retirement community. prince george's county police responded to the center in upper marlboro for a welfare check and found a man and woman who were both shot. last check, police are trying to figure out the motive. we will keep you updated. now to the latest out of charlottesville where virginia governor terry mccauliffe and his wife will attend services for the victim. starting with the memorial service for heather heyer this morning, she was killed saturday when a man drove into a crowd on the city's downtown mall. this morning's service is at the paramount theater at 11:00 this morning, the family asks those who attend to wear purple in remembrance of heather. and funerals for two virginia state troopers will also happen this week. their hospital crashed while they were monitoring the weekend protest, not clear why the chopper went down.

virginia, and services for trooper bates are friday. he grew up in prince george's county. and fallout from president trump's response is dominating news and social media feeds again. "new york daily news" going after the president. what he said about the protesters in charlottesville in a stunning news conference, he defaulted back to his argument that both sides were to blame for the violence on saturday. >> i would like to think there's blame, yes, i think there's blame on both sides. you look at both sides, i think there's blame on both sides and i have no doubt about it and you don't have any doubt about it either. and if you reported it accurately, you would say that. >> mr. trump's comments seemingly catching advisers by surprise. one senior white house offl

quote, went rogue. all of it one day after the president denounced groups involved in saturday's violence. and the president also defended his senior strategist, steve bannon, saying he was a good guy, that he wasn't racist. bannon is linked to the alt-right movement. the fallout came fast, lawmakers not holding back comments. republicans as a whole condemning white supremacy, some directly criticizing the president for comments yesterday off the cuff. both sides are calling for real leadership now and to bring love where there is hatred. that was the message last night at a march around the monuments at the national mall. the march was planned before the president's press conference as reaction to violence in

charlottesville. garrett ward reports how marchers say it was a step toward healing the country. >> reporter: as the sun was setting over the nation's capital, hundreds gathered at the jefferson memorial for a walk among the monuments. short trek they hoped would go a long way toward healing and understanding in charlottesville. >> we're coming together just to kind of process what all happened this weekend, staying together as a community. >> reporter: alumni from uva and d.c. area troubled by what happened 100 miles south of here this past weekend, working toward binding the wounds together. >> you bring love where there is hatred, you bring peace where there is discord. >> reporter: hours before the rally, the president was facing criticism for his rhetorical response to charlottesville, both sides were culpable for the violence. >> this is not about donald trump, this is about our community, our university and symbols of hate that

for a park named after 8-year-old martin richards will have it. he was killed when the second bomb exploded near the finish line. his park will be built on the south side near the boston children's museum. it has been a heart wrenching days in sierra leone after mud slides and flooding. many were trapped as they slept. rescuers are searching for people believed to be buried in their homes. the red cross says close to 600 are still missing this morning. more than 300 are dead. even first responders call this story a miracle. a woman survived after spending a month stranded in the woods in alabama a month. she ran into the woods weeks ago, trying to escape two men, ended up getting lost and couldn't find her way out. the 25-year-old survived dr
