work from the holidays, from summer vacation. that means a whole lot of traffic too. >> not to worry. we're working to help you make it easier this morning. news 4's transportation reporter adam tuss has advice for you before you hop in your car this morning. good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning, eun. i wish i had a magic wand to make it all go away. unfortunately, i don't. so out here on the roads this morning, you could find more traffic than usual. right now on connecticut avenue making our way to the beltway. of course, we always have activity that could be going on. why do we call it terrible traffic tuesday and really the september slowdown that we're dealing with? really, it's because all of those school systems come back. everyone comes back from their summer vacation and then we deal with everyone being on the roads. that can lead to 20 to 30% more traffic on the roads in the morning. so it is certainly something to pay attenti

stories making waves this morning. >> you can expect rallies like this in our area today as people defend the deferred action for childhood arrivals program. the trump administration is expected to announce today it will end daca with a six-month delay. later this morning, activists will hold a news conference outside the white house and march to the immigration and customs enforcement office. south korea conducted new live fire training exercises today in a show of force against north korea. today's training involves south korean warships taking part in drills aimed at retaliating against the provocations by the north. meanwhile, the u.n. security council held an emergency meeting yesterday where they called for the council to adopt the strongest diplomatic measures against that country. hurricane irma is intensifying as it barrels toward the caribbean and maybe the u.s. that storm is now a

hurricane. what does that mean? you've got winds constantly at 130 miles per hour. this is expected to arrive in the leeward islands today and move toward puerto rico on wednesday. although the path remains uncertain, people in florida are beginning to stockpile. most stores are already running out of water and gas cans. we are closely tracking hurricane irma as the storm moves closer to the u.s. take a look at video of noaa hurricane hunters flying into the storm right now. >> trying to get that video to you here. let's check in with lauryn ricketts. there it is, lauryn. you can see the turbulence, the camera is jolting. the storm is growing stronger. tell us what to expect. >> we can expect strengthening over the next 48 hours as these conditions are ripe for a hurricane to continue to strengthen. right now the winds are up to 145 miles per hour. i

it is a category hurricane right now. the high well-defined and it was defined as of yesterday afternoon. here's the track of my map for a second. you can see, as it goes to the south of miami, south of the keys, category 4, it retains strength through there. it doesn't come out past this because the track is unpredictable. we will have a better idea by wednesday. these are all the different models and data. exactly where to go. we're continuing to watch it. if we see impact, it wouldn't be until after tuesday. we have a good while before we know what's going on with this and what track it's going to take. lauryn, thank you. a manhunt in charles county, maryland. deputies say brian pierce shot two men outside of a home on port tobacco road. one man died at the scene and the second

because of the search, the sheriff's office is adding patrols near mt. hope elementary school. friends and family say goodbye to a man killed trying to help a stranger. his daughter said she will continue helping others even though her father died doing that. he was one of two good samaritans who stopped to help drivers involved in an accident in beltville. another driver hit her father and the other good samaritan and took off. >> pretty much keep going. it's been very hard. >> going to miss him? >> of course. very much so. my best friend. >> rios lived about two miles from the crash. nicole says her father loved animals and motorcycles and he especially loved his family. he was a carpenter and built this elaborate doghouse for his dog lucas.

are walking from charlottesville to d.c. to protest white supremacy. it is the civil rights march of their time. this was organized on facebook after the deadly rally in charlottesville. marchers have traveled 97 miles and have just 21 to go. they spent the night at a fairfax county church and will march eight miles to falls church. tomorrow the group will gather in gateway center park and foster key bridge into d.c. let's go to angie goff with news about north korea. >> two powerful world leaders are wearing in. angie, what's happening? >> we're hearing from leaders around the globe. heard from putin and angela merkel. both calling for diplomacy this morning. nonmilitary force. putin called the latest nuclear tests provocative but he said military hysteria is the wrong way to go and warned of a quote, global catastrophe, if the standoff escalates. the german chancellor sayin

storm. all right. the inner loop of the beltway, not bad right now. in pretty decent shape. if you're riding in virginia, give you potentially a live look at route 7. this is the ramp to route 7. we have the right lane blocked with the emergency work zone. otherwise, because of the holiday yesterday, there was no overnight roadwork. thankfully, we're in decent shape there. beltway has been quiet for now. we may have an issue in the bowie area on 50 leaving the beltway eastbound near 704. we're going to keep an ear on that and hopefully it's not too serious. jack, thank you. another wildfire in the west explodes. why some neighbors in oregon are refusing to flee the flames. it seems like she has dealt with it during each pregnancy. this one is no different. a closer look at a debilitating illness. another look at the roadways right now. pretty clear at this hour. that is not going to last, though, for as long as kids from a

undocumented immigrants have benefited from the program since it was created five years ago. they must have entered the u.s. before turning 16 and have no serious criminal background. the program has cleared the way for them to obtain drivers licenses, work permits and in some states qualify for in-state tuition. now we want to get to tracie potts live on capitol hill. >> what is the white house thinking on potentially ending daca. >> the president has been sending out mixed messages by this. he's influenced by conservatives who want to see it go away. nine states who say if he doesn't get rid of it, they will sue. a couple on the other side, california and new york, saying they'll sue if he does get rid of it. there's pressure on both sides. but the president himself has said this is a tough issue for him. we're talking about people who came here without any decision of their own. they were children. now many of them adults. many of t

of society who have not committed crimes. should they be put back for possible deportation. there's a lot of pressure on president trump to do just that. >> tracie, part of the plan would include a six-month delay before it takes effect, giving congress time to act on it. is there any indication they can come together to do something before the deadline? >> that's a good question given all the other stuff they're dealing with. if the justice department will announce a six-month delay this morning, that's what a couple of sources are telling us. it will give them time to figure out if there is what supporters would say a more humane way of doing this. by the way, we learned overnight that decision is not coming out of the white house. we're expecting a press conference by attorney general jeff sessions later this morning. >> tracie potts on the hill this morning. tracie, thank you. the end of the program will have a deep impact on people in our area. for many of the them, the u.s. is the

county. his four served as maryland's assistant football coach twice and was the interim coach in 2015. still no suspects or motive in this case. you've seen these images of white nationalists marching through the university of virginia campus with torches lit. now the school will spend $250,000 to conduct a safety review on last month's events. the daily progress reports uva is prepared to add staffing and infrastructure based on the findings of this review. the university is adding more security at major events, including sporting events. the rally in charlottesville was about preserving confederate statues. the violence that erupted may have accomplished the opposite. charlottesville may vote to remove another confederate statue. they will vote on the stone wall jackson statue that sits in the park. last month they vote today move forward with the removal of the

park. virginia's senators will honor alexandria police officers and other first responders for their heroism during that congressional baseball shooting in june. several people were hurt there, including congressman steve scalise when a gunman opened fire on a republican baseball practice. senators mark warner and tim kaine will present the police with a senate resolution today co-sponsored by every member of the u.s. senate. that resolution recognizes the survivors of that shooting. everybody is still buzzing over the royal baby news that came out of kensington palace this weekend. >> threes a charm i say. kate middleton is pregnant their third child. she's sitting out of royal engagements for now. she's been experiencing severe morning sickness. the upcoming addition will make prince harry's prospects of being king each more unlikely. this moves him to sixth in line. i don't think he minds. >> fantastic, great. very hap

neighborhood and now they're keeping watch over it. a unique new program in thailand is using a smart vest to turn stray dogs into heroes. it's called watchdog. here's how it works. a hidden camera is attached to the collar of a dog's vest and activated when the sensors detect aggressive barking. it then sends a live streaming video of what the dog saw to a central location. no word on when or if the vest will be released worldwide. some dogs bark at anything. if it's a squirrel or a bird. >> aggressive bark. >> you have to get to that point, then you turn on the camera. prosecutors say case closed. >> there will be no charges in the crash near a congressional motorcade in frederick county back in january. the news 4 i-team scat macfarlane has a look at why. >> reporter: the crash happened in an instant where

270. it was a chain reaction crash. a dump truck driver failed to stop in time for a police blockade. it was waiting for a congressional motorcade to go through. it hitted an suv, created a wall of fire and killed a man in the suv. a man from gaithersburg. no charges will be filed against the dump truck driver. even though he's suspected of being on the phone at the time, the phone was destroyed. there are questions about the congressional motorcade. >> we do have motorcades coming up here. if they're not conducted correctly, they pose a threat to travelers that come through frederick county and commute to and from the county. >> reporter: no comment from u.s. capitol police about their motorcade. the dump truck driver just wants to move on with his life. scott macfarlane, news 4. looks like bethesda headquarters will be bigger than first thought. the washington business journal reports the $600
