day. >> i mean, this is a

her kids and grandkids thanks to the kindness of strangers. chopper 4 got this video arriving at the airport. she was stuck at an alaska hospital for two months after suffering a medical emergency on vacation. ♪ last night at grace point community church of the nazarene, the congregation celebrated nancy's homecoming. she was not well enough to fly commercial and they couldn't afford a private plane. an article in an alaska newspaper changed that, though. it produced an outpouring of donations. $60,000 was raised to bring nancy home in a few days. >> she didn't want to die in alaska and wanted to come home. we were going to figure something out. >> three days time over $50,000, $55,000 in three days' time. incredible. >> nancy was diagnosed with

ejected her 14-year-old sister. the teen was killed and another teen inside the car was also hurt. the entire crash appeared live on instagram. the video will be a critical piece of evidence. snapchat videos will be evidence in a deadly crash in pennsylvania. three women were killed on tuesday morning, another woman hurt when their suv crashed into a telephone pole. police say the women were drinking inside the car when driving and posted the video inside snapchat. we're learning more approximate a high tech crime that we told but yesterday morning. fairfax county police say this is the maintenance man accused of trying to film a woman. police say he left behind a recording device in the woman's apartment. it looks like this. it happened at the julian at fair lakes apartment. the woman contacted police after addnan asked her to take a shower to make sure the water wouldn't affect the electrical system.

investigators found 90 other victims much potential -- on the device. in news for your health, bad news out of a study on sperm counts. the numbers are dropping for american men. the impact reaches far beyond fertility. lower sperm counts linked to higher death rates and greater risk of disease. i think what we need to do is further work to try and determine if this is real. why? if we can come up with explanations for this, what can we do to halt this trend? >> lower sperm counts are linked to exposure to some chemicals in plastics and nicotine, especially in the womb. back to school season is upon us. i just am not ready for this yet. it does mean that immunizations for many students in the area. kaiser permanente is offering a free clinic at the

angelina jolie is opening up about her diagnosis of bells palsy. in an interview with vanity fair, she's been diagnosed with hypertension which is linked to bells palsy. it can cause one side of the face to be temporarily paralyzed. she said acupuncture helped that condition. this morning a local dad has an incredible story. he hopes it will encourage others to purchase an automated external defibrillator or an aed. his quick thinking and action saved the life of a complete stranger. >> i thought this only happens on tv. >> louie reyes was driving on the university of maryland campus on sunday when he heard screaming. i man had collapsed. he pulled over, grabbed his aed and ran into action. >> within seconds we had a pulse. within 30 seconds, he was breathing and talking. wi

many of you may use to start your day off with exercise. someone shot and killed a man and his dog on the anacostia riverwalk trail yesterday morning. it happened beneath the east capitol bridge in d.c. >> molette green is live on the trail with more on the search for a suspect that's happening right now. molette, good morning. >> aaron, eun, good morning to you. it is a mystery as to what happened some 200 yards past the east capitol street bridge behind me. no arrests, no motive given in this case in the shooting death of a man and his dog. they were found dead during the wednesday morning rush. witnesses, they heard gunshots about a half dozen reported gunshots during the 8:30 half hour of the morning. this bike trail is an important part of this river terrace rebound. it gets quite busy with bikers during that time

you know. >> molette green live for us. thank you. backlash to president trump's decision banning transgender people from serving in the military. now the white house and pentagon are faced with an important question. what happens to thousands of transgender people currently serving. this is a big reversal of an obama area policy that lifted the ban on transgender service members. >> the announcement caught a lot of people off guard. tracie potts live on capitol hill now. tracie, what happens next? >> what happens is wait until you get more information how do they plan to roll it out? surveys say are thousands of people who are transgender currently in the military. a survey found between 13700 an 1600. there are thousands of people in the military who could be affected by this. the big question, what about people who are currently
