the heaviest rain falls over night tonight. we're getting rain fall reports of 2 inches per hour and higher in some locations. you can see some of that right now around the langley park area along 193 and 320. if you can just avoid travel tonight, another area that's seeing heavy rain and the sevens corner area. again, everybody is under a flash flood watch until 2:00 tomorrow afternoon. i'll have more on the timing and impact when we're going to start to see the rain calm down. you can see here is a live look outside of the station here in northwest washington. this is looking at nebraska avenue. the rain coming down sideways right now and more rain on the way, we've seen 1 to 4 inches across the area today and over night tonight and another 1 to 3 inches. more on what you can expect for the rest of your weekend coming up in a little bit. >> we'll check back with you shortly, amelia, thank you. we're seeing a lot of rising creeks and flooded roads. our team coverage continues now with rc

the parkway in silver spring. darcy, it looks awful there. >> hey, 4:00, it was totally dry. i brought out the big umbrella. it is pouring down rain, if you can't see it. take a look here behind me. i want to show you right here. this is a playground here at the park. you can see the swing and toys there. no kids are getting anyplace today. it is a total wash out. let's show you right here, you mentioned some of the flooding. this is the creek. as you can see right now it is moving. >> drivers making a big splash on the road in kensington, rain fell fast and hard touching flash flood warnings in the region. drivers had to slow down for standing water. we found men pushing a car that had gotten stuck in high water. >> tell us what happened? >> the car got floode

some roads in the region and beach drive are just a couple. this creek, a northwest branch looked more like a raging river flooded its banks and that created some dicey moments for campers at the danger center. >> they were under a tarp when the rain started pouring. >> it's pretty phenomenal. >> priscilla said the parking lot flooded, everyone stayed positive it was after all creek week at camp. >> you're taking this in stride. >> absolutely. >> was it scarey at all or was everyone pretty safe. >> everybody was safe where we were. you know, it is a little bit frightening to see that happen so quickly and say, all right, how are we going to get all of these kids picked up at 3:0030. i think we're okay -- 3:30. i think we're okay right

officer juan hernandez follows in his squad car. dash cam video clearly shows the squad car pinning the suspect. >> if you watch the video in this case, you'll see ha he turned his car into the individual cause him to fly up over his hood and it was actually just a lucky thing that that individual was not injured. >> he was following, chasing a suspect who was set to be on. he was in danger and serious danger. >> koaccording to the defense attorney in this case, he had a spotless record. the police department, he's been with the department since 2006. >> an officer, prince georges county police department who has a teller record of service to the community and had been an asset to the police department and to his community, one incident should not define the great work that this man has done without his

colleagues, including the supervisor spoke on his behalf saying he was a good guy and hard worker. in the end the judge decided he didn't deserve any jail time, although prosecutors asked for it. >> we felt that he deserved some sort of jail time given the fact that a jury of his peers found him guilty of second degree assault. officer hernandez has two years probation, 100 hours of community service with children, that's what the judge specified. he is still suspend with the prince georges county police department. eternal affairs will have to review or decide if he should be fired from the job. i'm tracee wilkins, news 4. >> developing story we're following tonight, first democrat running for president in 2020 is from maryland. congressman john delaney is the first democrat to formally enter the race. he accuses trump of making the u.s. more dangerous. he's represented w

played a role alex reye riva's murder. several teenage gang members among those charged in maryland, a man was stabbed there 153 times during ms 13 hit last summer. they lured him to the park with promises of sex, but instead the gang members jumped out and killed him. police say ms 13 targeted him because he flashed another gang hand sign. >> thank you. the senate is set to take up new legislation next week after the latest republican attempt to over haul health care failed in dramatic fashion. three republican senators and all of the senate democrats voting no on the so-called skinny bill to raise parts of obama care. this morning president trump tweeting that they let the american people down. senators john mccain, suzanne

warnings right now. do not drive across any flooded roadways. amelia and i have the rest of the forecast coming up in a few minutes. >> well a couple of finally comes home after getting stuck in alaska for nearly three months. it's term she suffered a health scare on two-week cruise with her husband, paul. nancy ended up in a hospital in anchorage hooked up to ventilator. thanks to hundreds of strangers in alaska today she is back in a rehab facility. they donated tens of thousands of dollars to get her home. chris gordon spoke with nancy today in an interview you'll see only on news 4. >> i knew somehow i would make it if it was in god's will for he to make it. >> i spoke with nancy and her husband paul in this nursing rehab facility. they're grateful to all of those people in

iraq, was readjusting to life back in the u.s. 11 years ago seemingly random shooting ended his life. tonight the family of paul zeller still doesn't know who killed him or why. but they're using his unsolved case to help other victim's families. >> you never think of your youngest, the youngest member of your family dying. you don't think of them dying in a murder. and then you don't think it would never be solved. >> that's been the reality for lid ya robinson over the past 11 years. june 30, 2006, her little brother paul recently out of the army starting life back on the east coast had just finished work late that summer night and took metro back and made the stop into the harris teeter. store cameras show him walking out. after leaving, her brother had with him the cigarettes and mountain dew he had

tonight, take a look at this video. it's from tuesday morning outside the wells fargo on fairfax boulevard. two customers say the same person tried to steal money from them at the drive through. in one case the suspect got in the woman's car. just a few minutes later, the same man stole money from a cash register at the nearby aldi supermarket. witnesses say he's a white man in his 30s with a gray goatee and short hair. if you recognize him you're -- remember, if you use a drive through atm, just try to stay aware of what's going on around you. >> and imagine how mad you would be if this was your week at the beach, mistake by a construction crew ruined summer vacation for 10,000 visitors to the outer banks. thursday contractors building a new bridge drove a steel post through under ground electrical cable leaving hatter as islands in the dark.

the company said the environmental protection agency has approved the plan for auto maker to buy back the diesel cars involved. they provide about 326,000 vw

the models include the jetta, beetle and the audi a 3. they're two liter tdi engines. last year volkswagen agreed to pay more $15 million. it violated the clean air act and tried to cheat u.s. emissions test. >> not as much money, wells fargo has agreed to refund $80 million to customers who were hit by carload insurance they didn't need. the money will go to well over a half a million customers who were wrongly charged for auto collateral protection policies. a bank official says the company takes full responsibility for failing to manage the insurance program. the bank says it discontinued the program based on findings from a review. the unnecessary cause forced more than 270,000 customers into delinquency on their loans. this is a reunion, 40 years in the making in the news

area. let's get right to the warnings out there right now. we're seeing flood warnings for all of the areas here in green and the burgundy color. this is going to include montgomery village, the top of the beltway. pretty much all of the beltway dealing with rain right now making for slow go out there, buoy, college park, bailees crossroads and hillcrest heights. under flood warnings these expire between about 7 and 8:00. you can download our nbc washington app for latest weather alerts in your neighborhood. as we take a look at the radar and what's happening right now. the heaviest rain out around the poolsville area. you can see thunder developing. really not about severe weather from here on out. it's all about heavy rain fall and additional flash flooding. you can see south of baltimore, the city there, bursting really bright colors. for the most part, we're kind of in lull relatively
