the north and north and east of the -- let's go down to jay gray live in texas. >> let's take a look at the coast in corpus christi where this storm is going to lash out. you can see the waves are going there. this is expected to intensify over night with harvey and once the storm gets here. it's likely going to stay for a while. >> even before land fall, harvey is unleashing its fury on the texas coast. >> this is a hurricane that will go inland and then is -- it's just to hover for a long period of time. >> driving rain and sustained winds of at least 110 miles an hour. it's the strongest storm to

weather service forecast is calling for 32 inches of rain here in the next several days. that's the latest live here in victoria texas, back to you. >> already got flood warnings down there along the rivers and that's before the heaviest rain has started. i want to complete this track for you. this goes through the day on sunday and into monday. it does not move much. this is four days sitting down here. some of the computer models, including the national hurricane center bring it back out to sea as a tropical storm and increase close to a hurricane again as it makes land fall close to houston on tuesday an wednesday. this will be down here for days, amelia sent -- she just landed around the houston area. she'll be reporting for us during the afternoon, you're hopefully coming up at 6:00 near galveston area, it could be one of the hardest hit from this storm. >> good deal. nice to have our own s o

eyes. >> president trump and the first lady just arrived, they'll be spending the weekend there. mr. trump has been closely monitoring the storm and he'll continue to do so for there. >> this is the president's first major national disaster. blayne alexander is live at the white house with the latest development. >> the white house is really trying to make it clear and the president, himself, that he is on top of this. that they are watching this, monitoring it very closely and even though he won't be here at the white house this weekend, he'll be in camp david, as you mentioned, he's got everything that he needs to stay on top of the situation. earlier today the president sent out several tweets, one of them was a picture of him being briefed by the head of fema. he tweeted he had spoken with the governors of louisiana and texas. now during today's white house briefing that wrapped up, this was a topic of questioning. it was something that was a big focus during today's

of course homeland security adviser to the president said that this is something that they were preparing for, they've been talking about and that the president himself had a number of questions on. one thing that was also kind of an arching theme is the response in contrast to what happened during hurricane katrina. in fact, he said that it was freshly on the minds of many people as they were going forward and changing some of the policies, some of the federal policies that we're saw in place back then in 2005 to what they are now. here is how they respond to that during today's briefing, take a look. >> it's on the minds of all the emergency managers, that experience is still in their memory, and what we've done is gotten a lot better as a government. congress has gotten better and allowed -- resources and assets in advance of an event. >> and they said he was -- that was very strong in his memory as he was part of that in response back to

them over and she told me that she started fighting and screaming. that's when her neighbors came to her rescue. they poured out of their houses on to the sidewalks and they actually chased the attackers off and that's why police were able to catch one of those men. the other one is still out there. now, today, she says she's doing okay. she's, of course, very grateful to her neighbors. she said she's not about to live her life in fear. >> that's not going to change. i'm not going to make somebody coming up to me, you know, make me afraid. i'm not. that's not going to happen. >> she also tells me that she's planning on taking martial arts classes, possibly. she also wants to throw a block party. >> thanks. aimee, what a story, leon. >> it's been a little over 2

affordable. >> even some organic foods, if you can believe. kristin wright is at whole foods where customers are crossing their fingers for savings. hey, kristin? >> reporter: everyone has been talking about this big announcement from whole foods and amazon. starting monday, day one of the acquisition, prices up and down the food aisles are suppose to drop. now, as you may know, some refer to as whole foods, as whole paycheck because it is so expensive. but amazon says they're going to lower prices on best selling staples across whole food stores, including organic fruits and vegetable and high quality meats. effectively this should mean that more people and families have better access to healthier foods. we're asked people around the whole foods on h street what they think. >> i don't shop at whole foods because prices are too high. but i have ever -- i was like, okay, maybe i will go down now. >> i just don't think that

night. we're don't know the full impact of harvey until monday. >> yes. i think they have shutdown operations. >> yeah, it's going to fill up. we're talking today, my wife and i are going to be filling up today. you'll save some money. as long as you do that in our area, that's really the only impact we're going to have that's a direct impact from this. the biggest impact in texas, this is going to be a storm that we're talked about for years, not just for the next couple of days but for years. let's take a look and shea you the latest satellite radar picture. you see how big it is. the storm itself making its way, the buzz saw of the hurricane making its way close to corpus christi. we've got rain bands close to the new orleans area. a very large storm. you can see here the latest advisory has this as now category three storm. this would be the first major hurricane to hit the u.s. since 2005. that was

portions of florida, including miami. did a lot of damage down that way. 120 mile an hour winds, and it is still sunday, monday, tuesday, exiting the coast and possibly reentering as another strong hurricane. so this is something we'll be watching very closely. the biggest threat here is going to be the rain. but today the big threat will be the storm surge and the wind. you can see the first of the rain band is right there. this is one of the strongest rain bands coming right on, obviously the strongest is right down around there. that's where we're had the 120 mile an hour winds gusts up to 140 miles an hour, this is moving to the northwest and off on that track, it's going to make its way right up towards the coastline here, 57 miles away in about four hours. i want to get right up here to where we're going to be. and that's about four hours, 40 minutes from now, take a look at

that's expected to make land fall. most likely, north of corpus christi. that is some good news because the storm surge will be north of the center. you can see here, north of the center, corpus christi here, if it comes on shore to the north between corpus christi, the storm surge will hit to the northern portions, corpus christi may luck out. they'll still get devastated by the strong winds of that area. hurricane warnings for everybody here in the red around corpus christi. these are tropical storm forced winds. tornado watch in and around the corpus christi area, all the way up to houston, there have been tornado warnings around, a couple with the bands tracking those, as well. tornado a big threat as we're move on through the rest of the evening today, any land fall tropical system does have potential for tornados. here is the storm surge warning. this is new this year, the national hurricane center just started

upwards of five, six, seven feet, in some areas, 12 feet from this storm and you can see where that is from houston all the way down towards the corpus christi area. we'll continue to monitor that guys, across our region. one thing a little bit different. it will stay in texas a little bit longer. we're tracking harvey for the weekend, right now it looks like things may be a little bit better, we'll talk much more about that, not a lot going on until tuesday and wednesday, when another tropical system in the atlantic may effect us just a little bit. we'll have much hr will have mu more on that -- >> i just dropped my kids off at college this week. >> i notice the tear stain. >> yes. >> for normal families. what do you do when the new kid on campus is the son or daughr is ate

ordered declarations across the state. and minutes ago we're learned vice president mike pitts is going -- mike pence is going to stay in dc. as a matter of fact, you tell me if i'm wrong, i think i read somewhere the national weather service had to create a whole new category for the amount of rain they're going to get. >> it goes off the scale. you heard the governor said you can get out of houston. this is going to be indirect from the rain around the houston area. some areas could see 20 to 30 inches of rain. flooding. this is a prone flood area down there in the southeast texas. boy is this storm going to bring on the flooding. here is the storm, here is the eye, the center of circulation, corpus christi right now starting to see. it will get close to hurricane force winds over the next couple of hours and moving on shore with the winds up

tonight. a devastating storm tonight and then over the long haul, meaning four or five days it's another impact. let's take a look at those impacts today. the impacts today and later this evening, storm surge flooding, could be upwards of 9, 10, 11, 12 feet. winds right along the coast. power out aages will be likely. from corpus christi over to houston, a lot of texas now, major flooding is expected. san antonio, houston, down towards corpus christi. numerous homes will be lost, maybe thousands of homes damaged from this storm and power out for weeks. that's why the governor is saying, hey, may be a good idea to get out of the hue ton area, dallas not effected much at all. you'll see a lot of people moving from the southern portion up towards the northern portion of the state around the dallas area. >> if you're not traveling to texas, hurricane harvey is going to have an impact on
