terrified riders tumbling. one person, an 18-year-old is dead and several others injured, including a 14-year-old boy. the fair is open again today but all rides will remained shutdown until state investigators are sure that they are safe. >> it's a terrible situation. but all we can do is what is humanly possible to make sure that we provide the safety and the inspections. we will hear accident survivors heroing stories later in this hour. >> there's one fireball operating in maryland right now. in light of that accident in ohio, local inspectors went and checked out -- and just to make sure it's safe. this ride is located at the amusement park in ocean city. the state's department of labor licensing and regulation told news 4 that the park operators decided to suspend that ride just as a precaution after the ohio incident and they've

manufacturer. we're told now there are no evidence at this point that anything is wrong with the ride there. but does the deadly accident in ohio make you think twice about carnival rides. that's our nrs bc washington flash survey this afternoon. so far those of you have weighed in some, more than half of you are saying you are thinking twice. keep voting on the facebook page and we'll keep an eye on it. >> the search is underway for the man who randomly attacked and stabbed a woman. this happened on a trail just south of the vienna fairfax metro station. woman told police that a man walked up behind her, stabbed her in the neck and then ran away. this attack is one of three major crimes reported on trails in the dc area since yesterday. peddling through her leesburg neighborhood, an 8-year-old girl made a decision that may have saved her life. >> she refused to get into a woman's car, instead, she raced home.

reporter caught up with that girl's mom today. david, what's the story here. >> leon and eric, i can tell you, this is one of those stories that other parents may be sitting their parents down and say, hey, watch this. she did exactly what most parents would hope their own children would do, follow their gut and refuse to go with somebody who, no matter how persuasive, had no business offering them a ride. >> there's no shortage of bikes peddling down, kids out for the summer, right, they want that taste of freedom. >> it was one of the first times i decided she was old enough to ride home by herself. >> one mom's whose voice you'll hear on had let her eight-year-old ride a few blocks home from a neighbor's house. it's a quiet seemingly safe community, too. tuesday, a woman pulled up in a sedan and tried to convince the girl her mom was in the hospital and told her to get in the car. >> you know, she's a

first at 4, police are trying to piece together the last moments of a man's life. his body was found along the trail right in prince georges county. >> megan fitzgerald is on the scene with what we

neighbors were walking alon this trail early this morning when they spotted a body right next to the bridge. they called 911 within minutes this area became a crime scene. >> all of a sudden, five trucks -- >> there was a dead body. >> and where children come to play. >> they found an adult hispanic mail unresponsive along the trail. >> the adult mail did have trauma to his body. >> for nearly five hours, investigators and they collected evidence to try and figure out who killed this man and why. police don't believe this murder was gang related they're asking the public with information. anyone who has information might have seen something or and that's a contact of the police department right away. megan fitzgerald, news

the chance is there, that placement can be anywhere across the area. as we move on into your friday evening, we continue to track showers you'll notice them stopping here at 2:00 a.m., more pockets of heavy rain. we could see rain fall rates at times of maybe 2 to 3 inches per hour, that's when the flash flooding concerns really come in. 8:00 a.m. on saturday, we're still tracking showers and unfortunately, look at the afternoon and evening hours, still a chance for mainly light showers in the forecast at that point. the road conditions, these next few days, tonight is going to be just fine, most of us completely dry. tomorrow there is the chance for some widely scattered liegts showers up there. but it's really tomorrow evening on into saturday morning where we're tracking wet roads out there and the potential for some areas of flooding, especially on the roads, so you want to be cautious for hydroplaning and never drive through a flooded roadway. weekend weather outlook, yard

involved in a deadly accident that they're recommending grind operators stop using similar rides across the country, that includes a ride in association city maryland. >> one person died and seven others injured on a ride called fireball. the ride broke apart mid flight, sending terrified riders tumbling nearly two stories to the ground. >> chris has the latest and we have to warn you that some of the video can be tough to watch. >> a bystander's cell phone camera captured the moment that fun night at ohio state fair turned into disaster. >> people are like 60 feet up. >> the ride called the fireball broke apart in midair. >> it was at its highest point and i saw somebody fall on the ride and then a minute later, the whole row of seats fell off. >> terrifying riders came crashing to the ground. one of them 18-year-old, a recent recruit

the nbc washington facebook page about this, does the deadly accident in ohio make you think twice about carnival rides, almost all of you say you're thinking twice now or that you don't buy them any way. right now, the u.s. military is waiting to make any changes to its transgender policy, until president trump issues the directive through formal channels and not just over twitter. they're looking for clarification to what exactly he meant when he tweeted about the tremendous medical cost, calling them "a burden." nbc news pentagon hans nicholls hash through it. it seem to indicate they can't afford the medical care, what do we know about that, is that the case. >> it's not argument we've heard here. the issue of transgender at the pentagon has really been focused on what you do for new recruits, right? they were suppose to have guidelines in place on july 1.

they had a six month delay. what you do for current service members who have identified as transgender is there's a whole process in place, last year they were told that they will be allowed to identify with the gender of their choosing and there are, by some estimates, anywhere for up to 7,000, that's the high end of number of individuals. here, people are telling us more in the couple hundreds and the cost, i'll get to the cost argument here, $8.4 million which is a rant study, that presupposes several thousand individuals that are going to need some sort of medical treatment. in reality, the numbers probably closer to 100, at least, so far those that have come far in the last year or so. >> okay, there's still some explaining to do when it comes to that. >> a lot of explaining, it's not quite confusion here at the pentagon, but they want more guidance, they want clarity from the white house on what president trump intends what he means. they're saying right now policy has not changed here rs they'll continue to treat transgender individuals service members and
