>> reporter: eric a we are here on quarrel street in northeast washington. you can see this is still a very active investigation. there was a shooting that happened just before 3:00 this afternoon. we are not far from ken worth park and the aquatic gardens. the medical examiner was just here a short time ago and that part of the scene is gone right now. at this point, police are not confirming whether this was a homicide, but again, the medical examiner just left the scene. this is the latest in a string of shootings and violence here in the district just since last night. a total, according to police, eight people shot. at least one of them fatal. six separate shooting scenes. we want to go ahead and show you a map of the locations that we put together to give you a perspective of where these are happening. those looks are in northwest washington. many of them in northeast washington, as well as in southeast, d.c.

happened in broad daylight. again, just before 3:00 outside an apartment complex. at this point, we do not know the motive and who was shot or the age at this point. at 2:00 this morning there was a double shooting on kansas avenue over in northwest d.c. one of the victims did die. he has not been identified. the second has been described as being in grave condition. let's hear from a neighbor who lives here on quarrel street. tell me what you were doing and what you heard. >> i was sitting in my house watching tv, and i just heard gunshots going off just like that, and i got nervous because my son had just went outside and i was nervous, and i was concerned because kids do play in that yard out there. >> reporter: so obviously, that was very concerning for the woman who lives right here. she heard three shots rang out. she ran out just to make sure that h

washington. police in montgomery county are looking for the man who allegedly raped a woman near the quince orchard plaza shopping center. this happened at 2:30 wednesday morning. the woman told police she met the suspect at quincy's bar and grill. the two were leaving the bar when the woman says he forced her into a grassy area and raped her. police need help identifying and finding the man. we've put the sketch of that suspect on the facebook page for you to share. a 60-year-old man stabbed in the stomach by a teenager while trying to break up a fight. this happened just after 11:00 on friendship boulevard in bethesda. there was a party in the area and police say the victim and the teen knew each other. when police got there, the teen said to be about 14 or 15 years of age, ran into the metro station and they couldn't find him. as for the man who was stabbed, he is expected to be okay. a tractor trailer is a little too tall for its own good. the bizarre accident

mobile, alabama. the truck's cab cleared the entrance and that part was fine. it's the trailer that didn't. the concrete ceiling peeled back the trailer spilling hay everywhere. nobody was hurt and this tunnel is apparently known for these crashes. a warning system is in place, but there was a similar accident last month. who knew there was an international tree-climbing championship and it's right here in our own backyard. the contest was today at the national arboretum in the northeast. in addition to climbers getting to show off their skills, the event raises awareness about how important trees are when it comes to research. >> so it won't be long before we are ramping up for a new school year. today volunteers helped some students get ahead of the game by stuffing backpacks with supplies at the horton's kids community resource center in southeast d.c. >> we have children in 28 different public school and charter schools as cross the city. they'll be here t

a house fire investigation turning into a death investigation in woodbridge. the early morning fire engulfed the home on walnut street. firefighters found a man inside the house. he was pronounced dead on the scene. news 4's derrick ward has reaction from neighbors tonight. >> reporter: the house is one of the older ones on walnut street largely surrounded by trees. just minutes before 6:00 a.m. -- >> there were several calls to 911 from neighbors who knew the man who lived there. >> i was just hoping and wishing for the best for him. >> reporter: when firefighters got to the house they discovered more than just a fire in progress. >> they made entry into the building where they found a victim. >> he was found near the front door of the home. neighbors say he livelo

>> he never bothered nobody. >> to determine the cause of death and the cause of the fire. the older home did not have a sprinkler system, however there was one smoke detector in the home. >> we have not determineded if it was, woing at the time of the incident. >> in woodbridge, derrick ward, news 4. switching gears now. we'd all like roomier seats on airplanes and now the faa has been ordered to take another look at the size of seats on planes. this after a passenger advocacy group challenged the federal aviation administration in court. the group says small seats in rows that are too close together can slow down emergency evacuations. the faa had refused to regulate seat size saying this was a matter of comfort, not safety. on friday, a federal appeals court here in d.c. said the faa used outdated tests to come

that we have all sunshine this week. so if you didn't get a chance to enjoy the weather today, you've still got a couple of hours before the sun goes down. you have several days to enjoy it. and then the humidity starts to build in on tuesday. friday, we're having some rain chances and friday's rain chances are minimal. 3 is the temperature out there right now as we continue over the next couple of hours and temperatures falling into the 70s and we'll end up in the 50s and 60s overnight and it is so nice. 83 in washington and 79 in fort meade as well as frederick and you can see it's just so comfortable out there. talking about the nates if ys ie headed out to the game. you can see those temperatures will be quite cool by the time you're leaving and maybe you want to bring a light jacket out there and definitely, you might need a light jacket tomorrow morning and keep those windows open because it's still going to be really comfortable overnight with low humidity. so maybe a light being. >>et on th

i don't think you'll need it all day because those temperatures will be warming up into the mid to upper 80s for daytime highs and look, all up and down the east coast looking good. maybe a few spotty showers in pennsylvania, but other than that, thanks to high pressure we are sunny all of the way back to the midwest and the forecast for tomorrow upper 80s and 88 degrees it will be warmer than today and the humidity still stays on the low side and to time out your morning, looking good all of the way throughout the day with plenty of sunshine very similar to today and go ahead and eat outside and monday, tuesday, wednesday, even on thursday. when does the humidity come back. we're comfortable today and tomorrow, but the mugginess comes back on tuesday. you'll feel it on wednesday, thursday and friday, and it's not going to be oppressive and it will be normal for this time of year and we're entering august, believe it or not. >> we have plenty of sunshine tu
