down at the kennedy center, they hang until 6:00, 6:15. hopefully by the time you get there, they will be gone. back to you. jack, thank you. 6:02 is your time right now. we're following a developing story in baltimore county where two teenagers are in critical condition after a tree fell on top of their car in lutherville. a 14-year-old girl was instantly killed. it happened during the powerful storms last night. take a look at the car in the video. you can see it was crushed by the tree. it fell on to the back seat where three teens were sitting. the mother of the 14-year-old was driving and is expected to survive. at some point a lot of us heard and felt that storm move through the area. the lake bar craft area in fairfax county was one of the hardest hit last night. first responders forced to move quickly, move smaller downed trees out ofir

calls. >> part of columbia pike was shut down after a tree pulled a power line down near the bancroft plaza shopping center. customers were in dominion were without power. most in fairfax county. >> d.c. police are searching for a gunman who carried out a quadruple shooting. gunfire broeng out before 8:00 p.m. on 18th street northeast. it's near a gas station near lawrence and monroe. they believe the shooter was in a dark-colored malibu or impala. sne we're working with you regarding metro. >> it will shut down starting this weekend for an improvement project. derrick ward is live with how it might affect folks. good morning. >> reporter: good morning again. we're at the branch avenue station which ones it closes today won't open until august 20th.

this will tell what you it will look like. it will make it effectively the naylor road station. that's going to be in place, all of these changes, until august 20th. what's happening is metro is going to be replacing some cross ties, some crossovers, which is an important piece of rail structure. it was a derailment at the east falls church station. it was a crossover issue. they're going to be doing rehabilitation to the station also. some other changes will be in place as well. two weekends in august, the naylor road station will be closed. that will be the weekend of the 12th and 13th and the 19th and the 20th. how do riders feel about this? the ones we talked to today, reaction is mixed. >> for most people that do take the train, it's going to be very detrimental to them. >> i'm going to have to drive to work. going to be a mess. i don't know how i'm going to st

they've been delivering food and sending their best twoishs his colleagues and to the firefighter. a terrible accident at the university of maryland has left one construction worker dead. this happened at route one and campus drive. police and occupation safety officials are now investigating after a worker fell down an elevator shaft. it happened yesterday at a building under construction on campus. investigators believe this was just an accident. police have identified the man. they're asking you to keep his family in your thoughts. in northern virginia, an incredible story on how dangerous police work can be. a deputy is recovering after being accidentally exposed to a dangerous opioid. the deputy was investigating a case involving these two peoplep chambers and stout. they were found with illegal drugs at the goddard school parking lot yesterday morning. they say

the call of duty. >> that neighbor says that -- the couple has only scrapes and bruises and a few minor burns. glad to know they're okay and recovering together. montgomery county schools are taking action when it comes to drug overdoses. for the first time this school year, every montgomery county public school, including elementary schools, will be stocked with naloxone. it's a life-saving treatment to reverse overdoses. the county spent the year training -- they think it's good but alarming. >> i think it's a great idea. i think it's scary that this is going on in the county. it's a good first step. >> never had a case of reported overdose on our school property. it doesn't mean we don't need to be prepared. the decision to put a dosage in all 205 public schools is in response to a new maryland law,

drug crisis. >> 15 months of said sentence shall be deemed a committed sentence. a massachusetts woman remains free. the judge granting michelle carter's defense motion to stay the sentence pending appeals. carter was sentenced in her boyfriend's suicide. prosecutors asked for a sentence up to 12 years in prison. the death of conrad roy the iii. >> she encouraged him to take his own life prosecutors say. an 8-year-old died months after drinking boiling water on a dare. this is her. her mouth and throat were severely burned fwhak march when her cousin dared her to drink hot water through a straw after watching a youtube video. she complained she couldn't breathe and later died. doctors believe it was from complications from the burns. we are learning more

in that terrible drowning in anne arundel county. police say it was a grandfather who died along with his 4-year-old granddaughter. the 51-year-old man could not swim but he jumped in the water to save the little girl struggling in the deep end. this happened at a backyard pool. the victim's names have not been released. you're heading to the maryland or delaware beaches this weekend, expect it to take a little longer. in addition to beach bound traffic, closing an eastbound lane of u.s. 50 on the salisbury bypass. officials urge drivers to drive through salisbury to avoid the construction backups. the pavement repairs are not expected to wrap up until the fall. all right. check out this video. rubber duck is, thousands of them, being dumped into the chicago river. look at them. they're not being trashed. it is the annual rubber

dangerous opioid. deputy wofford was investigating a case involving these two people. here. they were found with illegal drugs inside a van at the goddard school parking lot on high point boulevard yesterday morning. the deputy handled fentanyl when he was collecting evidence inside the van and became ill. just touching the drug can result in an overdose. hospital staff in stafford gave him narcan to reverse the effects. deputy wofford is expected to be okay. >> we're learning about the outpouring of support for d.c. engine 3 after one of its firefighters was critically injured. we brought you this story as breaking news yesterday morning. dane smothers jr. was hit late wednesday night by a ladder truck arriving at the skecene oa row house fire. he has two uncles who are d.c. firefighters and one was responding to that same fire. his colleagues say serving with his relatives was
