what police are doing tomorrow to find him. a spike in crime near a popular gathering spot. growing concerns around the georgetown waterfront. that breaking news tonight from the fairfax county school board after two years of debate and a marathon meeting tonight filled with emotion. >> after all that, the name of jeb stewart high school will change sometime between now and 2019. news 4 shomari stone is live. the board took their time with this tonight. >> reporter: yes, they did take their time and it took two years to come to this point. jeb stewart high school will get a new name. no word on the name. the school board will get input from the community before they vote on a new name change.

change the name of j.e.b. stuart high school to honor the slave-holding confederate general. he was killed in an 1864 battle and it's hurtful for students to attend a school name for a defender of slavery. people that didn't want the name change say it's an attack on southern heritage and will cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to change the name. in the end, the majority of the school board members voted in favor and we'll have reaction from the fairfax community. >> i feel sad. i believe it is a process that was corrupt, and it was just incomprehensible from the beginning. >> reporter: name is going to change. your reaction. >> i'm happy for that. >> reporter: why? >> because we are dismantling white supremacy. >> reporter: the name change will not occur until 2019. it's worth mentioning that there are 31 schools that are either named of

rain. higher amounts of six inches are possible in some locations. that much rain flash flooding is going to be likely in spots. what can you do now to prepare? check your pumps and if you have to be out driving when torrential rains are coming down, never drive through a flooded road way. turn around, don't drown. take a look quickly at the road conditions. tomorrow morning most of the road dry, but by the evening we're dealing with wet roads and saturday morning flooded roads. i'll have more on the timing and impact and what this means for the rest of the weekend rain during the full forecast. >> thank you, amelia. >> tomorrow morning police will return to the trail in fairfax county where a woman was stabbed. apparently a random attack. they are going back around 7:00 a.m. trying to find people who may have seen something this morning at that same time. she says the guy came up behind her, stabbed her in the neck and ran

people in the neighborhood are still nervous. police say it was an unprovoked attack. the victim was not able to give a good description of the attacker. new tonight, a man facing charges in connection to a stabbing and fire that seriously injured a woman. this is noel ramirez. chopper 4 was over the scene after prince william county police found the victim inside a burning home here in wood bridge this afternoon. she's expected to recover. three officers went to the hospital for smoke inhalation. the cause of the fire and stabbing are under investigation. >> new tonight, news 4 learned a popular area is dealing with a spike in crime. most of it is non-violent, but a double shooting there earlier this month left a teenager dead.

street forth west with more about this. >> reporter: dozens of reports of crimes in recent weeks all in this area near the georgetown aqueduct. the revitalized street scape has become a popular draw for visitors and people who live in the area. >> you see all sorts of people from around the world, come travel here and they visit. this is one of their stops because of the view and all that. >> reporter: theless la less lad area where the street dead ends into a construction site and bicycle trail is a magnet for crime. ross patterson and his friends often bike down at the park. he says they avoid that part of water street. >> the city could do better with the lighting, so light draws away things like that. so it's like, you know, kids are going to be drawn to an area where i smell substances there. >> reporter: most of the crime reported

trespassing, drinking in public. this shows two men suspected of taking two bicycles. they innesitially are unaware o security cameras and grab what they can to disguise themself. raised the concern of residents and people who work in the area. d.c. police say in a statement they have received reports of illegal activity in the area adding recently we've increased the amount of patrols to this area and have been working with our partners at the u.s. park police to address this on going problem. d.c. police statistics show an uptick in both robberies and assaults in which guns were not used in this same area in recent weeks. jackie benson, news 4. i'm leon harris at the live

desk. the white house communications chief is slamming a reporter for an r-rated interview he gave and has the political and media world buzzing this evening. anthony tweeted he shouldn't have trusted a reporter and said he wouldn't let it happen again. ryan lizza is the reporter. he published an interview and in it, the communications director profanely went after the chief strategists steve bannon and reince reince pre bias. he was upset over word getting out about a dinner he was having with president trump and some figures from fox news. white house press secretary sarah huckabee sanders defended her boss on fox news' "the story" tonight. >> i think sometimes we have a lot of passion. sometimes when you have the best people from around the country coming in with a variety of backgrounds, very different

attorney general loretta lynch and former fbi director james comey. republicans on the committee say special counsel robert mueller's investigation into possible trump campaign collusion is too limited. >> amid speculation president trump might try to fire robert mueller, the wall street journal reports that senators from both parties are working to stop him from doing that. senators lindsey graham and cory booker will introduce a bill next week. update to breaking news we brought you this evening. police arrested a 17-year-old for the triple shooting. this happened in the dell ray neighborhood blocks away from the baseball field where a gunman opened fire on members of congress last month. police tell us the suspect shot a car traveling on east howl avenue and it crashed into an svu. three people were treated at the hospital. they are expected to be okay.

police say the suspect did know the victims. they are not releasing his name because he's being charged as a juvenile. president trump today honored the first responders that protected members of congress from a gunman at the baseball practice last month. two capitol police officers and alexandria police officers were awarded medals of valor today. last month after a gunman opened fire on the baseball field, this group helped contain the shooter and save lives. >> these officers saved the lives of every innocent person on the field that day. they are american heroes, and we solute them. >> the senate passed a bill to expand the capitol police memorial fund. it will assist not only the families of capitol police killed in action but those injured in the line of duty. >> a retired fairfax county priest is accused of inappropriately tin

the ohio state fair is back open tonight but no one can get on any rides. that's because investigators are still trying to figure out what caused a malfunction that threw people into the air and killed an 18-year-old marine recruit. several others were injured, some critically. ohio has some of the toughest ride inspection standards of any state in the country. inexpect tospectors went over t ball ride three to four times in vent days and didn't find issues. it passed inspection hours before the tragedy. the news 4 i-team reports that an amusement park operator in ocean cityus

lot of outdoor plans. obviously it's summer. you want to get things done and go to the beach and enjoy one good thing with new information sunday looks to be mainly dry. plenty of sunshine. half of the weekend still looking quite nice but as we move on into the day tomorrow, later in the day especially, we're really going to be dealing with pockets of heavy rain. currently temperatures in the 70s in the suburbs and 80 in washington. it is muggy out there and we'll still be muggy kind of throughout the day tomorrow. here is the latest check in the immediate area. we're dry right now. can't rule out a shower tonight but for the most part, most of us mainly dry overnight into tomorrow morning. you can see the scattered showers out here towards cincinnati and st. louis. so it's going to be this area of rain, along with kind of a weather system we can't really see that's around the upper great lakes. kind of come together and really bring a lot of heavy rain to our area especially in the mid atlantic. so here is your rain outlook.

out there. as we move to the midday hours, coverage starts to increase to scattered and tomorrow evening on into saturday morning we're talking about wide-spread rain around the lunchtime hours on saturday wide spread rain and finally start to see the rain wind down on saturday everyone. when it's all said and done, one to four inches likely and isolated higher amounts in some locations, as well. unfortunately, with the storms it's difficult to pinpoint where the town that might get six inches will be. the best chance will be north of washington. areas of montgomery and frederick country. definitely heads up there. here is the planner tomorrow morning. 7:00 a.m. cloudy and dry. 74. around lunchtime hit a high of 82 at that point. showers are moving in. during the afternoon hours, we're tracking rain and a few storms. if we see any thunderstorms develop tomorrow, they also have the potential to be strong to severe. with very heavy rainfall but some

still tracking the heavy rain for friday evening. 77. if you can get out of town tomorrow around lunchtime or wait until saturday around the lunchtime hours is probably the best plan. high temperature on saturday of only 72. that's the high temperature we see in early october. rain some heavy rain in the forecast still on saturday. there is the potential for heavy rain into the afternoon hours how this system is setting up. it will be breezy out there on saturday. so yard work this weekend, you have an excuse to hold off that barbecue saturday afternoon or the outdoor birthday party. you definitely need a plan b. i would definitely try to make plans indoors heading to the beach, there are showers in the forecast both days there but especially on saturday. getting the car washed later sunday or throughout the day on sunday, that's a good idea because look at this. monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday, friday keeping it completely dry. all the action here tomorrow and
