out. let's get straight to the current conditions to see what you are dealing with when you walk out the door. how does it feel? current temperatures right now, mid-60s and climbing. winds out of the west, about 6 miles per hour. a little breezy this afternoon. today's forecast shaping up to be a good one. highs expected to rise near the 80s. a lot more sunshine as we head throughout the day. labor day looking spectacular. tuesday we could feel a lot more like summer here with temperatures nearing 90. we will take a look at what irma is doing out in the tropics. meanwhile we are following major breaking news this morning, and that's likely to increase already high tensions between north korea and the united states. the north says it has successfully conducted a test of a hydrogen bomb. that happened hours after unusual seismic activity near a site where north korea has detonated nuclear explosions

earlier in the day the north released these pictures of their leader, kim jong-un, expecting the loading of a hydrogen bomb into a missile. meanwhile we are also hearing from the president. he responded on twitter saying north korea's words and actions continue to be hostile and dangerous to the united states. he went on to call the north a rogue nation. in a move that could complicate the situation with south korea trump told advisers to begin preparing the u.s. to with draw from a trade deal with the south. that's according to the "washington post." the move would back up the president's promise to what he says is to with draw from the unfair trade deals. today is a national day of prayer for the millions affected by what

sites. the epa sites are responsible for cleaning up some of the nation's most hazardous waste material, and the epa says a total of 13 sites were flooded by harvey and experiencing possible damage and there's concern whether floodwaters also washed in pollution. and then watch "meet the press," chuck todd will have the houston mayor on. and then blasting the trump administration this morning, russia says the actions violate international law and they may retaliate. last month you will remember russia forced the u.s. to cut its diplomatic personnel in the country. a deadly scene erupted in the district. gunfire broke out last night on tugman road in

dar darcy spencer reports. >> reporter: a shooting on tugman road this holiday weekend. family members are extremely emotional as they learn a young woman that just turned 19 years old had been killed in the gunfire. a man was also shot and wounded. a third victim suffered a minor graze wound. witnesses tell me there were many shots fired around 7:00 in the evening. police taped off a large section of the street and surrounding area for the investigation. police were focusing on a home where the victims were standing when the shots rang out. family members say the young woman lived here and they have no idea why anybody would want to hurt her. police are still searching for the shooter. >> it's a very unfortunate incident, obviously, and just, again, just reinforcing the

♪ ♪ bad news for fans of tom jones. the singer is postponing his lengthy u.s. tour days before it was set to start. the 77-year-old singer of hits like "she's a lady" released a statement yesterday apologizing to fans but said the decision was based on medical advice. no further details were added about that decision. the tour has been rescheduled for the summer of next year. fire crews in the midst of a devastating wildfire in los angeles three homes have been lost in what is being called the biggest fire

he made claims former president obama wiretapped trump tower. james comey disputed the president's claim earlier this year. and the doj reiterated the claim in a legal filing brought by a group wanting to prove the claims. and daca is an obama-era policy that involves young people brought here to the united states to remain. local recipients are anxiously awaiting the decision. chris gordon has a look. >> reporter: these protesters began the vigil at the white house on august 15th. the fifth anniversary of daca. the demonstration continues. they fear that president trump could soon end daca, the deferred action for childhood arrivals program. it

time right now is 9:28 on this sunday morning. here's what is going on. tensions between north korea and the united states are getting higher, and that comes after the north claims to have successfully tested a hydrogen bomb. and president trump made today the national day of prayer for the victims of hurricane harvey. relatives of a 19-year-old woman are mourning her loss in d.c. d.c. police say she was killed in a triple shooting on dugman road in southeast last night. two other men were hurt and are expected to be okay. no word yet on a suspect.

breaking news for north korea. they tested a hydrogen bomb. president trump responded to the test calling the north a rogue nation. the white house press secretary says the national security team is monitoring the situation closely and will have a meeting later today. meanwhile south korea says it will use every available measure to isolate north korea including new u.n. sanctions or the deployment of more u.s. military assets. the mayor of houston tells nbc news that more than 95% of the city is now dry. hard to imagine after scenes like this continue to come in. despite that he is ordering a mandatory evacuation for a section of the city and it affects about 4,600 homes that already have water inside of them. the mayor says those homes are not safe for residents or first re

do. i would have preferred if people voluntarily chose to leave but they made the decision to stay, and i have to balance the safety of those that chose to stay and the first responders and their duty to help those that chose to stay. animals from texas shelters are on their way to our area. we were there as 20 dogs were delivered to the humane rescue alliance in northwest d.c. all of these animals were homeless before harvey hit. these dogs will not be ready for adoption just yet but there are plenty others that need homes, and you don't have to pay adoption fees to help clear the shelters. national's superstar pitcher, max scherzer and his wife

and then a local civil rights activist killed on her scooter. she was killed last week when her scooter hit a car making a u-turn. she worked for 17 years at the human rights campaign and was a champion for lgbt rights. her friends describe her as a bright and energetic woman in d.c. and then gathering to pray. david culver sat down with the pastor this week and he shares his message of forgiveness. >> it was just people that had hatred. i don't know why. >> he can't explain what motivated somebody to post racist and t

good morning. i am storm team 4 meteorologist, somara theodore. we are going to be drying out as we head throughout your sunday. perfect labor day setting up for us and we could see near 90 by tuesday. therefore if you are wondering if i can squeeze one more pool day out of the summer? i am thinking the optimal day will be tuesday as we approach near 90 degrees. hot out there. and most kids will be out of school, and then looking at nothing but sunshine. and then labor day, stick around for that. and we're also tracking irma. developing this morning more than 100 hikers spent the night on an oregon mountain as a wildfire burns below them. first responders say about 140

eagle creek trail saturday and the fire cut off their path and the national guard was able to rescue two hikers but dropped supplies for the rest that had to tough it out throughout the night. all of the hikers are accounted for. a major u.s. airline now up and running again in houston. southwest airlines started to resume its flights at the hobby airport. united and american resume limited flights into houston on monday. more than 16 million people are expected to fly during the labor day travel period. an e-mail led to the resignations of a university of maryland professor and volunteer. he accidentally sent an e-mail to students on thursday. that e-mail talked about who had been accepted to a mock trial class. the e-mail included comments from his daughter, abigail, who was an assistant coach

out. numbers will rise in the upper 70s, near 80 degrees for a lot of us. the sun will start to peek through the clouds and by 5:00 or 6:00, we get legit breaks in the clouds. highs expected to top off around 80 degrees. it's going to be breezy at times this afternoon, but i think we are shaping up nicely for your labor day holiday. stick around. i have that forecast coming up. we are following major breaking news that is likely to increase already-high tensions between north korea and the u.s. north korea tested a hydrogen bomb. this is the country's sixth nuclear test and earlier in the day the north released these pictures of its leaders, kim jong-un, inspecting the loading of a hydrogen bomb into a new intercontinental ballistic missile.
