atchison was dangerous, that he was actually unstable and that he was plotting guerrilla warfare against blacks. father atchison hayes bes beaen priest since 1988, currently at saint leo the great. but in the late 1970s while at the university of maryland, the soon to be priest was the leader of a ku klux klan group and he was convicted of threatening to kill coretta scott king. fbi records also releague father atchison was charged in carroll county, maryland with having illegal explosives after pipe bombs and molotov cocktails were found at his home. he was also charged in prince george's county and howard county with cross burns. one of those was on the front lawn of barbara and phillip butler's home in college park. they say if the catholic priest is truly seeking forgiveness, h

statues of lee and stonewall jackson as the city mourns the deadly violence there earlier this month. the fallout over charlottesville prompting a major change at a place of worship here in d.c. news 4 has learned the national cathedral is speed being up its decision making on what do about two stained glass windows. they memorialize robert e. lee and stonewall jackson. church officials say a decision is, quote, coming soon. and not next summer as previously planned. imagine you're walking down the street and then suddenly slammed, you're hit by a dump truck and dragged more than 60 feet. tonight a young woman opens up about a horrific ordeal that she says nearly killed her. as charges against the driver of that truck are yet to be filed. pat collins has been following this story and he's live in northeast d.c. with an update for us. >> reporter: police say

dump truck driver failed to yield to the pedestrian, but there is more to it than that. you see, that truck kept on going. it struck the pedestrian. it rolled over her legs, it dragged her down the street. it put her in the hospital. and tonight she's talking about it. she's been in the hospital now for more than five weeks. she's had eight operations. she still can't walk. today by phone, bianca butler talked about what it was like are xwhen she was run over by a gigantic dump truck. >> almost drove me to my best. i don't know what to do. i was praying for my life. almost about to die. my legs was crushed. >> reporter: it happened july 11 on south dakota avenue and 33rd street northeast. the dump drum from ft. myer construction. police say that the dump truck was trying to make a right hand turn here, but

people afraid to go to work, to school, even to leave home for the grocery store. that is the everyday life of residents at one apartment complex in annandale after an immigration raid in february. now a move by a rights group may ease some of their fears. kristin wright has that story. >> reporter: many at fairmont gardens in anna dale live in fear. i.c.e. has been here more than once. news 4 has learned two men arrested last winter filed a civil suit against i.c.e. and michelle larue applauds them. >> i think it's a strong message to give to i.c.e. and all law enforcement agencies across the world. >> reporter: on february 17, i.c.e. arrested several people at fairmont gardens. someone recorded this video of agents in the van they took away in. >> i.c.e. agents got out looking

him, and so they basically arrest some other people that they do find instead. they call it collateral arrests. we call it racial profiling. >> reporter: this legal aide assign simon, filed the lawsuit say claiming that i.c.e. detand the man only because they appeared to be of latino ethnicity. and the suit said i.c.e. is encouraged to stop people without reasonable suspicion. we asked i.c.e. they don't comment on pending lawsuits but told fuss part i.c.e. conducts targetedism grace enforcement in compliance with federal law and agency policy. i.c.e. does not conduct sweechs or raids that target aliens indiscriminately. the two men face detore ta deportation takering in january. do you remember where you were when the ground started shaking? >> i do.

washington monument when the whole region experienced an earthquake. chris lawrence has a look back at that historic day. we don't get many of these. >> sure don't. this one caught everybody by surprise. my family included. we just don't get a 5.8 magnitude quake. and this one hit just before 2:00 in the afternoon on a workday. >> i just felt the building starting to shake. >> my desk started shaking. >> we felt the walls moving. >> at the time like a train. >> this happening here? it happened when i was in california, but not in maryland. >> ran out after my captain. sglefsh ran o >> everyone ran outside. first one out the door. >> first before the women and children. yeah. no one died. hardly anyone was injured. but to this day, we're still feeling the aftershocks of that earthquake. at the national cathedral,

and they are still trying to finish the repairs. it opened cracks in the washington monument and compromised the elevator. national park officials had to close the monument for three years. and it's never truly recovered from all that shaking. and remember that was only the beginning. four days later, eye reairene e as a category 1 hurricane. it brought down power lines and trees on top of roads, cars, enhomes. more than a million families and businesses lost power and officials had to postpone the dedication of the new martin luther king jr. memorial. what a week. at the time my daughter was only four weeks old when the earthquake hit. my wife took her out for the first time since giving birth. they were having lunch in downtown d.c. when everything started shaking. she had to grab the baby and run out the door. i lived in california for and i had years, so earthquakes were no big deal f

welcome back. i've come back from the eclipse. amelia had to deal with a tornado. and i cokcome back and now we'r tracking the tropical depression that could become a storm. >> yeah, and as we look to labor dayweekend, every time you're gone we xweget blessed with a tornado warning. so no more vacation for you. >> but every time i come back the weather is phenomenal. plenty of blue skies. nothing going on across our region. it is really just a beautiful day. yesterday high temperatures into the 90s. the heat index was close to 100. today no heat index at all. it's currently 84. those temperatures dropping through the 70s. 79 by 9:00 down to about 75 by 11:00. so really flies weather this evening. look at the current temperatures around the rest of the area, already down

fredericksburg and win chester. we did have some hours in southern maryland, but that is moving south and east. tomorrow sunshine, a great afternoon. high temperature of 82 degrees. but i did tell you we are tracking not just the front that is moving through our region now, but we're tracking tropical depression harvey which is down in the gulf of mexico. with more on that and our weather, amelia is taking a look. >> and it's really the southeastern part of the state as harvey continues to make its way toward texas. it's not about winds with this storm system, it's all about the rain. take a look at the latest track. there is the latest sats lig ee image. expected to strengthen to a tropical storm throughout day tomorrow, maybe becoming a hurricane as it makes lawful on friday around corpus christi. but here is the thing. take a look at what happens after that. usually we track storms mg

10 miles per hour. but in storm system just does not move on into monday. and that is going to lead to major flooding issues. take a look at the potential rainfall amounts out around the houston area. anywhere from about 10 to 20 inches of rain. so we look back to other storms and fwhapdwhat happened in a si situation, and that brings untropical storm up tropical storm allison. it caused $9 billion in damage. and it's the only tropical storm, so not a hurricane, but a tropical storm that actually had its name retired because of the damage. >> and we'll be watching that very closely not just for those in houston. we'll see pictures similar to this one. but for our weather right into the weekend, some fantastic weather saturday and sunday, although a little bit on the cool side. but look, even on our forecast, we are tracking harvey into next week.
