mural. >> i thank you. >> news4's derrick ward now live at the mural this morning talk with some of gregory' fans. he was a real trail blazer. >> reporter: he was. he was not local but he made this his home. there's already an impromptu memorial, his '68 album, he tackled subjects like black progress and assassination, and that was dick gregory. he passed away last night at the age of 84 at the hospital and was surrounded by members of his family. he had been there for about a week. he had symptoms of heart failure

right now hundreds of firefighters still battling a lightning-sparked fire in oregon where hundreds of homeowners have been evacuated. flames have been raging at the three sisters wilderness area for a week now and so far none of the fire has b

firefighters have been working to get water to areas they can't access. a shelter has been set up at a local school and there's a place for pets to go. crews are hoping the cooler temperatures and higher humidity will help them in their effort to put out the flames. if you are waking up hoping to be a millionaire, you are out of luck. maybe you are a millionaire and you just didn't win the powerball. there was no jackpot winner in last night's powerball drawing and that means the prize is even bigger. get this. $650 million. that's the third largest jackpot in u.s. history, and the prize continues to grow. the next drawing comes up on wednesday. good luck. the time right now, 9:10. clouds might make a big impact on your view of the eclipse. lauryn is

welcome back. it's a decision that has some d.c. officials scratching their heads. michael brown is scheduled to give a series of speeches about ethics to employees. here's the catch. back in 2013 brown admitted to taking $55,000 in cash from undercover

are still mourning, including the widow of american, jared tucker. >> my life. what am i going to do? it's not a matter of not being able to be independent, um, but i don't want -- i don't want to do that without him. >> jared tucker and his wife were in spain celebrating their one-year wedding anniversary. his sister says he also leaves behind three daughters. and then the police shootings in florida, a second officer died yesterday after being shot after a scuffle with the suspect. the suspect is arrested and now facing charges. the shooting happened the same night when two other officers in jacksonville were hurt in a shooti t

grazed by a bullet in the district. he was taken to the hospital last night around 8:00. there was a shooting on 41st street in southeast not far from the fort davis recreation center. so far no suspects have been identified, and police say the boy should be okay. commotion inside a d.c. library that ended with a stabbing. our news partner reports somebody was arrested after an assault inside the library in shaw. an argument at a computer escalated and continued into a bathroom and that's when they say one person pulled out a pen knife and the pair struggled over it and both were cut and taken to the hospital and both have minor injuries. it's not every day you hold a party when a road project wraps up, but one neighborhood plans to do that to celebrate part of the brand new beach drive that is going to open shortly. a block party

welcome back. one week after the violence in charlottesville, they came together for peace. organizers said the goal was to fill the downtown area with poetry and music and love. the community came together for a moment of silence to remember heather heyer who was killed when a car slammed into a crowd of people. and then a

>> thank you. because there's no humidity. thank goodness. it's actually flat today. as we continue through tomorrow that's when we see a rise in the humidity, and the humidity and heat will be with us through the next couple of days. today, enjoy, the humidity still on the low side. we have changes in the forecast for the eclipse, and we have cooler weather on the way. i am talking 70s. 70s for daytime highs at the end of august. we don't ever get that kind of weather around here, but it has been an odd summer, hasn't it? temperatures are in the 70s at this point. if you are headed to the pool, no rain to worry about today. plenty of sunshine. temperatures warming up to 90 degrees. might be a good day to get out to the pool. nothing showing up on radar. if you are traveling and headed down to the path of totality for the solar eclipse, that means you are headed southbound. no clouds and nothing happening on the radar n
