grand jury convened. what's the latest move in the russia -- could mean. he likely saved their lives. what they were doing at the time almost took his. the northern virginia deputy who accidently overdosed. first the cleanup continues for the third time in as many days after several severe storms. good morning everybody. i'm erika gonzalez. you may be one of those people picking up tree limbs or dealing with flooding this morning. things are a lot calmer. yes, they are. let's get to lauryn ricketts with a look at what we can expect today. i think we slept through a lot of it. right, lauryn? >> you're right, erika.

portion of it -- it's muggy and some fog out there. 76 is our temperature right now. we're going to continue to warm up. we're in the upper 8 0e 0s by noon. you can see a few scattered showers and thunderstorms over the last 12 hours. this was the afternoon into last night. we're clear out there now. the full forecast, only isolated storm this afternoon. we have some storms in the forecast, however, they might not be until later tonight. we're going to time that out and let you know if they're gone for the weekend. >> thank you, ma'am. see you then. we're following a developing story out of baltimore county where two teenagers are in critical condition after a tree fell on their car in lutherville. a 14-year-old girl was killed. this happened during the powerful storms we were talking about. this is video from the

seat where three teens were sitting. the mother of that 14-year-old was driving and is expected to survive. at some point most us heard and felt that storm move through the area. i saw the raindrops before i went to bed. it only lasted about ten minutes. that's all it took to create all this damage you're seeing in the video. the trees toppling the power lines, all of those resting on vehicles in that neighborhood. in all, at least 30,000 people in our area lost power at some point. jackie bensen has more on the damage. >> for over an hour after a storm blew through with great force, emergency responders were on the scene. torrential rain and strong winds toppled trees and large branches on to numerous homes and cars. >> when the storm first came around, it came in very heavy with wind. the wind was going i

one minute, they were going that way and five seconds that way. >> first responders were forced to quickly move smaller downed trees out of the way to get to calls for service. firefighters wept from house to house look for the source of a reported natural gas leak. one neighbor described the shear volume of the rain that fell. >> very short but very hard. you couldn't see more than about 100 feet and it fell, according to my rain gauge, which i emptied this afternoon, about .9 inches in ten minutes. >> reporter: a tree forced police to close eastbound lanes of columbia pike at one point. snarling traffic around the bar croft shopping center. >> it's a huge tree that had fallen out here. within five minutes, it's a big havoc, you cannot even imagine. i hope and pray that no life was st

homewood suites when he walked off. please call police if you know where he is. today will be a busy day at the white house before president trump takes off for a new jersey vacation. he'll spend the next 17 days at his golf club. on the agenda, meeting with the vice president and speaking to french president macron. he's also dealing and talking about the expanding russia investigation. robert mueller is using a grand jury in d.c. as part of an investigation into potential collusion between the trump campaign and russia. legal experts call the grand jury the next logical step in any investigation. the "wall street journal" reported this first. nbc news has not independently verified the report. coming up, tracie potts will explain what the grand jury will be looking at and who they'll be hearing from. we'll also discuss the leaked phone call transcripts

president and other heads of state. in northern virginia an incredible story of how dangerous police work can be. a stafford county sheriff's deputy is recovering after he accidentally was exposed to a dangerous opioid. deputy a.c. wofford was investigating a case involving these people. david chambers and samantha stout. they were found with illegal drugs on high point boulevard yesterday morning. the deputy handled fentanyl when he was collecting evidence inside the van and became ill. just touching the drug can result in an overdose. hospital staff in stafford gave him narcan to reverse the effects. the deputy is expected to be okay. when the new school year starts next month in montgomery county, all public schools, even

went through the day yesterday and through this morning. it will hit you like a ton of bricks when you walk out the door. by the time we hit the weekend, we'll take the humidity down a couple notches. hot and humid today. i know we've been dealing with storms in the afternoon, looks like we'll dodge a few later on today. it looks mainly later tonight. have a gorgeous weekend ahead and a little unsettled. we have rain chances here and there. it goes up and down and up and down. current temperatures 76 degrees in d.c. it felt like temperatures in the 60s right now. we have a little fog out there as well. be careful traveling around. we're going to have all sunshine pretty much all through the day, going to be hot and humid as temperatures approach 90 degrees. a lot of storms rolled through the area. baltimore received the brunt of those storms. but right now we're dry on the radar. we'll be dry for much of today. lower 90s for day
