welcome to "news 4 midday." people are still talking about this video showing a woman throwing urine on a metro bus driver and it is prompting a group of drivers to say they can't do their jobs safely anymore. the drivers fight with metro led to major service delays this morning. news 4's megan mcgrath is live at the madison avenue station live with what they want them to do about the problem an the story that seems to just not be going anywhere, megan. >> reporter: well, we are seeing x2 service resume here and you can see there's an x2 bus behind me here and delays. quite an impasse this morning. metro bus drivers on the x2 line saying they wouldn't say without a police officer or supervisor

situation was an unauthorized labor action. the result here this morning -- big delays on the x2. >> union station, they kept them back up. >> reporter: bus riders to find different ways to get to work following a major disruption on the line this morning. service snarled between lafayette square and benning road after the bus driver's union took a stand this morning demanding more security on the x2 line. >> today, the operators, all they're asking is for transit police officers or that supervisor to get on the bus and ride with them. what did metro do instead of riding with them? they took them out of service. >> reporter: the calls for security after this disturbing incident last saturday when a rider threw her urine on the driver because the suspect opal brown was charged with a misdemeanor, she was released from custody following her initial court appearance. >> they just opened the door and made it open season on

statement the union representing bus operators is currently engaged in an unauthorized and potentially unlawful labor action that is significantly impacting riders on the x2 line. metro says safety is a priority and that 40 transit officers are specifically des kated to metro bus. transit police chief says they have identified troublesome lines and officers do ride some of the buses. but -- >> any given time there's 1,200 buses give or take in operations so is it not possible to have an officer on bus is not realistic. it is not a realistic expectation. >> reporter: as for riders, many would like to see added security on the x2 and expressed frustration about this morning's lack of service. >> x2? >> i don't know. they need to come on with a bus. >> i got to get the bus at 8:00 a.m. and no bus and wait for this. i don't know where the other bus

is. >> reporter: and so we have seen some folks boarding this x2 bus here at the minnesota avenue metro station. keep in mind if you are pressed for time there are the residual delays. might want to make other plans. >> thank you. switching gears now, the remnants of harvey moving east, clouds from the storm dumping rain on downtown nashville. this system already dropped more than nine inches of rain in parts of tennessee. the damage there, pales in comparison to what's left behind in texas, though. we find sarah dallof following up on the cleanup. >> reporter: a weakened harvey with rain to new states. flooded roads and neighborhoods in tennessee. a tornado touched down in western alabama. in the weeks since harvey made landfall, scenes like this played out across the region. crews with an ax to rescue a mother and four children. >> fire department. >> reporter: in houston, firefighters going door to door.

looking for the missing. >> where everything is going is water. >> reporter: in other neighborhood, cleanup begins. some experts believe this storm could exceed katrina in terms of damages. insurance losses estimated as much as $37 billion. this is the first disaster where companies and homeowners are using drones to survey devastation. >> in some cases we don't even need to get out to the property to start the repairs. >> reporter: hoping to speed up the process for people already pushed to the limit. with refineries offline and major pipeline to the east coast disrupted, harvey's destruction having an impact on gas prices up 16 cents in a week. in houston, sarah dallof, nbc news. all right. so what's left of harvey will finally arrive in our area just in time for the weekend, right? >> yeah. >> so is this -- are we talking about a total washout? little bit of rain? cooler air?

looking like harvey will be dominating. but here is a look right now at the radar. you can see we're already getting the debris clouds from harvey here in the district. if you step outside right now, very cool day. the rain yet to arrive but on the wayment you can take a look at the gravity of harvey. a tropical depression and remnants and packing a punch, one to two inches of rain on the saturday. as far as today goes, you still got sometime with running around to do. right now, we are at 64 degrees. well below the norm for this time of year. feeling alike fall. in the afternoon, highs won't move much. into the mid to upper 60s. again, very cool. pretty much dry. maybe sprinkles and the rain arriving through the saturday. take a look at the head loins. so cloudy and cool today. harvey's rain arrives tomorrow but the good news is it's out by sunday. i'll break it down more for you and stick around tracking another system developing i

fill up the gas tank today. that is the message from aaa this morning. we have been telling you past week now hurricane harvey will impact gas prices. overnight national gas prices rose seven cents. the average cost of gas in the area ten cents more compared to when the -- before hurricane harvey made landfall. two major pipeline that is carry gas to the east coast shut down because of the storm. the company hopes to reopen them this weekend. there's no telling when the prices could stabilize. about 100 helpless animals of texas arrived in maryland. and they're looking for new homes. news 4 was there at the animals arrived yesterday. besides dogs, last chance animal rescue placing cats and rabbits in
