affecting the transition lane coming on to the outer loop of the beltway along that right side. in maryland on 50 eastbound, riding out to bowie, along the right side of the roadway near 197. sounded like we had a downed tree along the right side. hopefully that can be removed quickly. the crews paving westbound at 301, basically toward the airport, they had completed their work. back to you. jack, thank you. we are following a developing story in baltimore county. two teenagers in critical condition after a tree fell on top of their car in lutherville. >> a 14-year-old girl was also killed. this happened during the powerful storms last night. take a look at the car in this video. you can see it. it's completely crushed there. fell on to the back seat where three teens were sitting. the mother of the 14-year-old was driving and is expected to survive. at some point most of us heard and

moved through our area. the lake bar croft area of fairfax county was first hit. they were forced to quickly move branches and debris to get to people who needed help. part of columbia pike was shut down after a tree pulled a power line down near the shopping center. right now, 1500 dominion energy customers in northern virginia are without power. also right now, d.c. police are searching for the person who shot power people in a neighborhood. one person died. police tell us gunfire broke out before 8:00 last night in the 3400 block of 18th street northeast near a gas station near lawrence and monroe streets. the other three victims are expected to live. a drug overdose is showing how dangerous it can be for police to respond to the situations. in stafford county, a deputy was exposed to drugs outside of a preschool and he nearly overdosed. the sheriff's office says the deputy is doing okay this morning. he was getting the drugs out of

goddard school in stafford. detectives believe he accidentally touched or breathed in fentanyl. the sheriff's office says these two people here were outside of the school and passed out. david chambers and samantha stout are both in jail right now. deputy wofford is recovering. medics gave him narcan and that may have saved his life. three minutes after the hour now. the president is getting ready to take a two-week vacation. he'll spent the next 17 days at his golf club in jersey. he will meet with the vice president and speak to french president emanuel macron. he spoke to a crowd in west virginia last night. he spoke about the russia investigation. >> the russia story is a total fabrication. it's just an excuse for the greatest loss in the history of american politics. that's all it is. >> special counsel robert

here in d.c. as part of an investigation into potential collusion between the trump campaign and russia. legal experts call the grand jury the next logical step in any investigation. "wall street journal" first reported this. nbc news is not independently verified that report. tracie potts will have more on this new step at 5:45. your time is 5:04. attorney general jeff sessions will announce a new effort to crackdown on leaks coming out of the government after transcripts of the president's private phone calls with world leaders were handed over to the "washington post." in a call to mexico's president, trump says stop publicly saying mexico won't foot the bill. you cannot say that to the press. as you know, mexico paying for the border wall was a key campaign promise. the money would likely not come from mexicond it will come out in the wash and that is okay. let's check in

gonzalez at the live desk. >> a huge high-rise in dubai caught fire. this is video of the torched tower. not clear how the fire started. but we can tell you that nobody was hurt. that same building actually also caught fire back in 2015. firefighters say that it got it all under control now. back over to you guys. erika, thank you. a massachusetts judge sentenced michelle carter to at least 15 months in prison for her role in her boyfriend's suicide. >> 15 months of the sentence shall be deemed a committed sentence. >> carter remains free this morning. the judge granted a defense motion to stay the sentence pending appeals. carter was found guilty of involuinvo involuntary manslaughter in june. the 18-year-old was found dead of carbon monoxide poisoning in his pickup truck. carter sat quietly while the family of conrad roy discussed their anger and their ss

remorse. the fact that my son was convinced to kill himself makes his death unimaginable. >> prosecutors say text messages show carter encouraged him to take his own life. right now there is a search for this elderly man from silver spring. montgomery county police say 82-year-old fred jackson hubbard went missing yesterday. this is his picture here. family members tell police he was staying with them at the homewood suites on colesville road when he walked away. a store that i left a lot of people shocked. a man accused of holding his girlfriend and children captive for two years. spotsylvania county deputies say they were held in this home. they were found on saturday. how is it that nobody knew? perhaps it has something to do with the geography of the house. it sits on four acres. people who live nearby didn't have

station. it's open today but it won't open tomorrow because of some changes happening in the name of safety. take a look. here is the map. this is essentially going to make the naylor road station the end of the line. this is until august 20th. they're going to replace cross ties and use the station rehab. they're going to be replacing crossovers. those are important pieces of rail infrastructure. if you remember, back in july of 2016, there was a derailment at the east falls church station because of a failure at a crossover. something else you need to know. on two weekends this month, the naylor road station will be closed on august 12th and 13th and august 19th and 20th. they're going to close that station for the same reason, to extend some of that work. you're being told to take the anacostia or southern avenue stations. this is all part of metro's ongoing safety enhancement program as well as some preventative

a little bit of pain for now. we're live at branch avenue. derrick ward, back to you. also this weekend, crews will be working to stop leaks on the tunnels on the red line. the medical center and bethesda center will be closed. buses run frp friendship heights to grosvenor strat moore. more than a dozen lawsuits tied to the incident have been dismissed. you might remember when this happened in 2015. a train stopped and smoke filled the tunnel near the plaza station. a woman from alexandria died. wtop reports dozens of other lawsuits are still out there and have been consolidated into one master lawsuit. montgomery county public schools are taking action when it comes to drug overdoses. for the first time starting this school ye

county public school, including elementary schools, will be stocked with naloxone, it's a life-saving treatment to reverse overdoses. they spent the summer training school staff how to administer the treatment. people we spoke to think the decision is good but also alarming. >> i think it's a great idea. i think it's scary but this is going on in the county. it's a good first step. >> we've never had a case of reported overdose on our school property, but it doesn't mean we don't need to be prepared. >> the decision to put a dosage in all 205 public schools is in response to a new maryland law designed to tackle the state's drug crisis. 15 after the hour. if you live in maryland, your children need to get their shots or they won't be allowed to get to class. there are free clinics to help you in prince george's county. today is the last day you can go to one of them. the kaiser permanente largo medical center will open to students until 4:00 this afternoon. if you't

here's 4:00. you can see isolated cells right around the area. but, kben, most of us will be dry because we're waiting for the frontal system to make it through the area. it will pump through at 7:00. up in the shenandoah valley, along i-95 at 8:30 or 9:00. a chance for showers and thunderstorms through the early portion of overnight. then that humidity starts to fall. it will be damp tomorrow morning. but it will be very comfortable. that humidity is already down. breezing through the day tomorrow. the winds will switch from the south and they'll start turning north and west. again, that will bring in nicer and drier conditions for your day tomorrow. saturday was absolutely beautiful. so today it is muggy out there. it's a little sticky. as we head through the overnight, it stays on the low side. not only saturday but on sunday as well. i admit it starts to come back on monday as we have things rolling through the area. if you're headed to the peaches, maryland, delaware beaches,

riding in baltimore county. two other teens were critically hurt. in fairfax county, bar craft was one of the hardest hit. trees brought down power lines on to the roads. it caused traffic and knocked out power to thousands. d.c. police looking for a car that may have been involved in a quadruple shooting in a neighborhood. shots rang out before 8:00 last night. three other victims are expected to be okay. a quick response may have saved a deputy's life in stafford county. the sheriff's office says he accidently overdosed while collecting drug evidence the other night. two people are facing charges in this case. two stretches of the green line will be shut down. branch avenue and suitland stations will be closed and naylor road starting next weekend. derrick rose

will have a live report coming up. he was convicted in june. third, fourth and fifth graders in silver spring. five current and former students reported that john vig that stuchd them inappropriately. a class action lawsuit has been filed against kaiser permanente against a doctor under investigation for sexually assaulting his patients. he worked as an anesthesiologist in kensington and largo from 2010 until he was dismissed in 2014. his license was suspended in 2016. several women say he inappropriately touched them. a criminal investigation is ongoing. this morning, we're learning more about the outpouring of support for d.c. engine 3 after one of their firefighters was critically injured. we brought you this story as breaking news yesterday morning. dane smothers jr. was hit by a fire truck as he was helping to put out a fire on f street

northeast. smothers' two uncles also serve in the d.c. fire department and one was responding to that same fire. >> we're proud of you. >> it makes everyone closer when you experience a traumatic event like that. the rookie firefighter was preparing hose lines and other equipment when he was pinned between two trucks. many people reached out to help engine 3, including capitol police who delivered a pizza to the firehouse. carbon monoxide leaks in suvs are causing concerns around the country. now that has hit our area. news 4 was first to report that montgomery county police are inspecting their fleet of ford explorers. so far none of the suvs in the county has tested positive for carbon monoxide inside the cabinet. but the vast majority do have cracks in the engine and must be repaired. ford says the problem is with modifications made to these vehicles for police use. so if

individuals. but this one seems to be broader, taking a look at the bigger picture of possible collusion going on during the election. the key about a grand jury is that they can get their hands-on a lot of people and a lot of stuff. they can hear from witnesses but they can also get record -- business records. lots of things that could give them a sense of what connection, if any, there might have been during the campaign. the president's attorney, internal and external, responding, saying that there's no indication that the president is a -- >> the president is dealing with the fallout with phone calls with other world leaders. what is the justice department action being taken? >> it looks like the toerp general will be announcing an investigation getting into the bottom of the leaks. the source of a lot of angst within the administration and especially for president trump. he's been

the retail industry is -- i suspect families, the average american family spending about $700 on their children going back to school this season. no doubt, they're looking to save whenever they can. in virginia, this could very well be their chance. penny pinchers probably know about the tax-free weekend when virginia lifts the state sales tax. today, from 11:59 p.m. sunday, these deals are open to all shoppers. you'll find no taxes on clothing and footwear, $100 or less. the exemptions are per item, not the total. we did find some shoppers who don't plan to shop this weekend, but say they may also still find themselves out shopping still. take a listen. >> i don't know. but yeah, i mean, if the wife has someplace to go, i'm sure
