the dry side, but the area that's coming down right now, right along i-95 right through parts of the beltway, these are the areas that are most impacted by the storm at this time of day, a lot of people leaving home are trying to get home from work. let's take a look outside our tower cam, you notice what's happening here, the rain continues to come down, i want to show you a different vantage point. this is from our national harbor camera. check this camera out. this storm -- this camera actually shows you the entire storm over the district, look at the rain shaft right here coming on down, we've seen a couple of bolts of lightning out of this, as well, as we've looked over the past half hour to hour as this storm continued to develop. now it has been developing, first you see the storm around the creek area and i-95 corridor really lighting up between baltimore, northern prince georges and down towards dc, that's where we have the strongest storm. we have one over buoy, look at this right over parts of northwest this is going to be between the beth

hard time getting victims to come forward in the bell case. she says, there are many reasons why. >> so parents may actually just not want to come forward because they just don't want to deal with anything more than what they're forced to now deal with. >> johnson says some parents also may not know their child was a victim. she says the key to finding out is to first empower them. >> you can present a scenario, you know, and say, you know, if someone were to touch you in these places, then -- and you didn't want it. you didn't do anything wrong. >> the principal at benjamin stoddard was reassigned and no longer working in a school. kimberly hill said the decision was made in the best interest of the students and the community and to help us move forward to the start of a new school year. >> the principal is a good guy, but it's a shame that it happened to him, i mean, it was on his watch. >> reporter: bell told police

scene today, make-shift memorial for courtney ash, her five-year-old son cameron and nine-year-old cousin, jalen russell. they were traveling from ashburn to leesburg last friday night during the awful rainstorms. their car was found three days later upside down in the creek. no word yet from the medical examiner on how the victims died. now, to a lawsuit found against fox news that's making its ways across the capitol. accusing private investigator who was looking into the murder of seth rich. the investigator says fox twisted his words to pedal a conspiracy theory. chris lawrence here with reaction from both sides on this story, chris. >> well, leon, we've been on top of this story every step of the way pat collins initially reporting on the death rejecting those conspiracy theories, rod wheeler filed this lawsuit. he's the investigators who looked into seth rich's murder last year and i

frequently on fox news, the network that reported the conspiracy theory, suggesting that rich took e-mails from the democratic national committee and leaked them to wiki leaks. they say fox intentionally misquoted him in a story that suggested he discovered a leak between rich and wiki leaks. they're saying president had a copy of that and pushed fox to cover it, as is. it's an effort to overt the ongoing investigation into russia. white house denied any article and fox pulled it a week after it was published. the dnc issued a statement saying, if these allegations are true, it is beyond vile that the white house and possibly even trump himself would use the murder of a young man to distract the public's attention from the chaotic administration in trump's ties to russia. but, again, the administration said it didn't know about it and

seth rich. today the profiling project states an reenactment of the murder and republican lobbyist who runs the group says he's trying to engage the community. they haven't arrested anyone, but it may have been the result of a botched robbery. doreen. >> chris lawrence, thank you. the senate just confirmed the new fbi director christopher ray in a vote of 92-5. tonight's vote comes 84 days after president trump fired james comey. ray and comey know each other, they worked together in criminal division of justice department. that's also where he worked with special counsel. when ray left he became litigation partner at the king & spalding law firm. and he served as chris christie's personal attorney during the bridge gate controversy. >> as president trump try it is to restore order in the west wing, there are new developments in the russia investigation. >>

the news 4 i-team reported the u.s. department of veterans affair fired the long-time head of the dcva medical center. scott mcfarlane broke this story and he tells us this move comes several weeks and news 4 i-team investigation revealing a series of problems. >> washington, d.c.'s 98,000 patients, 2,000 workers and massive presence just miles from the agency's headquarters. in recent months serious troubles of reports. they found supply shortages, unsanitary conditions in storage areas and a coke roach infestation in the food service areas. an i-team investigation revealed contractors were needed to repair holes in the walls and cracks in the floor of the surgery department. brian hawkins the man you saw ran that facility for years. he was reassigned to a new position, hours after we revealed he was move today a significant position at agency

reassignment. it would take disciplinary action against hawkins. tonight they have fired him. last night the secretary indicated this was going to happen. >> there are disciplinary actions taking place right now. it's in the appeals -- it's in the due process period, but i think that there are strong actions that have been proposed. >> problems have continued after hawkins was removed from the dcva medical center. earlier this summer, they revealed the patient's body went undiscovered for two days in a parking lot outside and just this month they had to shutter an operating room because an air conditioning system inside has failed. doreen. >> scott mcfarlane thank you. a code mix up may have caused capitol police may have gone to wrong location as they responded to shooting attack in alexandria. emergency response team was sent to house minority leader nancy pelosi's house in georgetown by mistake. capitol police won't

by large tractor that comb the beach. >> we're awaiting for the autopsy report from the office of the chief medical examiner in baltimore. i think that will really give us much more detail into what might have happened. it may turn out that we need to wait for the toxicology results, as well. but i think, once we get that autopsy, we'll be able to know more of what happened. >> according to one ocean city official, the woman was last seen by her family about 2:00 in the morning. spokesperson with the ocean city police department tells news 4 the call for the body on the beach came in about 6:30 monday morning. about the same time, the victim's parents were police station to report the daughter was missing. police would not say whether there were any signs of trauma on the body. ocean city beaches remained open throughout the investigation. mark seagraves, news 4. neighbors in central florida are dealing with flooding of tropical storm emily. that sto

rain in the tampa bay area. in lakeland, florida, the water there knee high in some places, homes there flooded out, it could be days before things dry out and return to normal. at least three lawsuits have been filed against the construction company that caused a massive power outage in the outer banks. crews building a new bridge drove steel casing into under power cables last week and about 50,000 tourists were forced to leave hatteras islands at the peak of vacation season. lawsuits filed in state and federal court say the construction company was negligent and they should pay for the financial losses suffered by businesses. officials say it could take another week or two to restore the power. >> and fall out from that problem down in the outer banks is hitting home. prince georges county family can't go on their annual vacation because of that power outage. >> that's right, news 4 megan fitzgerald report they could be out thousands of dollars. we're working for you to find out if you purchase travel insurance, would it cover something

green, over towards wheaten. here is tacoma park right area. so watch out if you're in this area. this is all just south of the beltway, but it's moving to the minority of the beltway here and then heavier rain in east riverdale over towards the landover hills area. and here is 50 coming out of the district on over towards portions of prince georges county. heavy rain there, too. i mention that flood warning, here it is. this is in the green here for just about the entire city right now, also in the parts of montgomery county, parts of prince georges county. once again this goes until after midnight tonight. what this means we'll see the creeks rise fairly quickly. this is not flash flooding. it will take a little while for the creeks to respond. once they do, we could see some flooding as we tell you all the time, never drive through flooded roadways. we could see this right on through the rest of the evening tonight with some more showers and more thunderstorms. now, tomorrow, i think a r

once again, most of us remain on the dry side, just like today, watch right here. here is tomorrow at 78 a.m. nothing going on, watch what happens 1, 2:00, notice the thunderstorm activity right around the i-95 corridor during the afternoon we see a few more storms develop, not expecting much in the way of severe weather. we did see a couple of storms today that were quite strong, one around frederick, another one with that severe thunderstorm warning right now around the district until 7:00 tonight. by 8:00 tomorrow night things will start to get out of here. that will be the case tonight as well over towards the dc metro area. you'll notice this camera was packed with rain earlier, now we can see the monument again. the rain moving up to the north. you can see that off to the distance. temperature wise tomorrow right where we are today. warm and humid, few thunderstorms, yes, partly sunny and with those few thunderstorms, one or two of those just like today we'll have heavy downpours, we'll watch it. if you're sending the kids to camp, notice we do have that chance of storms tomorrow with that high

other jurisdictions busy. here is a case that just surprised me, just yesterday i came across a search warrant in fairfax county. investigators are trying to track down a guy who is seeking pictures from an 11-year-old girl. very young kids being preyed upon. back to you now in the studio. >> very disturbing news. thank you julie carey. tonight we're hearing the 911 call from drivers who spotted a wrong way driver going down route 50 in annapolis. christine parks was driving eastbound in the westbound lanes near the bay bridge last week. she crashed head on into a car driven by jose zoo, they both died on the scene. >> police, they were eastbound on 78, going over the bridge and there's a car going the wrong way on westbound 50. >> the car came at me going the wrong

westbound lane. >> hi, i just called about a car driving the wrong way. they just caused a really bad accident like directly in front of baymart. >> sickening to hear the cause. police tell us alcohol may have played a role in that deadly crash. news 4 i-team has been researching wrong way crashes and found there have been six of them on maryland road since may. a total of ten people were killed in those recks and three people were injured. a local maryland congressman getting a jump on the race for the white house. >> representative john delaney is out raising money and meeting voters and a few hours ago chris lawrence spoke with him about running for president. he's in awfully early, chris. >> he represents parts of montgomery and frederick county, he told me he wanted to get in early to listen to the concerns and of course try to build up the biggest national name brand recognition. >> do you think some of your views are out of

democratic primary voters. >> no, i think my instincts are progressive. i do seek waves for the government and the private sector to work well together and that often leads to bipartisan ship, but my instincts are clearly progressive. >> the question is, does the democratic base have any interest in working with republicans, delaney has championed some progressive causes like raising the minimum wage and he just reintroduced a bill to establish yuuniversal preschool by raising taxes on incomes above half million dollars. his background is in banking and he strongly supported the tpp why union workers and environmentalist in that great deal. >> you grew up in a union household and yet the all and cio didn't endorse you, how do you recognize that strong support for that trans pacific partnership? >> if you look at all the states d

the most, maryland was one of the top states in terms of being, you know, beneficiary to the trade agreement. i was a passionate advocate to the obama administration to pair moving that trade agreement forward with a large scale infrastructure program. >> now, congressman delaney thinks that three years now, a lot of those union workers will be somewhat disillusioned with what president trump delivers for them and unlike what we saw from hillary clinton, she vacillated on whether she would support it or not or in what shape or form. he said look, i think it's a good idea. i think he can work for the american people. he said, look, i'm going to go out there and argue for it. >> it's his early entry into the work. it isn't about raising money, either. >> he's going to inject funds into his campaign as needed. he's out there fund-raising, again, he's got a ways to go in terms of building up that name recognition for people across the country. >> okay. all right. thanks,

won't be long before kids are heading back to school, but in order to go to class, students in prince georges county have to have their vaccinations up to date. the county is offering free clinics to help. news 4 kristin wright is working for you showing you what to expect. >> prince george county school is offering free immunizations to students. only a handful took advantage of it at largo medical center. megan thornton said the school district is concerned about the number of parents who failed to vaccinate their children in years past. >> i think the number one is not knowing. i think it's important to get the information out there. >> my kayla young is going into seventh grade. her father said the free clinic is a big

seven month old and one-year-old killed in a hot car in two consecutive days. legislatures are taking a look at this legislation. but essentially ask that all new cars be manufactured with an alarm system, a warning device that let's you know, check your backseat to make sure children are not in the backseat. over the last decade or so, nearly 800 children have died in hot cars. this is an issue all across the country, of course out west, we're dealing with record temperatures, 15 million under excessive heat warnings. police tell us you can be in a car in 60-deweather and in 10 to 15 minutes that can turn deadly, certainly something folks are watching all across the country as they push this new legislation. back to you guys. >> all right. thanks miguel. you can watch the full report tonight on nightly news with lester holt which comes your way right after this broadcast. >> let's go back to doug in the storm center with an update on the wet weather raging around out the

>> coming down in some areas, others are saying, we haven't seen any rain today. most of you have stayed pretty sunny, if you live in southern maryland, no rain at all for you folks, through the district, montgomery, frederick county all seeing heavy rain. the severe thunderstorm that prompted the warning in the dc area and prince georges county has weakened now and the warning has been cancelled. it was until 7:00 that warning has been cancelled from this storm right here. you can see what's happened here, this storm came through dc. and then kind of has been weakening around the montgomery county area and striking a little bit in parts, let's take a little bit of a tour here. we've had heavy rain and flooding in that area, some trees down in parts of northwest around the kensington, seeing some of that heavy rain fall. i'll zoom in a little bit more, you can see what i'm talking about along the parkway, north chevy chase, seeing the rain, to the east, in through parts

heavy rain. this is moving to the north, so heads up around green belt. if you're not seeing it yet, you'll see it soon, farther to the south and right along route 50 out to buoy. heavy rain that continues in that area, also seeing some lightning. as i mentioned some flooding and flood warning now in effect through parts of the district as well as parts of prince georges county and southeastern montgomery county as we see upwards of an inch and could see another inch or so. never drive through flooded roadways. again, we can't express that enough. now, next couple of days, more of the same tomorrow, high temperatures upper 80s to low 90s. i think we'll see a good chance of few showers and thunderstorms. 30% chance you'll see it in your area. thursday and friday, temperatures into the low 90s. before we see a front come through and that brings through some really nice weather for the weekend. rain likely, next on monday and most of next week, a little bit cooler. continue to keep you

before training camp begun, he had a sore toe, physically unable to perform. we saw him practicing on his own yesterday and he looked like jordan reid. today we learned he went to see a specialist in charlotte. that appointment is just a check up and he's still listed as day-to-day. time now to check in with number 71, trent williams, his eighth training camp. he's trying something new. the 320-pound offensive tackle is a vegan. he's been meat and dairy free for a month now. man, does he miss mexican food. he knows this will make him better, yes, i said better, even though he's already considered the best offensive tackle in the league and five-time probowler, he has greater things in mind. >> my determination to me is one of the best to play the game, so, i mean, that alone will fuel you because it's such an unknown. you know.
