most we are talking about the heat and how it's going to feel like triple digits with the full forecast. you definitely want the sun block. by noon, 91 degrees. already feeling around 100 by the afternoon. around 96. feeling close to 103. a few spots maybe a degree or two hotter. very little rain relief. huge cooldown on the forecast. >> sheena, see you in a bit. thank you. a new -- president laid out his plan and is getting a lot of reaction this morning. democrats and republicans are divided. overall, the president reversed his past calls for a quick exit and recommitted to that 16-year-old war. while the president didn't offer many specifics, he did promise a

a clear definition. attacking our enemies, obliterating isis, crushing al qaeda, preventing the taliban from taking over afghanistan and stopping master roar attacks against america before they emerge. >> the president didn't discuss additional troops in his speech but it is likely the new strategy means several thousand more troops in afghanistan. today, president trump is heading to phoenix, arizona, where police are preparing for large protests. city leaders voiced concerns that the rally comes too soon after the violence in charlottesville. police are concerned about clashes between the large number of supporters for the president that are expected to flood the phoenix convention center and the opponents expected to protest outside. many are waiting to see if the president will pardon former sheriff convicted.

will speak with nbc's matt lauer about the president's strategy in afghanistan. you can watch that on the "today" show after "news4 today." protesters chanting, blood on your hands at last night's charlottesville city council meeting. this is a little more than a week after a white nationalist rally and protests left one woman dead. they shouted down counsel sim members over the handling of that rally. they voted in favor of the removal and -- of the monuments in that city. they also voted to -- three protesters were charged with disorderly conduct. today, families at the condominiums in temple hill worry that they could end up homeless. they may be forced to vacate if the building doesn't pass inspection later today. last week, the prince george's fire department declared the building unsafe. the department said it doesn't

extinguishers. last year, residents were forced to leave after the condo association failed to pay its bills and the power company shut off the lights. residents would have 24 hours to vacate the building. it looks like the purple line is back on track. governor larry hogan expected to sign a funding agreement. the new agreement would free up $325 million federal and a total of $900 million over the lifetime of the agreement. the 16-mile purple line would connect -- cost $2 billion. originally, they said the potential opening is 2022. we'll be checking in on the national weather service on a possible tornado in maryland. this is between leonard town and clements. you can see in the video that large cloud mass

storm team 4 weather alert day today. hazy, hot and humid for the afternoon. one of those days you do everything to stay cool. >> yes, it is aaron especially in the peak afternoon hours. each by will you have time, it's going to start to feel like 100 degrees. though it's going to be very hot this afternoon, hot and humid is going to make it feel so much hotter. we're going to have little rain relief. if you will be out and about, stay hydrated. not a lot of rain in forecast. maybe a few showers tomorrow with a passing cold front. the good news is, behind this cold front, we have a cooldown in the

only around 80 for a high and really no rain. it's going to stay nice and dry. low humidity on the way. 75 in washington. it's warm, kind of humid outside. we are dry on radar. half-mile visibility with fog out there. most of the area is looking pretty good through the afternoon, though. again, you'll see a mix of sun and clouds with not much rain in the forecast. if you're exercising today, warm and humid. but the morning hours will be the best time to do it. that will be the coolest time of the day. by lunchtime, close to 100 degrees outside. close to 103. this is future weather. going through lunchtime, we're still dry. through the afternoon, normally on a hot, humid day, we see pop-up storms. not so much today. we'll be on the drier side. maybe showers overnight. tomorrow, we have a chance for a few showers.

there. from the travel desk, i'm rob stallworth, wtop traffic. >> rob, thank you. a new path forward. that's how president trump is describing his strategy for the afghanistan war. the president laid out his plans in a primetime address last night. it is getting a lot of reaction this morning. the afghan government is applauding president trump's speech. here at home, republicans and democrats are divided. overall, he recommended the 16-year-old war. while the president did not offer any specifics, he did promise a win. >> from now on, victory will have a clear definition. attacking our enemies, obliterating isis, crushing al qaeda, preventing the taliban from taking over afghanistan and stopping master roar attacks against americans before they emerge.

transportation center in upper darby. one passenger said people went flying into the walls when the trains hit and there was blood everywhere. 42 people were hurt. septa operates both trains. when they were experiencing issues before the crash, though septa officials have not confirmed that. the navy is stepping up the search for ten missing sailors. divers have been deployed. they will access some of the flooded rooms on the u.s.s. john mccain and conduct a damage assessment. the sailors went missing after the ship collided with an oil tanker. mean while, the top admiral ordered the entire 7th fleet in the pacific to stop operations for one day to make sure they're running ships safely. the search for the five missing soldiers off the coast of hawaii has been called off. they went missing last week after a helicopter they were in vanished during a
