newscast, but first as dan schenamen shows us jerry lewis' philanthropy was just as famous as his showmanship. >> lady. >> lady. >> in his heyday there was no bigger hit than jerry lewis. the rubber-faced funnyman was a true entertainer and the slapstick star of stage, cinema and television. >> confused, unbalanced young man with only one thought in mind. self-destruction. >> lewis first found fame at 20 when he teamed up with singer dean martin in 1946. >> and now the dean and martin and jerry lewis show. >> martin and lewis enjoyeded a smashing ten-year run, making hit movies in between engagements at nightclub, on television and radio. but it was after the act broke up that jerry lewis became a hollywood force. >> i get paid for doing what children get punished for. >> in 1959 he signed the largest contract in film history with paramount studios, it

county. the girls just 6 and 9 years old. their mother tragically finding them stabbed to death in their home in clinton. tonight, we are hearing from the family of one of those girls. news 4's darcy spencer has our story. >> reporter: this is the happy face of 6-year-old nadiara withers, here sitting in the salon with a fresh new look and here with her dad. her stepmom tells me she had dinner and went shopping with her dad thursday. he had no idea that that would be the last time he'd see his beautiful daughter alive. on friday morning she was found stabbed to death inside her home in clinton in prince george's county along with her two cousins, 6 and 9-year-olds visiting from new jersey. nadiara's own 25-year-old brother. police say he'd been watching the girls while nadiara's mom was working. she found the bodies when she

antonio williams confessed to killing the three little girls, but they still don't know why. nadiara's stepmom had also sent a video to her dad the day before showing herself in the sky and she told him she loved him, words he's holding on to now as he deals with this unspeakable loss. >> friends, neighbors and even complete strangers have been showing up giving flowers, balloons and cards in remembrance of these little girls. police are telling us that williams is being held without bond. he apparently had no prior criminal record and there were no calls for service before these murders. in clinton, darcy spencer, news 4. >> developing right now. president trump getting ready for a prime time address to the nation. the president will discuss his plan for afghanistan, in his speech tomorrow night. trump will speak at fort meyer military base in arlington at 9:00 tomorrow night. the

considering sending more troops to afghanistan and you'll see the president's address right here on nbc 4. investigators say a fire killed a mother and her two small children in baltimore county early this morning. firefighters found the woman and her 4 and 3-year-old in a bedroom in hillandale and they died at the hospital. the fire started on the third floor and it just spread. authorities say the fire was an accident and they think it started in the kitchen. one person is dead and another fighting for his life after a double stabbing in southeast d.c. police tell us anthony graham was killeded on xenia street last night. another man rushed to the hospital. we are now trying to find out about a possible suspect and what led to the violence. eight people are in the hospital after a metro bus crashed in chinatown this afternoon. this happened on h street. the bus appears to have jumped the curb and knocked over a motorcycle. nobody on the curb was hurt. the dri a

moving to a new building can be a pain, but try moving the building itself? the whole thing. that's what happened right here last night on wisconsin avenue in bethesda. so what you're looking at, moving trucks taking the entire store down the street. it was so big it had to be cut in two for the move. so this building used to be a paint and hardware store. developers wanted to move it to free up space. it has now been put back together and it's sitting at its new home on middleton lane. so, success. >> it's not every day that you have a party because road construction is done, but this neighborhood in northwest d.c. is celebrating the brand-new beach drive. the work from tilden street to rock creek parkway is now finished. there is a new staircase and crosswalk that goes to the national zoo and the flashing signal to help out pedestrians. the national park service threw today's block party. >> we want to

palpable out there. i am so geeked up about this. in fact, i've skipped tonight's forecast and gone to the eclipse forecast. we'll stay quite as we head into the remainder of the night tomorrow. temperatures will be 90 degrees and it will be hot out there. we will see a good amount of sunshine coming through. we do have this chance and it's an isolated thunderstorm activity with showers as we head throughout the evening, but for now that peak time for us which will be around 2:42. ch p.m. and we'll experience 82% of blockage and it's looking pretty good. partly sunny conditions and it's not until we move toward the end or the afternoon when that eclipse starts to round off at 4:02 p.m. that we see the chance of showers. don't forget, and the first of those is to use the proper eyewear. can't stress enough. don't look at the sun with the naked eye and make sure you have those eclipse

out of the north helping you to feel very comfortable. lower humidity than we saw at the end of last week. sunny condition, if you're headed out this evening we'll continue to ride this wave. temperatures into the 70s as we head into the overnight hours and very comfortable and not expecting disturbances this evening and clouds will build and humidity does rise for your monday. 9:00 p.m., still quiet and just after 2:00. notice how we do have clouds in the area and out to the west out toward the i-81 corridor and we'll be watching the chance for showers and thunderstorm development. moving into the evening around 5:00 p.m., that's the greatest chance to see it. if you're an evening commuter you might be running into isolated showers anda i few rumbles tomorrow evening and we dry things out in time for tuesday. >> here's a look at your fitness

lingering toe injury and the tight end activated off the physically unable to perform and last night a first, long look at kirk cousins and the redskins' starting offense preseason after playing the entire first half. a good thing for cousins who has a lot of new targets to get accustom to and terrell pryor senior with the 11-yard reception and josh dotson with the redskins hurt almost all of last year coming off a hamstring injury at camp, and then jamieson crouder coming back from a hamstring injury had a touchdown this season. and getting on the same page as his receiver and something cousins is making a priority this preseason. >> it's an example that we're not where we need to be and we have time and we have to get out in the practice field and get out in the preseason games and get out and start to build some rapport, because we'll need
