off. >> we have a -- on your tuesday, we have spotty showers on the radar this morning. so have the umbrella on hand. this is in the forecast throughout the day. low clouds and patchy fog. we have light rain around. the green showing where the light rain s all making its way towards baltimore. as we look across the area, now the spotty showers are going to continue. a wider view shows more to the west heading in this direction. that's going to be around as we go through the morning and through most of the middle of the day. here's your wakeup weather. spotty showers, 76 degrees. by 9:00 a.m., about the upper 70s. not too hot today, though. >> check on the roadway. some rain out there. it is unfortunately. that usually tends to make things hairy first thing. sounds like our cleanup of the crash carroll county outside of mt. airy,

blocked only. two left lanes get by the crash. that's updated. new incident with a vehicle that spun out. inbound on the 11th street bridge before you get on to the freeway. the vehicle facing the wrong direction blocked the left lane. crews still working on the rock bridge parkway at the kennedy center. traffic getting by one direction at a time. back to you. jack, thank you. we're following a breaking story involving a police chase. >> justin finch joins us live in southeast. where the pursuit ended. justin, tell us more at this point. >> reporter: eun, aaron, good morning. thaefrt. a police pursuit ending here in southeast. the scene dping to clear. a tow truck has arrived to clear the vehicles. the vehicle that's the focus at this point is a pickup truck. it was smoking a few minutes ago. on scene, we saw two women detained. we're told that at least one is

a juvenile. possibly both are. here's what we know so far from park police. about 3:00 a.m., a police pursuit began involving park police. what was a traffic stop that initiated all of this. and that police pursuit began somehow from that location here to the 2200 block of 19th street southeast. just off fair lawn avenue out here. two women were detained on scene. we saw that here. several were taken away. we also did see more on scene. also awaiting word on what triggered this in the first place. we do know it's a traffic stop. we're unclear as to where it all began. we'll get that for you as we continue our coverage this morning. for now, live in southeast, i'm justin finch. back to you in the studio. >> justin, thank you. 5:03 now. tensions from the violence in charlottesville have grown into action. >>

thousands of protesters chanting "shame" as he returned to trump tower last night. anti-racism rallies have spread from coast to coast. protesters tore down a confederate statue in durham, north carolina. the group cheered as it was ripped from outside a county courthouse. hundreds marched here in the d.c. area last night to voice frustrations with the president's response. >> adam tuss is live at the white house now with the impact this is all having. adam, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, aaron. it was a martha started here at the white house. it ended just a few blocks away at the trump hotel down pennsylvania avenue. take a listen. >> no kkk. no fascist usa. >> reporter: overnight, we also ha

president's advisory council on manufacturing because of the way that the white house has handled the charlottesville situation. of course, so many of us know under armour ceo kevin plank out of baltimore, he says he left the council because under armour engages in sports and innovation, not -- >> the ceo of merck left the council because of the president's reaction after the violence between counter protesters and the white supremacists. president trump tweeted saying that now that ken frazier has resigned from the president's council, he'll have more time to lower rip-off drug prices. we had a third ceo, brian krez nach of intel who stepped down saying he was stepping down in response to the way that the charlottesville situation was handled. a lot of fallout continues a couple of days after the tense tu

we'll continue to follow it here throughout day. back to you. >> adam tuss, thank you. adding to protests, we're seeing new cases of hate in our neighborhoods. >> these reported incidents have police concerned in d.c., maryland and virginia. we'll start in rockville where police are looking into a possible anti-muslim attack on sunday. a man heard a couple speaking in arabic and made anti-muslim comments and physically assaulted the husband. in d.c.'s, capitol hill neighborhood, there was an incident at an aquatic center. a man with swastika tattoos used racial slurs against a young african-american lifeguard. in northeast, a woman returned home sunday and found that someone had ripped down and set fire to her gay pride flag. >> they saw my flag, my gay pride flag. burned and laying on the sidewalk. that's what the police told me. they said there's been a number of incidents in the area since the past weekend. >> you saw there. placed that burned flag one place higher and a posten

window. people came together to pray for peace and tolerance in ashburn, virginia. the violence in charlottesville is taking center stage in late night tv. >> jimmy fallon took a somber approach. >> as kids grow up, they need people to look up to, to show them what's right and good. they need parents and teachers. and they need leaders who appeal to the best in us. the fact that it took the president two days to come out and clearly denounce racist and white supremacist is shameful. i think he finally spoke out because people stood up and said something. it's important for everyone, especially white people, to speak out against this. ignoring it is just as bad as that. fallon pointed out, even though "the tonight show" is not a political show, it's his responsibility to stand up against intolerance and extremism as a human being.

breaking news from north korea. kim jong un has reviewed plans to launch missiles into the waters near guam. he said he's going to watch the, quote, foolish and stupid conduct of the yankees before deciding whether to order the missile launch. president trump spoke with the prime minister of japan last night and the importance of preventing north korea from launching those missiles towards guam. >> angie, thank you. overnight we heard guam's response. we'll stay on top of the story throughout the broadcast. eight minutes after the hour. we want to turn to a case out of fairfax county where a teenager is missing. police have arrested three people for abduction and gang participation. the two men are from alexandria. the girl was arrested and her identity is not released because she's a juvenile. miguel went missing august 3rd. he was associated with gang activity as well. 5:08 now.

united medical center southeast. officials ordered the hospital to stop delivering babies because of what's called dangerous mistakes the hospital staff made with pregnant women and newborns. according to a letter obtained, there were a number of instains that led to the shutdown. it lays out two categories of violations. failure to comply with standards of good medical practice and failure to report a case of hiv infection. it will remain shut down for 90 days or until they have a plan for obstetrics and nursery services. if you live in prince george's county, you may have noticed brown water flowing from your tap. the sanitary commission crews are trying to fix the problem. but officials say it's still safe to drink. you'll notice the brown color if your water comes from the potomac water filtration plant. wssd says it comes from extra manganese in the

angie goff at the live desk. want to take a look at the radar where gert is the second hurricane of the season to form in the atlantic. you can see it there. forecasters saying it's west of bermuda. it's going to get stronger over the next couple of days. no hurricane watches yet in the u.s. but gert is expected to make its way up north making the waters along the north carolina coast very dangerous. i know that's something sheena will keep a close eye on. >> angie, thank you. yeah, angie, we don't have to worry about that. that storm is going to stay out to sea. locally, we're looking at spotty showers in the forecast. for your tuesday commute, spotty showers, even around lunchtime

police. d.c. police are putting the pieces together after an officer involved shooting. this happened near the 2500 block of naylor road around 6:00 last night. >> sources tell news 4 that officers were responding to a call and found three men in a car. one of the suspects allegedly pulled out a gun and that's when the officer fired at that suspect. we're told he should be okay. the suspect's name has not been released why yet. teachers in the district are back in class preparing for the school year and for the first time in five years, they have a contract. the new contract gives them a 9% raise and includes benefits over the next three years. it also creates a way for teachers and the district to deal with issues. d.c. public schools say first new teachers get paid the highest in the nation at $53,000 a year. all teachers could eventually earn a six-figure salary.

service will be held tomorrow for heather heyer. her mom right there saying that she's not angry with the suspect responsible for the crash that killed her daughter on saturday. the mom says she hopes her loss serves a greater purpose. >> i'm very, very sad. but i can't be angry because angry will make me hate and hate only leads to more hate. there's no point to that. heather wouldn't have wanted that either. well, you've seen this iconic photo by now. the crash in charlottesville. now, we're finding out more about the incredible story behind it. the man right there you see in the air, that is marcus martin. it turns out that he had pushed his fiancee out of the way of the path of that car, only to be plowed over by the car himself. the crash left him with a broken leg. in all, 19 people were hurt when that car slammed through the group of counter protesters. many still recovering this morning. n?

5:35 now. here are other top stories. several ceos backed out of the president's american manufacturing council. maryland native and under armour ceo kevin plank announced his departure last night on twitter. he joins pharmaceutical company ceo kenneth frazier and one other who backed out. they were upset the president didn't condemn white nationalists after it turned violent. a woman says she was grabbed and almost sexually assaulted. the frightening incident happened in the middle of the afternoon yesterday near the tall oaks shopping center near north shore drive. fairfax county police are looking for that man. but have limited information. the search is on this morning for whoever sexually assaulted a 5-year-old girl in the alexandria section of fairfax county. someone abducted her around 5:00 sunday night from tower drive near len claire

the capitol. the d.c. firefighter is accused of showing up drunk to help a hurt child. then we're told he was attacked. mark segraves worked to get cell phone video to show part of the incidents. it starts after the firefighter walked out of the child's home and ends before the attack. >> you want me to -- while doing your job. >> you can hear neighbors yelling at the fireman on sunday asking him whether he's drunk. now, he's in the hospital with a broken jaw. the fire department tells news 4 he's already the focus of an internal investigation. it's not clear where the firefighter's partner was during all of this. we're told the child is treated and is okay. want to play a game? that's my game, tony. >> that's one of a frederick county maryland couple is pulling dark pranks on their children. the video shows mike and heather martin screaming and cursing at th
