wreck. and we are now less than 24 hours away from the peak of our solar eclipse. i'll have a look at the viewer conditions. plus we'll tell you how you can get your hands on some of those glasses at the last minute. ten american sailors unaccounted for tonight after a collision at sea. good evening, i'm kristen wright in for erica gonzalez. the missing crew members were onboard the uss john mccain. it collided with a merchant ship off the coast of singapore. the u.s. military says along with the missing sailors five others were hurt. the destroyer was heading to singapore for a routine port visit. this is the second collision involving a

region in two months. seven sailors died when the uss fitzgerald hit a container ship in june. woodrow wilson was in the white house. the post office had just started shipping by mail, and a half-gallon of milk cost just a quarter. 1918 was the last time a solar eclipse swept from coast to coast. and we have coverage tonight. we begin with weather. how does it look? >> no, we are looking at some decent conditions. i want to get zrstraight to the forecast. check it out. temperatures will be around 88 degrees. still pretty hot as we head throughout the day. now, clouds will be building throughout the day. so you

but it's actually a little observatory. it's going to be capturing the eclipse for everyone to see. the national air and space museum will be one of the hot spots to view the eclipse. they've got a public observatory, and they'll be handing out solar protection glasses so you can watch safely. >> don't kbat corners here, because they can really damage your eyes if they don't have the right coatings. >> reporter: this bovatory will capture the eclipse. it'll be open to the public, and you can watch on viewing screens as well. the tire country just like this one, will experience a great solar eclipse. and people ipthat band of territory will experience a magnificent experience. >> reporter: she says kids will also be able to create pinhole art. the idea, allow sunlight to pass

plan at fort meyer in arlington. well, people are paying their respects for comedian jerry lewis today who died at the age of 81. it's what lewis did outside of hollywood he may be remembered best for. >> reporter: in his day there was no bigger hit than jerry lewis. a true entertainer. the slapstick star of stage and television. lewis first found fame at 20 when he teamed up with singer dean martin. martin and lewis enjoyed a smashing ten-year run making hit movies in between engagements at nightclubs, television and radio. but it was after the act broke up that jerry lewis became a

of the big day. this is in kansas, missouri. people lined up outside after the owner got 10,000 pairs of the glasses, and word spread quickly. if you don't have those glasses, our chief meteorologist is there. >> reporter: we made it to clec clemson. they're expecting people all over kansas. as a matter of fact, they're going to be giving out 50,000 pairs of those glasses. you quo those ones that are so hard to find, they'll have them right here. and that board will have the count down. and we will be here live throughout much of the day tomorrow. i've got some live interviews for you.

monday. 77 degrees in the district right now. 73 down towards manassas. and as we head throughout the night, mostf us staying around the 730 degree mark. some of us dropping to the upper 60s. let's talk about tomorrow as far as rain chances go. so i pushed the future weather to about 3:00 p.m. this is around the time we'll be reaching that peek for the solar eclipse. notice how we've got a lot of cloud cover mg. it's a little later after that. so it'll really be impacting that evening commuter. if you're going to be heading home around 6, 8:00, you might be getting a few isolated showers. here's a look at that commute. we are going to be seeing temperatures of mid to upper 80s. temperatures in the 70s. because by midday we're talking

well, this week the u.s. botanical garden is giving you extra time to take in the flowers. but you might want to hold your noise. the flowers can bloom at any moment, which is why the garden will extend it until 10:00 p.m. when the next flowers boom. so we've got to talk about weather for tomorrow because the eclipse is happening, and we all want to see it. it's going to be really fun. >> i know. it's going to be super excit
