developing story outside d.c. a fiery crash left one person dead. >> on florida avenue, a look at what police need to figure this thing out. good morning, derrick. >> reporter: indeed. good morning again. this is sixth and florida avenue, the hess station you know about here, like that last chance station before you hit new york avenue or go downtown. right now, it is a crime scene. one of the cars involved in an accident here being towed away. this accident happened about 3:15 this morning. according to police, it all started when a car was headed west on florida avenue and somehow lost control. we will hear from the metropolitan police department. >> the vehicle crossed the intersection of 6th street, struck a light pole and the parked vehicle on the side unoccupied park at the time, then landed on

and when it became engulfed in flames. >> reporter: that car has been towed away from the scene. when police got to that car engulfed in flames, they found someone in the passenger seat and announced dead on the scene. the driver was some distance away from the car and detectives are at the hospital trying to piece this together. this had new york avenue closed until about maybe an hour ago and now again open to traffic. you can see the damage to the sign. fortunately none of the vehicles involved got into this gas station and hit a pump where things could have gotten a lot worse. no identity on the victims involved in this, one person is dead and passenger in the black accura towed away. the driver is hospitalized as they try to piece this together. back to you. >> thank you. neighbors in new carrollton can rest easier now

cleared a shooting scene over an apartment building. price george's county police say fires were shot from a balcony around 7:30 last night. officers set up a barricade around the building and told people to shelter in place. no one was hurt and three men arrested. we have big change to tell you about if you're taking metro this weekend that would make a major mess of your travel plans, starting today, the branch avenue and suitland station will be closed for the next two weeks. metro running shuttle buses too and from the naylor road station to help get you around. also, crews are working to stop leaks around the center and buses are running from stratton to grovemore. the message from the special

[ gunshots ]. >> reporter: did the gunman not see the cameras that captured images of them cold-bloodedly shooting towards the bay doors of the gas station, wounding four people, one fatally or did they not care their faces could be clearly seen. >> made me very angry. made me very angry. >> reporter: lisa's son, jarvis, 29, raised and born in the neighborhood did not survive his injuries. he was less than two blocks from home. >> he was really kind to a lot of neighbors around here, help them with their groceries, he would do anything for them. >> reporter: george bell is jarvis' father. >> he was an everyday kind of guy. that's it. it was all about today. he would worry about tomorrow tomorrow.

nsks a couple took a flight to paradise but found themselves in a nightmare. it was a d.c. teacher jennifer jones, she says she and her girlfriend took a vacation to aruba and detained last week after a note that said "bomb" was found in a restroom in their southwest airlines flight. someone said jones was the last to use the facility so authorities questioned the couple and placed them in a cell. they were appointed an attorney but they couldn't call their families or the u.s. embassy. local media published their pictures and called them criminal suspects. the nightmare lasted more than 24 hours. >> i was petrified. this is the most horrific thing that ever happened to me in my life. >> it seems as though there was
