immigration program that could put the future of so many young people in question. and the reaction from the local college campus in the national spotlight. here we go again. storm team 4 is tracking hurricane irma. the storm is now a category 4 hurricane. it's barrelling toward the caribbean at this moment. >> puerto rico and florida have declared a state of emergency in advance oft. a lot of people in florida stocked up on supplies. the storm is not expected to hit until later this week. but even the nfl is taking heed. league officials may postpone or cancel sunday's buccaneer-dolphins game. >> doug has the latest. how does it look? >> it looks menacing. my b

area and i said you need to make sure you are ready for the storm and have the hurricane preparations ready to go. this storm making its way towards parts of florida is looking more likely now. first it will hit the caribbean islands and puerto rico now under the puerto rican area now under a hurricane warning as this storm is moving closer. here is puerto rico right here. here's the storm and a very, very strong storm. it continues to strengthen. this is brand-new about 15, 20 minutes ago, has winds 140 miles an hour. the pressure is 943. it is down a little bit. that means we have a strengthening hurricane. it will pass to the north of puerto rico. that's the expected projection here at 145 miles an hour. they will see wind and a lot of rain. could see flash flooding issues around that region. and 0

and making the turn up to florida saturday into sunday. i'm going to have much more coming up in 15 minutes. we're tracking irma's path. i have the latest on that and what it means for potential u.s. landfall. and a lot of people going back to school tomorrow. i have that forecast for you as well. we could have severe weather tomorrow. as we track irma, the devastation from harvey is still a reality. the death toll is around 60 including people who died from indirect complications from the storms. the floods also delayed medics and firefighters from reaching flood victims. new developments in the north korea crisis to report tonight. the u.n. security council met in an emergency session. >> this time to address

test yet. north korea claims to have detonated a two-stage thermo nucle nuclear bomb on sunday. >> today the u.s. ambassador to the united nations, nikki haley urged the u.n. security council to urge stronger economic sanctions before the time for diplomacy runs out. >> this abusive use of missiles and nuclear threats show he is begging for war. >> ambassador haley says the u.s. will target countries doing business with north korea. president trump is reportedly ready to end the daca program for young immigrants. >> that leaves thousands uncertain about their futures. 800,000 young people have benefitted from daca since it was created five years ago. they must have entered the u.s.

canines and a blood hound to track down the man they believe is involved in a double shooting. he reportedly shot two men in charles county this afternoon. one man died at the scene and a second is in serious condition. pierce's car was found on friendship landing road near a marina. what led to the gunfire isn't clear. only on 4 tonight, a daughter says she will always lend a helping hand to others even though her father lost his life doing that. he stopped to help drivers last week. another driver hit her father and the other good samaritan took off from the scene. her father loved animals, motorcycles and he loved his family. >> i have to pretty much keep going. but it's been very hard. >> going to miss him. >> of course. very much.

up until this past weekend not too many people outside our area were familiar with howard university. that all changed when the school's football team hit the field saturday. they pulled out a win and set off a social media firestorm. shomari stone has reaction from the head coach and students after that whirlwind upset. >> i'm elated for the players more than anything else. >> reporter: michael long con is the first-year head coach at howard university. >> what was your reaction when day won? >> i was astounded. >> reporter: his team pulled off the biggest upset in college football history on saturday. he is still in shock. >> i've been up 48 straight hours right now. but i'm running onum

stone, news 4. >> they're excited. a big change for hundreds of children headed back to school in montgomery county tomorrow those who use a trail to walk or ride their bike to school are going to have to find another way. construction of the purple line will close the trail for five years. but opponents say it should close in sections so that people can still enjoy it during construction. they plan to ask a judge for a temporary restraining order tomorrow to keep it open. there is hope for two maryland brothers deported to el salvador last month. they have scholarships to an american university in nicaragua. they garnered widespread support after i.c.e. detained them as the youngest was just about to start college on a scholarship.

investigative reporter jody flesher has more. >> reporter: this photo of the two on their porch is a far cry of the smiling pictures with their family and friends in maryland. >> they don't feel good over there. they get bored because they're not doing anything. and they scared to go out. >> reporter: their sister admits the brothers came to the u.s. illegally in 2009 at ages 10 and 13. their parents and older siblings were already here. the brothers have never been in trouble but went to an i.c.e. check in and never came home. i.c.e. detained both brothers and deported them wildfithin da >> they didn't know the name of the president. they miss what they have here. they have family, friends. >> reporter: the brothers are montgomery county soccer standouts. teammates, coaches and their families

the boys here, to no avail. fearing violence and lack of opportunity in el salvador the family has been working to bring them back. >> my heart is broken. i don't know how to explain this pain. i miss seeing my brothers. >> reporter: now she has a glimmer of hope telling news 4 an american university in ni nicaragua has accepted them on soccer scholarships. the brothers will travel within days to begin their studies. the family is excited to have something positive happen for the boys. the chances of them legally coming back to the u.s. are almost nonexistent. you may want to get up earlier tomorrow morning. that's because tomorrow is one of the worst traffic days of the year. the day after labor day has earned itself a nickna

in lees burg. no rain in our area. storm team 4 radar is dry. but a very well defined cold front. you can see the storms lining up on this front from st. louis all the way up to buffalo and toronto in canada. that front moving through tomorrow night into the day on wednesday and will give us shower activity. starting off tomorrow morning, 9:00 a.m. no problem for the kids a it the bus stop. 1:00, a lunch outdoors? you can do that too. but as we move into 5:00, here comes the line back along the blue ridge in the d.c. metro area. 6:00, 7:00, 58:00. some of the storms could be strong or severe. it is something i will be watching. i would not be surprised to see a couple of warnings. but we do get another chance during the day on wednesday. we'll break that down for you too. sc

no problem. breezy, 79 degrees. 86 by 3:00 in the afternoon. the kids are? shorts and short leasleeves. the storms rumble in at the 5:00 hour. hurricane irma is still well away from the u.s. but coming close to the u.s. virgin islands and puerto rico. hurricane warnings on the islands there. this is now a category 4 storm. an extremely large hurricane here. 140-mile-an-hour winds moving to the west at 130 miles an hour. it goes across the northern islands. this is huge. the strongest winds are to the north but they could have 145-mile-an-hour storm by wednesday. in the bahamas by friday and very close to miami saturday night. and the latest computer models

all of them come to this location and directly to the north. where that turn occurs, just east or west of miami all eyes are on southern florida for this storm. we'll be tracking this for the next couple days. eventually it comes to the north and brings us some rain. but that is all for us, just rain. we will be tracking it next tuesday and wednesday for us. tomorrow, stronger storms late tomorrow might and cooler rainy weather on wednesday. the weekend looking fantastic. full first weekend after the kids go back to school. we'll all be ready for that one. the nats don't blink as a marlins star unleashes on the cameras. >> sports next. how can you hate so much every other race but your race? and we are the same. >> ellen degeneris back
