president trump's chief strategist fired steve bannon becoming the fourth senior white house official to exit the administration? just the last month. what's next for the white house? we'll get to that over the next few minutes. first, we've got to talk about what storm team four is tracking right now. not only are we're dealing with the extreme heat. it's about to pour out there in some areas, strong to severe storms are moving through over the next couple of hours. >> right on time. doug and amelia standing by in the storm center. this is not the way we're want to start the weekend. >> we're need this in order for us to have a great weekend. that's going to be the case, this line of storms come through here, no warnings just yet, but it's something we'll watch as we're move on through the rest of the night. >> the other part of the weather story, doug and i were just talking. this is probably the most uncomfortable days, so

know we'll bring them to you right here from the storm center. >> now to the breaking news in prince georges county, a family and community stunned today after three children are discovered dead inside a home. >> you may have watched police give us an update a short time ago on the nbc washington app. we're learning more about how old those children were as parents in the neighborhood for their own children's safety. >> any time you have something like this go on, that close to home, you know you've got to worry about stuff like that. >> you can understand the worry. police are now saying this was isolated crime. darcy spencer is live in clinton, still, very much an active crime scene at this hour, dar darcy. >> reporter: it certainly is. police just wrapped up a press conference a short time ago with new information, first we're want to show you where exactly this happened.

you can see that it is still blocked off. there is a prince georges county police cruiser blocking the road. look over to the left a little bit, you see about three houses down, that suv, that is where this investigation is taking place. we're now know all three victims are little girls and they were all under the age of 10. this investigation started at 7:30 this morning when a family member came home and discovered the bodies of those three girls. the police are not saying if the children are related, but they had all suffered trauma to their bodies. neighbor told me she saw police take two men away in handcuffs but police are not confirming that information. they say they're speaking to those who are in the home at the time. like you said, leon, they believe the crime was confined to this house. let's hear from the county state's attorney and police assistant chief who spoke just minutes ago. >> we're woke up again this morning, as hard as it is to yet another nightmare is

station. unclear at this point if it was an accident or if that person actually stepped out in front of the train. trains are single tracking between dupont circle, so you can expect delays in both directions on the red line. trains are not stopping at woodland park at all. there will be shuttle bus there at the station. we'll bring you more information here and on the nbc washington app. more breaking news now about a white house that appears in crisis. since july, four key players have quit or been forced out. the departure of chief strategist steve bannon comes at a rocky time for even the white house. this white house seems engulfed in some kind of drama. 21st of july, sean spicer. on july 28, reince priebus is out after six months making him the shortest service chief of staff. july 31st, anthony is out, he lasted ten days. now steve bannon is out.

this is the beating heart of this city, a pedestrian street that has long been the center of street life here. unfortunately, is now also remembered as the scene of the terrorist attack when yesterday a van came barrelling through here, injurying about 80 others and killing 13 people that turns out to be start of a wave of terrorists attacks. a few hours after that attack, there was a second attack that police this warted. five people in a van started rushing toward crowds, rushing toward police. their van, however, overturned and police quickly shot them dead, killing four right away. the fifth dying a short time later. in their van, according to police, they had knives. they had an ax and they were wearing what police described as fake suicide vests. spanish authorities are investigating this as two connected incidents. they are absolutely calling it terrorism. they say it is gee ha

terrorism. now the street is more crowded. tens of thousands of people have come here. dignitaries, members of the royal family have come to express their sympathy, their support, but also to show that the people here in this city refuse to be terrorized. richard engle, nbc news, barcelona. >> just in, the mayor of charlottesville is calling for an emergency meeting to get rid of the robert e. lee statute. they're calling to call that meeting. they have asked communities in the commonwealth to take down confederate monuments in the wake of the violence. saturday's rally is believed to be the largest gathering of white supremacists in a decade. >> her daughter was killed of protesting, but now heather heyer's mother says she's getting death threats and she's criticizing president trump's

she tells msnbc that the white house has reached out to her three times. earlier today she now has no interest in talking with mr. trump following his comments blaming both sides. despite the threats, she said she refuses to live in fear and working now to keep her daughter's legacy alive. first at 4:00, caught on camera, a wild scene leaves five people, 12 cars smashed. it started on little river turnpike when a man in an suv slammed into cars stopped at a light. it ended with more crashed cars and a man tased in a grocery store parking lot. that's where northern virginia bureau chief julie carey joins us live now. the man's dog was riding shotgun, is that true. >> that's right. in fact, he sort of used his dog, a pit bull, as a shield when he was in a stand off of police out here in the parking lot. you can see right behind me, one of the cars she struck this mo

in and look over at the safe way. you're going to see what use to be a brick column. well, he rammed into that, too. workers have been stripping off the bricks today so no one gets hurt. the big question tonight, what caused this guy to go on a car crash rampage. >> this was the moment when police were finally forced to use a taser on the suspect and take him into custody. his dog was picked up by animal control and this is the demolition derby scene he left behind. it all started around 9:00 this morning when he came speeding down little river turnpike, hitting a pole and crashing into seven cars. he lost the tire on his black suv so he bailed out with the dog and ran into the nearby shopping center. there he entered two banks. he confronted a woman who worked at a nearby bank, a security guard tried to protect her but the suspect stabbed him, got some

around in another vehicle. he struck several more cars and slammed into a pillar in front of the safe way before he finally crashed and came to a stop. employees across the street at a gas station watched the end play out. >> cops were telling them, you know, get on the ground and everything and he still refused. you know, he kept holding the dog, i guess, using that protection. >> he was getting down aggressive. i think they just got to the point where they had to tase him, you know, to get him under control. once they did that, you know, they got him in the handcuffs. >> that bank right there, that's where the security guard who was injured works. he was treated at the hospital for stab wounds and released, that's how i was able to talk to him when he came back to the parking lot. coming up on news 4 at 5:00, you'll hear from two of the people. >> julie carey, thank you, julie. bay bay is a

once again we're going to end the week talking about severe weather. >> we're have a severe thunderstorm watch in effect. we're have a lot of advisories. severe thunderstorm watch in effect until 9:00. east of the blue ridge, that until 2:00 tomorrow morning. we've got the heat advisory in effect as well. you can see what's happening right here with the storm. the line of storms that has developed now, but most of the action, most of the action is from leesburg to the north and east. and you see what i'm talking about, another storm moving in here, parts of upper montgomery county seeing storms. frederick county under the gun. this area has seen very heavy rain fall. i'm going to do it a little bit differently. that was kind of weird. i meant to move on the leesburg area, let me do that right now for you, down towards frederick, this is what we're looking at here, that storm right over downtown frederick, that one has a lot of lightning associa

line all the way up towards west minister and down 270 looking at some rain here around the clarksburg area and over towards barnsville. there was some lightning with this, not a lot of lightning now. some reports of one inch of rain in 15 minutes that could lead to some flash flooding. please be careful, never drive through flooded roadways. that's severe thunderstorm watch until 9:00, includes areas of ocean city back towards the area. look at the line here, the latest picture here showing the line from pennsylvania right on down to around louduon and south of there, not much forming. there's a lot of energy in this area, though. this is something we'll be watching this back area, this line here, will it form as it keeps off to the east. that's something i'll be watching. storm impacts right on to about 8:00, heavy rain fall, could see some hail, possibly an isolated tornado, high wind up to 60 mirch and, of course, extremely he

watch out out there as far as the rain is concerned, it will come down quickly in your area, that's something you need to watch out for. everybody watching out for the heat. 108 in dc. 108 quantico. this is, by far, one of the warmest days we've seen so far this year. look back to the west where we've seen the rain. 78 in winchester. 96 in frederick, that will come down as we're have that rain moving on through the region. we're need this storm to move through before we're can start to see our humidity go away. mostly sunny and warm, not humid. 89 degrees out there tomorrow. both saturday and sunday, nice days, nice and comfortable 89. solar eclipse coming up on monday, high temperatures operating to around 90 degrees as we're move on towards next week, after wednesday looks phenomenal. we'll continue to watch for that. right now tracking any storms that continue to develop. >> all right, glad you mentioned the eclipse. we've got a warning to give you about that, important consumer alert about solar eclipse glasses.

bates grew up in prince william county. traveled to richmond with law enforcement community and bid an emotional farewell. >> this is a story that's been overshadowed in part by the violence in charlottesville and yet here in richmond today, i can tell you, trooper, berk bates. he was among those who was killed and the chopper crashed last saturday. that chopper was responding to the incident in charlottesville when it went down, along with him lieutenant jay, both of them lost their lives. today was the funeral. i've got to tell you inside this baptist church here in richmond, we're heard from several people, among them, you would expect the governor to be at a funeral like this, it was virginia state police officer of what made this so special for the governor was that he knew bates. he worked with him. in fact, bates was assigned to protect the first family for several years so, there were very personal stories that were from the gove,

northern montgomery county, seeing those storms back around leesburg region, too, and then down to the south, we're tracking these, as well. this is max one. take a look at howard county, seeing some heavy rain. showing the wider view here. we've got a couple of storms not just around leesburg, over towards clarksburg, that's where some of the heaviest rain is right along 270. but also now seeing some storms form and become stronger right along 95 around quantico, this storm moving right towards quantico, pretty strong storm here. more storms back towards the west. i'm watching this area right in here, back towards the front, once it makes its way across the mountain, we're could see the storms into parts of northern virginia, that's something

we're analyzing the storms, all the ingredients there are there for really severe weather, at this point we're talking about heavy rain fall. we are expecting to see some this afternoon. take a look at the radar, we'll show you where we are seeing these. the wide view here shows the krar that we're looking at. i'm looking at this region here, this is a line of storms to the north. it kind of breaks off and we're down towards, that's something i'll talk about. here is the heaviest rain. in through howard county, in through montgomery county. a lot of lightning with this area right here between leesburg and gaithersburg, right around poolsville. this will

clarksburg if you see a lot of rain here, watch out for flash flooding, that's probably one of the biggest threats and we're do have a flash flood warning or rather a flash flood watch in effect all night tonight. now, here is the storm i'm watching that's moving through stafford county. look at all the lightning with this. this one could become severe, heads up around quantico, heads up right now around the white water area, this is moving your way and then back to the west, this is the one that has -- the most concerned around lorain. this is increeding and his -- increasing. as it moves into unstable air, we'll see this storm most likely develop. this could be the first one that goes severe, could see a severe thunderstorm warning at the one in quantico, this could really have a lot of area and look how much of the region surevere thunderstorm watch, all the way up towards new york city. we'll continue to watch that. also right now. if you're thinking about heading outside. it's the heat index, one of the highest we've seen all year. >> because of that, doug, er

advisory until 8:00 this evening. this is especially for the dc and baltimore areas. take a look all the areas shaded here in orange. when you factor in the humidity that is like tropical air right now, it's feeling about 108 degrees in washington, 104 in manasas and we're seeing some rain cooled temperatures to the north and west. after this, doug, we're looking at a really, really nice weekend. >> you notice that 108, that's the heat and humidity together, that's the energy that the storms need to really develop and that's what we'll continue to watch for. now, tomorrow, much different. the humidity goes away. this frontal boundary moves through. 89 both tomorrow and sunday, a little bit above arch, lower humidity. 90 degrees, solar eclipse on monday, looking good for that. may have to lower this. we're had 88 yesterday. i think we're going back to 88. chance of storms on wednesday, some of those could be on the strong side and pretty strong front moves through and then look what it gives us, sunsh

and then another storm, and this is the one that really watching, yes, this one could go severe, small storm. this one is a bigger complex of storms that's moving into a very unstable atmosphere, east of the blue ridge and once it hits, i think it's going to be able to develop, too. that's something that we're going to be watching. you see these moving to the north. storms just to the south of fairfax. so everybody under the gun over the next two to three hours and most of this is out of here by around 7, 8:00 tonight. we'll update you on that, areas in the pink, including most of our region under severe thunderstorm watch. any warnings happen, we'll bring them to you right away. >> thank you, doug. and remember when severe weather strikes, you can get the power of storm team 4 on your phone, open up the nbc washington app. now, to a crime scene so difficult, counseling was offered to police officers on site. >> many of those officers are parents and the discovery left them shaking.
