-- nothing a krots news 4 nation at this point in time. man, is it a sticky and steamy start to the day. temperatures in the mid to upper 70s this morning. even a heat advisory. heat indexes could be over 100 degrees before the storms get going. >> thank you, chuck. we've got breaking news for you in the wake of the violence in charlottesville. another monument in our area is gone. the statue of roger b. tawny was removed from the maryland statehouse around 2:00 this morning. tawny was a supreme court justice. he wrote the dred scott decision that upheld slavery and denied citizenship to african-americans. the statehouse trust board voted by e-mail wednesday to have it removed. governor larry hogan says it was the right thing to do. we have much more on the latest on the situation in charlottesville in a few more minutes. we're also

news in spain. police killed five suspects after a second attack in that country. this time it happened in the popular seaside resort of cam brils. media reports say a vehicle hit a police car and people nearby. government officials say the five suspects killed were armed with explosive vests. police detonated the explosives and say the suspects are linked to the terrifying van attack in barcelona. barcelona is just to the north of that seaside resort where the first attacks and people running for their lives after a van careened down a sidewalk hitting pedestrians. so far, three people have been arrested but police say the driver still at large. nbc's richard engel explains what happened in the heart of bars loan. >> screams and panic on the most mo

barcelona. an american tourist, jack davie from los angeles recorded as she ran for her life. >> we heard what sounded like gunshots and saw hundreds of people rushing toward them. >> reporter: they were running from a van that plowed into crowds on the street. police responded quickly and in force. shut down the entire neighborhood. >> you don't know. people are screaming. like everyone was just running away. >> reporter: witnesses captured the aftermath. we blurred some of the imagesmeimages. they were too horrific. bodies strewn on the sidewalk, many young. officials calling it an act of terrorism and the manhunt under way for the driver. police say neither was behind the wheel of those arrested isis is now claiming responsibility saying it was carried out by one of

no evidence. but it is only the latest example of the group's supporters using vehicles as weapons. >> the use of vehicles is now the low-tech, high-impact option for terrorists. it's demonstrated value in jihadi circles. >> they're looking at this as a wider plot, related to an explosion in a house. u.s. officials tell nbc news that house may have been a bomb factory. richard engel, nbc news, holond. chopper 4 was over dulles airport after a scare involving a suspicious white van parked in front of the main terminal. everything is back to normal. yesterday, part of that terminal was evacuated as police sent in a robot to check everything out. after searching the van, police did not find anything suspicious. passengers were eventually let back inside and the entire incident lasted about two hours. the mom of a college-bound teen was pleading for her up

forward. last night, hundreds gathered to remember her as the family still searches for answers. >> somebody knows who killed my baby. somebody knows who did it. >> it was a sea of pink at the site of the deadly shooting in northeast. jammari was hit driving down saratoga in broad daylight. she was not the intended target. she died a few days later. she was able to make a big difference in the lives of a few of her mom's friends. >> an officer has been on the transplant list for a while. he received her liver yesterday. quite possibly saved his life. >> wow. her mom is a veteran d.c. police officer. five other officers received life-saving organ donations from her so far. police arrested one person in the shooting, but the

so now back to the latest in the wake of the violence in virginia. one of the virginia state police troopers killed near the violent outbreak in charlottesville will be buried today. the funeral for trooper pilot berke bates will be in richmond. the bates and lieutenant jay cullen were in a chopper that went down saturday. bates was from northern virginia. the funeral for lieutenant cullen will be tomorrow. also in the richmond area. there was no distress call from the helicopter before it crashed and investigators are trying to figure out the cause. today, we expect a major announcement from charlottesville's mayor. he's expected to call for the removal of the robert e. lee statue in downtown today. the unite the night rally supported keeping the statue where it is. our sister station in charlottesville is reporting that the mayor will call for a community meeting how to honor heather heyer who was killed when that rallyne

the world this morning. japan is going to set off an emergency alert system as part of a test this morning. officials are preparing for possible launch of a north korean missile over the country. if north korea aimed a missile toward guam, it would likely fly over some parts of western japan. vice president mike pence is back early from panama to attend a meeting on south asia policy at camp david today. yesterday, he toured the newly expanded panama canal on a trip to latin america. he hailed it as a pathway to prosperity. as the solar eclipse gets closer, folks are really getting creative. many are moving to the areas with the best views, including oregon. some even spent the night inside the portland airport trying to figure out how to get rides to the symbiosis gathering. it's an eclipse gathering nearby. there aren't many rental cars available. so

pass just slashed their subscription price. now, you can go see a month's worth of movies in the theater for ten bucks. that's 30 movies for less than the price of a single ticket. sounds super good but as the report says, there are definitely some skeptics. >> it sounds like a fairytale for movie fans. just as netflix transformed how we watch tv, movie pass is attempting to do the same for going out to the movies. >> this is netflix for the movie theater. >> he's a former netflix executive who started this in 2011. it's an app for a new flick in theaters every day for one monthly fee. it used to cost up to $50 a month. this month it was lowered to ten bucks. meaning customers can see up to 31 new movies a month for the price of a single ticket or less. >> our new price point at $9.95
