and then another storm, and this is the one that really watching, yes, this one could go severe, small storm. this one is a bigger complex of storms that's moving into a very unstable atmosphere, east of the blue ridge and once it hits, i think it's going to be able to develop, too. that's something that we're going to be watching. you see these moving to the north. storms just to the south of fairfax. so everybody under the gun over the next two to three hours and most of this is out of here by around 7, 8:00 tonight. we'll update you on that, areas in the pink, including most of our region under severe thunderstorm watch. any warnings happen, we'll bring them to you right away. >> thank you, doug. and remember when severe weather strikes, you can get the power of storm team 4 on your phone, open up the nbc washington app. now, to a crime scene so difficult, counseling was offered to police officers on site. >> many of those officers are parents and the discovery left them shaking.

age of ten found dead inside their home in prince georges county. >> parents in that neighborhood refused to let their own children out of their site. >> i can't even go to work today because, i have a child here and it's a murderer out here. >> family members made the discovery this morning at the home on brook jane drive that's in clinton. darcy spencer talked to neighbors this afternoon and has their reaction. darcy. >> well, jim, i can tell you it's been a very difficult day here in prince georges county, not only for that family, but for residents. as you said, for police, as well. let me show you where this investigation is taking place just off the street here, the third house there on the left and a neighbor tells me that police took away two men in handcuffs from the house earlier today. police are saying no arrests have been made at this point. we're begin our story tonight with a neighbor who says he's so upset today he had to take off

the fact that there are three children dead in my neighbor. >> james lives on the same children where the children were found dead. three little girls all under the age of ten had suffered trauma to their bodies. he saw a woman outside and she was distraught. >> looking into her face and she said that they're dead, just those words were chilling and now to know that they're kids. >> investigators collected evidence inside the home on brook jane drive in clinton. they say the crime was confined to this home and they're speaking to those who were inside. a family member made the horrible discovery after arriving at the house 7:30 in the morning. >> it's sad -- it's heartbreaking. >> reporter: in the backyard you can see a trampoline, a little basketball hoop and a girl's bike. a neighbor told me she saw the children playing here every day and they were happy. this mom is a neighbor with small children of

baby's like that. i wouldn't know to do. >> the police department offered counseling to officers to cope with one of the most difficult scenes they encounter on the job. >> those that responded here today are parents, uncles and siblings of young children that they care for and love very much. we're all feel this loss. >> they're promising to figure out what happened inside the house and who is responsible for taking these young innocent lives. and so far police have not identified the children who are found inside this home this morning. back to you. >> just awful. darcy spencer, darcy, thank you, the deaths of these three young children is just the latest example of violence against kids in that community. prince georges county is seen share of domestic violence cases over the last several months. >> this latest examples has leaders there calling for change. news 4 jackie bens

our team coverage this evening with how the county is trying to fight domestic violence. jackie. >> reporter: well, wendy, among those who responded here to this horrific scene was prince georges county states attorney angela, we're have a little bit of video that we're want to show you. now, police are not confirming that the killing of these little girls is domestic related, but statistics show, the vast majority of murders of children in prince georges county over the last five years were by people they knew or were related to. here is what angela alsobrooks had to say. >> there are some families who are experiencing what no parents had to experience. they are not alone in their grief. we are grieving together but we are confident that this investigation will be well handled. >> now, domestic-related murders of women and children in prince georges county had been the highest in the state in recent years

and chief of staff general john kelly. it's just the latest friday farewell and the trump administration, press secretary sean spicer left back on july 21st, the following friday we're learned reince priebus was out as chief of staff. now, today, bannon bomb shell. there was one exception to that friday rule with anthony, stint as communications director, ending on monday, july 31st. that didn't last long, you'll recall. nbc's kristin spoke with a high-level source today inside the white house about bannon's departure. >> reporter: bottom line, i have been told that there were a number of factors that went into this decision, ultimately, it was believed this was the best move for the president's agenda and for the administration to move forward, this source, essentially, acknowledges that steve bannon could be a big distraction for this president and for getting things accomplished. now, how did this all go down. we're know that general john kelly was con

from triangle. robertson is accused of leaving a trail of wreckage that began little river turnpike. his path stops a few blocks away. our bureau chief julie carey is live at the shopping center where it all came to an end, julie. >> reporter: hi, jim, well look over there. that use to match that brick pillar, but workers had to tear down the bricks after this guy crashed into it today. you think that would stop him, but he hit at least a dozen cars, including this one right here before he finally crashed his car in the parking lot. now, he is in the hospital tonight and what we're don't know is what caused him to drive his car speeding downturn pike in the first place. >> it looked like a scene from a movie car chase, 8 vehicles smashed up, bumpers litteringty the street. the car tire on the grass. the black jeep liberty and the center of this cluster cng

came speeding up from behind striking cars stopped at the light. >> i know it's -- i sit there. i brace for impact and it hits our car. it wasn't too bad with us, but i see like that he seriously damaged other cars. >> i mean, it was shattering impact. there was smoke in my car for the air bag deployment. it pushed me over to the left side and i think i hit another vehicle. >> crash victims watched as the suspect bailed out with his dog and began running down the street. >> he immediately gets out of his car. i hear, i hear him say not me, not today. he picks up his pit bull and he starts running down the road with the pit bull in hand. >> it wasn't long before there was more mayhem and more crashed cars at the little river shopping center. the suspect approached the woman heading to work at the bank, demanding her keys. she ran to the bank security guard for help. he tried to reason with the suspect but says the man pulled a knife, cutting his hands, taking the keys. gas station workers watched from across the

into a -- get into a car and then backed up, hit a couple of cars and hit the pillar on safe way and then came flying through over a median and actually hit a parked car sitting at the stop sign. >> this cell phone video shows the suspect on the ground holding his pit bull as a sort of shield, officers negotiating to get him to surrender. >> he kept holding the dog using that protection. >> but the man refused to comply. you can see on the video, the moment police decide to use a taser to separate him from the dog and take him into custody. the dog picked up by animal patrol. and no -- no word yet on charges against the suspect. back to you now in the studio. >> an emotional weekend here, and for law enforcement across the country, as they say good-bye to two virginia state police officers, both of those troopers killed in a chopper crash just ahead on news 4. i'm going to take you

>> i'm sergeant on highway patrol. >> they filed into this richmond church to honor trooper bates born and raised in prince williams county. ever since the age of two trooper bates was working his dream job last saturday. he and lieutenant jay flying above the protest in charlottesville when suddenly something caused their chop tore crash both men killed. >> we're loved your husband. and we're love your family. >> governor and his family share a unique connection to bates for several years bates protected virginia's first family. the governor remembering a speech he was about to give. bates urgently telling him to keep it to six minutes. >> which explains all the hockey jerseys here. bates' other passion, he coached his

patients are nancy recovered fully after six-day stay in the hospital. she's still exercises but she gives spin class a pass. and she wants to get the word out about this illness. >> it's really important to me that people are aware of this condition. >> so how can you prevent it, start a new exercise program gradually. if you feel like you're in over your head, well take a break, walk away. and that goes for your kids, too. all those young people starting with the fall sports practices after a summer off. this can be an issue for them. and beware of significant changes in the color of your urine, because that is such a key warning sign, you know what i thought

severe storm and trailing into howard and montgomery county. this will move in as well. and then this storm, take a look at what's coming through the dc metro area. right through the district. right through alexandria. down at the airport seeing some pretty good rain. some of the rain on the heavy side. watch out. we're could see some flash flooding that's something we'll watch for. these are moving to the north. this will be right through downtown. . this is starting to spread out, intensifying just a little bit in some areas you see the line here all the way down from the luoduon county area. that's severe thunderstorm watch. look how close we are to the severe weather. the yellow is severe thunderstorm warnings and we're have warnings now just to the north all the way down to baltimore, that line, however, has not been able to make itself itself complete through dc.

weather just yet. may not see a lot of severe weather. bigger issue could be flash flooding. we've got a lot going on heads up there. flash flood warnings in towards baltimore, up towards portions of harper county, as well. most of the region under flash flood watch until 2:00. that could be a big issue as we're head on through. the biggest issue will be the heavy rain. high winds out there. isolated reports of hail, maybe a small chance of a tornado. this is all high winds and heavy rain fall, right until about 8:00 tonight. look at the heat index. it was 108 in dc. now we've got the storm coming overhead. that will help to cool things. 75 as we've seen that rain move in across our region. mostly sunny, warm, but not humid, the humidity levels behind this system really go down. i think weekend looking great. solar eclipse day on monday, high temperatures upper 80s to around 90. 91 on tuesday. chance of storm on wednesday. that fro

new severe thunderstorm warning, the first one of the afternoon, we've been talking about this storm. severe thunderstorm warning for charles county. and that until 6:15. associated with this storm, some hail and may be reported with this storm, as well. it's moving very close, if you live near laplata watch out for this storm. you can see it's making its way around waldorf and just south on this track, be around the l la plata area, st. charles at around 5:54. we'll continue to keep you posted more storms coming on through the region. this one, too, could move through prince georges and that one i'm watching,

any more warnings pop up, i'll bring them to you, first. >> the california man who was killed in barcelona, was separated from his wife for just moments when the van ran through the crowds. they were celebrating a wedding anniversary. today a larger than usual crowd gathered, the scene of that attack to show support for those victims. what is disturbing is that the victims on that plaza had little, if any protection, on that open street and security experts called these soft targets. >> news 4 mark segraves spoke to experts today who say the threat is real and now is the time for all of us to step up our game. mark. >> yeah, it's exactly right, jim, you know, i talked to the security expert today, he said it's no longer good enough, if you see something to say something. he said given the current climate in the country and the world, he says, now, you have to say something before you see something. >> as we're go into the new

around laurel, make sure you stay inside your house and make sure you're doing it here. strong winds associated with this line, this line is continuing, now. we're may see more storms continue to develop. the other severe thunderstorm warning, again, down towards laplata we'll continue to keep you posted on all the weather going on this afternoon right here from the storm center. we are also watching another breaking situation, this news just coming into the newsroom, virginia's governor taking a stand in an effort to better protect people at controversial monuments. we're learned issued an executive order today temporarily haunting permits and monument in richmond. what you're seeing here is video from a protest at the statute earlier this week. this order will stay in effect until new emergency regulations have been approved and implemented by the state. in light of what happened in charlottesville over the weekend, the governor says if he wants to formulate a plan to protect first amendment right and at the same time prevent rights of public safety.
