charlottesville moved him to write public by about his life before the priesthood when he was a member of the klu klux klan and convicted of a cross burning and making death threats. in an article for the -- father wrote, my actions were disspeckble. it's hard to believe that was me. father atchinson was born in arlington in 1954. 1977 while a student at the university of maryland, she was charged with multiple cross burnings in prince georges county. 11 years later, he was ordained as a priest in nevada. in 1993 he was transferred to the dioecies of arlington where he served in several parishes. since 2014 he's been a priest in fairfax. >> father atchinson admits in his article that he was involved in cross burnings, he omits the fact he was served 90 days in jail and ordered -- but after his release

secret service and dc police evacuated the area and all white house staff and reporters had to get inside. the president was not there at the time. today's security threat is the latest in a series of lock downs there. according to news 4 i-team investigation, at least 23 people have been arrested and prosecuted for breeching security at the white house or capitol since 2014. in one of those cases, it was another suspicious package that caused the scare, a parcel left near the white house fence in march. prosecutors tell us the man responsible claimed the package was a bomb. it was found to be harmless. >> well, we're know why president trump wasn't at the white house today. he is in arizona. there you're seeing a live picture from uma, arizona where the president is heading -- he's going next to phoenix, arizona. he's in the state on the heels of a major policy speech on afis

facebook. some folks down in parts of southern maryland at that time. this was looking toward the chapeco area. it looks like a funnel cloud. you can't see it's absolutely touching the ground, but kind of convincingly, potentially, looking like a tornado. again, the national weather service, the latest that they're telling me, though, they did not receive, really, any damming reports that will be convincing enough to have them go down there to investigate if it were in deed a tornado. and more rural area down there. so i don't think that they'll be heading down. but i do think that there was probably a tor they dnado down and we're did receive damage reports in other areas not exactly where that tornado warning was from strong winds. tonight it is hot and humid out there. we're can see a thank you showers and thunderstorms over night -- and we're can see a few showers and thunderstorms over night tonight. tomorrow afternoon is looking nice. that means tomorrow is going to be our transition day, other than transitioning to more

the mess, double the stress. >> new tonight, we're now know that nearly 700 drivers say their vehicles were splattered by liquid asphalt used in a road project road in wood bridge. that's about two times more than when we're first told you about the tar trouble later this month. >> julie carey joins us live now with word from several drivers who say that clean up isn't going too well. >> reporter: that's right. this car, though, clean up is just fine when this suv rolled in this morning, it was covered in that tarp. it was one of four companies that was contract today do the clean up. most of the tar cars like this one coming outlooking shiny again. but a few drivers have contacted us to say their clean up process, was not quite as lucky. before and after. matt goldman's pickup trucks and

here. new details on a crash over night on i-395 that made a lot of you late for work this morning. one person died after an accident in the northbound lane that hov lane near the pentagon. take a look, the crash led to some serious backups and pushed traffic on to the main lanes. even 95 north was backed up. keith allen tweeted this picture to nbc washington as he drove by the crash. another person on twitter said, it took her nearly two hours to get from wood bridge to dc. everything is back to normal now. it's on the cover of the newspaper in new york. tonight, renewed calls to remove statutes and monuments honoring a man many call a villain of history. we're talking about italian explorer, christopher columbus. 76 foot statute honoring the columbus at -- it's one of many that could be on the chopping block. it comes two weeks after

what's going to happen tonight, you think? >> we're going to see some showers in the area tonight, and maybe some more showers tomorrow. we've got a lot of rain thand's going to lower humidity levels for the remainder of the week and beautiful weather, thursday, friday, saturday and sunday. but right now, take a look at what i'm tracking on storm team 4 radar. you can see some broken line of thunderstorms. broken lines out there, actually, in far western maryland and panhandle. this line is moving pretty quickly to 30, 40 miles an hour. hagerstown could see some rain around 7:30 moving into frederick. i think it will slow down as it moves towards the dc metro area. if it holds together moving into the metro area around 10 to 10:30 at the earliest. so the next couple of hours we're going to be dry here. take a look at the road conditions, potentially, tomorrow morning for that wednesday morning commute, some wet road potentially out there. but by the evening, everybody is dry and thursday we're looking at your dry roads once again. tomorrow, a high temperature of 85, so almost ten d
