different scene -- just wow. this is pretty phenomenal. >> yeah. absolutely. you know, you play back that video. i sound like a 14-year-old girl at justin bieber concert. that's the excitement i was feeling that's the way everybody felt. not only was i screaming there and it's so excited. the entire crowd. we're had thousands of people here and when that hit, when you saw that last little bit of the sun go away and all of a sudden we were in totality. all of a sudden it got dark like that. it was like somebody turned on a switch and off the switch, all of a sudden, we were in darkness. take a look at this video we're shot here. this is time lapse of it. you can see what was going on. we're had a little bit of sunshine. you see it getting gradually darker. then it gets almost completely dark. they're trying to take pictures of it, that was the only light that you saw, was

people's phones as they were trying to take those pictures. it was two minutes and 37 seconds of totality here. but i got -- i can't wait to see it again. i really just cannot wait to see it again. it was that cool to see that and to come all the way down here to south carolina. not a single person was disappointed. wow, what an experience that was. can't wait to see it again. we're only have to wait seven years to see it. now up in your area, 82% totality, not bad. by the way it just finished here as we were on the air. we're going to go to the space mu ze yum. -- pretty good show in your region, too. >> reporter: oh, yeah. very good showing, absolutely. you know what, everybody where i was standing just a little while ago was just thrilled and just focused on the sun

moon and what it was doing. someone said to me here on the mall, the best part of being here today is being together and seeing the same thing at the same time. i have to agree. you've got that, you know, that feeling of unity, it takes special things like this to feel. if you missed it, look now, the eclipse as seen in washington. we're used a special filter on the camera so we're could show it to you. at the peak, it covered about 82% of the sun and people absolutely loved it. the fact the eclipse is a once in a lifetime experience, it was not lost on anybody out on the mall today. they told us, it's so special to them to be a part of history. >> so you can see the moon overlapping the sun. and it's -- you can only see half of both the

morning. he'll spend 75 years behind bars on federal charges now. earlier this year he pleaded guilty to taping or abusing at least 20 young people, some of them as young as 90 years old. he said he is not a monster. he still love the victim's families. despite the sentence, they said she wants a local trial, too. >> next thing that happens is we're have to do everything in our power to make sure there is no other deonta care away. >> he has an iq of 62, basically, that of a young boy. they argue he was abused himself when he was younger and didn't understand what he was doing. he's set now to go to trial next month. high drama inside and outside of prince georges county courtroom today. >> you're going to go to jail. >> get the camera out of her

face. >> the family of a murder suspect after scheduled bond hearing inside court. a judge stopped that hearing after some strange outbursts by the suspect. antonio williams is accused of stabbing his six-year-old sister and their two young cousins last week. tracee wilkins is live. tracee, really intense moments today in court. >> absolutely, when you're dealing with a case like this that is as emotional and difficult as this one. there is no telling what you're going to find inside of the courtroom. this was suppose to be a competency hearing and first appearance, for williams. we're looking at three dead little girls here. his little sister, a six-year-old and cousin, six-year-old and nine-year-old. all three of them allegedly stabbed to death by him. we're had both sets of parents who appear to be on

sides of the courtroom here, again, no one prepared for what we're experienced inside of that courtroom. >> when antonio williams first entered the courtroom, he was yelling and that's my mom. that's my mom. after he was seated, he said, he's here, no, no, no, no, no. the judge asked williams to focus and she tried to begin the hearing, that's when he begin repeating, i'm not the one you're looking for, i'm not the one you're looking for. the judge ruled for mental evaluation saying it was obvious that williams was incapable of a hearing today as he was escorted out of the courtroom saying, mommy love you, i'm here. mommy is here, baby. that incited the fathers to yell across the courtroom with her. there was a brawl holding them back from the mother of the defendant, who was also the mother of one of the victims. >> one dad said, she's suppose to burry me and

understand how to move forward and to bury the baby he expected to be able to bury him. and so the mother, in the case, of course, came and -- of the defendant and made comments that really did incite further pain. >> reporter: so the deputies escorted the mother and the folks who were with her out of the courtroom. we were shooting them as they exited and that is when they lunged at my photographer who was getting video, along with other photographers, as well. they had to actually cross the street to have this confrontation with our news 4 photographer, shoving the camera at one point, cursing and yelling at him at another point. it was -- it was an unbelievable scene. at one point the mother of the victim picked up a tree branch and tried to throw at the photographer, family members had

[000:09:59;00] it was very disturbing to watch. but there was so much anger inside of that courtroom, that they had to separate the families, allowing the mother and the people who were with her to leave out first and then giving the fathers of the girls who died some time to sit down and talk with the state's attorney and then they were escorted out of a separate entrance. it looked like the fathers got most upset when the mother was saying to the son, i'm here, i love you. they were angry and feeling like that somehow meant that she was not there for the little girl who was killed. very complicated and a difficult case. the state's attorney says this is one of the most difficult days and difficult cases they've ever handled. reporting live in upper marlboro, i'm tracee wilkins back to you all in the studio. >> massive search and rescue operations underway for ten missing u.s. sailors. they disappeared after the uss mccain collided with an oil tanker.

thunderstorms out there this slow-moving storm. with all of the rain we've had already, we're getting more. scattered storms continues, sun set at 7:54 that's when we'll decide to wind down. it's about the heat and humidity, with the humidity feeling over 100 degrees in many locations tomorrow afternoon. i will not be surprised if parts of the metro area were issued a heat advisory. it's looking like fabulous. still tracking the severe thunderstorm warning, mainly, la plata, this is going to go until 4:30. you can see it's getting very heavy rain fall, right now, potentially a little bit of hail in that storm as well. tracking another cell up around the rothville area, this is heading towards gaithersburg. moving into oakdale at about 4:25. and then sandy spring just after 4:30. this is the activity we're

tracking. here is the wider im thunderstorms that extends through parts here and prince william counties into fairfax county is barely moving. it's going to be this area including warrant ton where i'm going to be concerned about flooding. we'll have some storms around this evening, patchy fog as well. very humid with temperatures in the 80s. this is tomorrow with the humidity at lunchtime. it's already feeling close to 100 degrees. look at 2:00, it is oppressive. it's uncomfortable feeling about 103 degrees. tomorrow night it's very hot and humid. to you do have to be outdoors, you want to make sure you're drinking plenty of water and taking lots of breaks. at least it will be a nice breeze to make it feel a little bit better. late day thunderstorms also around for your tuesday evening. afternoon hours are looking mainly dry. i'm going to run through, 5:00 p.m. we're seeing thunderstorms fire in western and northern maryland and parts into northern

can we're go to max one, guys and show you what's going on. we've been looking at. again, heavier storms coming down through charles county and into southern maryland, there's a line of storms going all the way back, let's zero this on some of the storms. severe thunderstorm warning has now been cancelled. it expired at 4:30. we're not seeing that severe weather out there. just because it dropped below, still strong storms. really a nice little downpour right around la plata, all the way up. so, again, this is moving off to the east. we're will see some of these locations as we're continue over the next hour before it moves off to the eastern shore. again, we'll be watching some of the pop up storms and everybody is going to have equal chances as we're continue through the evening. we're believe that threat will end at about 8:00 tonight. we'll have more on the heat and humidity, if you thought today was hot. wait until tomorrow. that's coming up in just a little bit. >> thanks, the story of the day, of course, is this scene played

a students from washington into his backyard today. the observatory. what do you have? >> well, angie, i mean, whether you're in awe of what you saw today or feel as if you really missed something truly special. you'll have another chance to see some of these natural wonders. about 18 months from now, we're will see a total lunar eclipse. and as the earth passes between the moon and the sun, we'll have a great view right here in our area. it's doing to come in a view just before midnight and martin luther king, jr. day. so plenty of can stay up late without trying to get to work or school the next day. so, your next chance to see a total solar eclipse, that is going to come in 2024.

now we' phase, but as you saw today, even 80% can be pretty darn impressive. you can make plans to be in dallas, cleveland or buffalo for the absolute best view. now, hate to say it. but i'm going to be in my 70s by the time the next big wave is passing by. if we're all still living here, we'll have several chances to see in the 2040s. and then that total eclipse, that 2045, the moon is going to block the sun for over six minutes. that's more than twice as long as what we're saw today. again, we're going to get a pretty good partial view of it in dc, maryland, and virginia. again, when you look at all of this, let me take that back, there we're go. today was the first solar eclipse that the entire world truly got to share on social media. it's pretty amazing to wonder,

60 miles an hour and potential as we're hop on to storm team 4 radar you'll see some strong thunderstorms down in parts of virginia and you can see that thunderstorm down there, that severe thunderstorm, also some very heavy rain fall still impacting parts of southern maryland. that use to be severe thunderstorm that's south of waldorf. this is going to be the area where we're see the severe thunderstorm warning. it's going to be for this area right here. we'll continue to keep an eye on that heavy rain fall. it was falling in parts, that storm just fizzled out. you can see right where that severe thunderstorm warning is, right around the wood bridge area, along 95 and route 1, we're seeing a downpour and potential for gusty winds and quarter size hail. wildly scattered storms south of the district. it is hot and humid out there. take a look at current temperatures. 90 in fredericks.

ou a man in shelby, virginia, savoring very special weekend. stuart just turned 100 years old. his family threw him a big party on saturday. big part of his party, pinky stuart, she's been with him for 78 years and she's 102. they got married in 1939 and their family says they are still very much in love. now, we're asked what he wanted for his birthday, his answer, good health and he thanked the lord for his wife who he says is the reason for him being around for 100 years. >> love will do the body good. >> right? >> absolutely. we were saying that the eclipse was once in a lifetime experience, for him, it was a twice in a lifetime. >> you think about it, 78 years, being married 78 years or making it to 100.
