good to have you here. >> good to be here. let's get right to the weather. storm team meteorologist lauryn ricketts, good morning. >> good morning. it's a treacherous morning if you're out and about out roadways we are looking at more rain. let's head to the map and show you what's depending on. it's a cloudy, gloomy july saturday morning outside. you can see we've got flood watches in place, flood warnings in place as well. flash flood watch, warnings because rivers and streams at flood stage, just approaching flood stage, this what we're continuing to watch. more rain headed our way. more rain through the shenandoah valley right now. this is the area of rain i'm going to be watching to come right through our area as we go through the next several hours. we'll be timeing that out show you when

coming up. a whole lot of rain causing problems especially on the road. first responders urging you not to drive through the spots you see standing water. >> derrick ward live near tilledon street near peirce mill in northwest d.c. tell us how roads are looking behind you. it looks bad. >> reporter: yeah. this is what we're going to be looking for later on and worried about. further up they had closing. can you see why. this the power of rock creek. take a look. if you look at the bridge support, that tells you how high the water was at the height of this incident. as you can see it's still pushing through. if you look, you can see it actually breached this wall and left some on top of it, on the trail. if you look back in the

of homeland security. of course that appointment will have to be confirmed by the u.s. senate which is set to go on recess in two weeks. in washington, nbc news. while political drama around here is seemingly unending, you may say, he's got to break from presidential campaigning. think again. nearly 1200 days before 2020, john delaney said he's going to be candidate. he wants to be the next commander in chief to boost economy. he's a moderate, former banker and one of the richest members in the house. he slammed trump administration for destructive partisanship. delaney currently represents maryland, frederick and montgomery counties. he's not expected to run for re-election next year. prince george's county state's attorney is planning to run for county executive. she plans to formally announce her bid on monday in camp springs. sh

with another award, the president's award at the national press center here in d.c. last night for outstanding service to jusournalism and thi community. vance died a few weeks ago after a short battle with cancer. our news director accepted the award on vance's behalf. also recognized at that ceremony, the parents of a d.c. journalist who was shot and killed. >> sharnise milton she died several years ago. whoever pulled the trigger, never been caught. news 4 reports. >> reporter: recognized with a stand ovation at the national press club's journal award, the parents of charnice milton, a reporter for capital community news killed may 27th, 2015 as she waited for a bus on good hope southeast.

current temperatures a little chilly shenandoah valley 60s, low 70s in d.c. don't think we're going to move too far from that. these are flood watches and warnings. let me break it down for you. what we have in the dark green that's shaded for everybody. flash flood watch. that goes until early this afternoon. neon green you see here, those are flood warnings. it's not necessarily raining in these shots, storm team 4 radar coming up. this just means streams and rivers are going to continue to rise. most of these streams and rivers at flood stage already, approaching flood stage and they will continue to as long as we have rain especially if we get a little more runoff. we could have more flooding concerns as we continue through the day. you can see a lot of areas dry. we are starting to see a little more rain enter shenandoah valley at this point. we've got the tail end of this system out to the west in west virginia. that's going to continue to rotate through our area as it moves off the coast. we've already had a lf

homeless veterans and their kids. more than 2 million served, they deal with everything men deal with, ptsd, disabilities to facing a lacking in certain job skills. they also have additional battles they face, big challenges, things like military sexual trauma and limited veteran programs to them. most-of-those are only open to men. of the women who are divorced or separated, most of them have custody of their children. as with many construction projects, the repair have not gone as planned. in may we told you about an online fundraiser that gave the nonprofit a boost, but construction keeps hitting road blocks. >> the permitting process has presented some challenges some didn't definitely envision, so we appreciate support working through those challenges. we appreciate what fairfax county has done. we help if there's anything additional they can do to

north korea. all of this follows the north's second test launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile this month. the latest missile landed, get this, within 230 miles of japan's coast. the u.s. and south korea, they responded within hours this morning with its own test missile launch on the south korean coast. experts say this latest missile from the north was powerful enough to reach much of the u.s. pretty scary there. you think it ends with north korea, you're wrong. there's growing tension between the u.s. and russia. the white house now saying president trump intends to sign a bill imposing new sanctions on russia. >> moscow is hitting back, seizing u.s. diplomatic properties. nbc's chief foreign correspondent richard eppingel more. >> reporter: from above it hardly looks like a place to be at the center of a diplomatic row between washington and the kremlin but thesi

eyebrows this morning. the group law for black lives filing complaints after it saw an officer wearing a shirt, that shirt right there, in court. the website tweeted out yesterday. according to defamation league the symbol you see is used by white supremacist groups. responded and said the shirt was disgraceful and does not represent the department. at 26 years old he survived a deployment to iraq. then when he returned home to arlington, a seemingly random shooting took his life. now his family is donating the reward money raised in his case. they are doing it to help other victims' family members heal. >> a check presentation without much smiling. when lydia robertson's family raised this money 11 years ago, they hoped they would be handing the check off in exchange for some sense of closure.

roll through as we continue through the remainder of the day today. we've got more rain as well. it's a gloomy start for your saturday morning here in your nation's capital. it's a weather alert this morning. we do have a few isolated showers out there. of course flooding is still a concern because it's not doing to take much rain to actually add to the problems we already have. but as i was just telling mollette and dave, we've got actually a very nice stretch of weather coming our way. current temperatures out there right now, 72 here in washington, 75 in annapolis, 60s and 70s across the board. this is where we're going to stay. a little chilly out there for this time of year. neon green, these are the flood warnings we have. not necessarily raining in those areas right now. we have those rivers and streams at that flood stage or just approaching the flood stage right now. we'll continue to see that. some of these waters will start to recede as we do through the morning. again, we've got more rain. here is the last tail end of this system that has to rotate through the area.
