washington, the president says harvey may require the most expensive disaster response effort. he'll work with congress to make sure texas has the money it needs. >> now it's louisiana's turn. southwestern parts of that state have seen a foot of rain, about 500 people have been evacuated from the gulf coast, near the texas louisiana border where harvey is expected to make land again tomorrow. this weather system comes 12 years to the day since hurricane katrina came to the city, that storm killed 1800 people, damaged 200,000 homes and left 80% of new orleans under water. >> back in houston now and a surprise at the grocery store for our ameala draper and her photographer beth brown. >> they're both getting some much deserved rest right now after getting a look at the real struggle just to find food in houston. >> i've been in

now since friday afternoon and every day we kind of go out, my photographer beth and i. we have a general idea, but most days we've discovered that the story comes to us. and today it happened only a mile away from our hotel. driving around, we came across this grocery store, people waiting in a one to two hour line to pick up essentials, only a few people were let in. >> across the street, a mcdonalds was open. we went to check out the highway where we came across these folks. they were using their dump truck and a boat to see if anyone needed rescuing, back at the hotel where the coast guard is staying, this man was coming back from a shift of rescuing people. he talked to us about the latest on rescue and recovery efforts. >> i'd say the weather has been the b

been the worst i've seen with torrential downpores, limited visibility, down the spot mission, trying to get every drop of gas out of the helicopter. every five minutes we could be hoisting someone. some people are trapped on their roofs, or in the attics, but now we're seeing a lot of medical evacuations and people who need medicine, people who are diabetic, need dialysis, where can we move them get dialysis, that's been the biggest struggle. yesterday we saved 20 people in the three hours we were flying, and the day before our crew saved 19. i'm pretty sure the other crews have had similar numbers. you multiple that by how many numbers of helicopters we've been flying around the clock. i'm thankful to have a job like this where i feel very complete when i'm done with one of these

crest over the next few days and there will be flooding for weeks on end. i want to show you what's happening east of houston. the center of circulation just off the coast here. beaumont and areas around beaumont where houston saw two to 3 inches, this area saw 15 inches, and i 10 completely unpassable, completely under water. that storm making its way our way, current le winds 50 miles an hour, moving onshore, becoming a tropical depression tomorrow at 35 miles an hour. it will be inland, so weakening, then watch the path. up towards the ohio river valley, then right over towards us by saturday. that means it will affect us during the day on saturday. most likely are rainfall. tomorrow no problem. 79 for you folks that have the kids in school, you will not need to send the umbrella with them tomorrow. saturday,
