timing coming up in a few minutes. >> all right. we'll check in with you then. thanks, lauryn. you're going for notice wet roads. we've been talking about this as folks are heading out this morning. you've been checking on your phone seeing alerts come in. heavy rain with streets you're traveling down. >> news 4's derrick ward watching it all in montgomery county with a look at the road block you need to watch out for today. hey, derrick, what's the latest? >> hey. still here on beach drive near east west hypighway. there were issues earlier last night attachment a look. this car, obviously a delivery vehicle, the driver, occupants had to get out of there in a hurry. obviously authorities have been here. you see the caution tape wrapped around it. there's water in this car. that tells you how high the water was earlier. something we've learned, we talked to a park manager here who says a lot of streets and roads closed here

because of the high water but in the woods, in that wooded area around those roads, there's logs on the ground. they haven't been removed yet. when you get high water it floats out onto the roadway. get equipment to get that off there and clear the roadway, working against time a bit because we're expecting more rain. may have to wait for this storm to be over, get stuff out of the way and reply for next round. live at rock creek park. heavy rain forcing about a dozen people out of their homes this morning. all that water caused part of a basement wall to collapse. it happened in this apartment building on b street southeast. d.c. fire officials tweeted out these photos this morning. the building, as you can imagine, not safe to go back into. while no one got hurt, the red cross they are stepping in helping find those folks temporary dry shelter. >> many people told to slow down on the roads yesterday as that rain

flooded roadways in miocic county forced people to push cars to get out of the high water. first responders say never drive through standing water. in wheaton, some campers at the brookside nature center had to find out plans when a creek swelled over its banks. >> not much better indoors, mollette. especially verizon center. washington mystics postponing their game after rain started to leak in. a view tweeting these photos when water started to come from the roof. that's not good. the team said it was worried about player safety. they have not yet announced a makeup date. >> there's a group that will try to block a krrt project in prince georges county. the alliance are upset over power line on carver road. many residents in the area are descendants of freed black

they fear it will affect the price of the land. centreville road in herendon at 11:00 a.m. politics once again making headlines this morning as we turn now to what is a major shake-up at the white house. chief of staff reince priebus out. >> out. it follows a headline grabbing rant by anthony scaramucci. the change abruptly announced on twitter. >> reporter: reince priebus is officially out as president trump's chief of staff. nbc news confirming priebus submitted his resignation thursday. a source close to priebus said he's had enough. president trump announced on twitter naming homeland security secretary-general john kelly as a replacement. in a series of tweets, the president said of kelly, he's a great american, a great leader, the star of my administration. >> general kelly has been a star

everybody. a great, great american. >> of priebus the president tweeted, we accomplished a lot together and i am proud of him. afterward priebus continuing to support the president in an interview on cnn. >> i think it's smart for him to pick kelly and i think things will be run very well. >> reporter: priebus, former cheer of rnc, a long time president insider but clashed with the president's inner circle. the move comes after days of escalating tension in the west wing and speculation of a shake-up after newly hired communications director anthony scaramucci slammed pribsz in a profanity-laden tirade making front page headlines. the white house said the change had been in the works for two weeks and had nothing to do with scaramucci. general kelly set to begin his new post on monday. of course, this new appointment leaves a gaping hole in president trump's administration. he will have to appoint a new secretary to take over department of hond

of course that appointment will have to be confirmed by the u.s. senate which is set to go on recess in two weeks. in washington, blaine alexander, nbc news. doesn't it feel like political drama around here is unending. at least we've got a break from presidential campaigning, right? think again. nearly 1200 days before 2020, john delaney said he's going to be candidate. the democrat said yesterday he wants to be the next commander in chief to boost the economy and open up opportunities. delaney is considered moderate, also a former banker, and one of the richest members in the house. he slammed trump administration for destructive partisanship. delaney currently represents maryland, frederick and montgomery counties. he's not expected to run for re-election next year. not done with politics yet. prince george's state's attorney planning to run for county executive. she plans to formally announce her bid on monday in camp springs. she'll join a democratic field that includes state seto

up in a few minutes. >> we'll check with you then. our beloved jim vance honored with another award, the president's award at the national press center here in d.c. last night for outstanding service to journalism and this community. vance died a few weeks ago after a short battle with cancer. our news director accepted the award on vance's behalf. also recognized at that ceremony, the parents of a d.c. journalist shot and killed. >> charnise militarion died several years ago. whoever pulled the trigger, never been caught. news 4's jackie bensen reports. >> reporter: recognized with a standing ovation at the national press club's journal award, the parents of charnice milton, a reporter for capital community did news shot and killed the night of may 27th, 2015, as

she waited for a bus on good hope southeast. she was returning home from covering a community meeting for capital news. the parents said the police told them the intended target of the shooting grabbed her and used her for a human shield. >> i never had a chance to make those big bylines. but working alongside wonderful colleagues throughout this town and waited on her break when she was tragically taken away from us. >> reporter: d.c. police released these images as atv riders described as persons of interest in the murders. but despite the wide dissemination of those images, no arrests have been made. miltons parents expressed gratitude at the national press club saying it keeps her memory alive. >> i was very excited that her piers recognized her strength and her commitment to the community and how important she was to washington, d.c., and to the world.

down i-95. here is an upper level low trying to get its act together. that's doing to get pivot down enthusiastic virginia and eventually take some of this rain with it. so we will have those rain chances mainly because of that area of low pressure. a flash flood watch in the darker green. neon greens are flood warnings. flood warnings are for rivers and streams already out of their banks or at flood stage right now. anne arundel county around bristol, shut down, upper marlboro, a lot of flooding around that area, the district. you can see by martinsburg having some problems as well.
