lightning associated with this. we've had some rotation. that's where we had the wind gust of close to 70 as there was a tornado warning there. now i'm watching this storm right here moving in towards jefferson county and louden, but very strong storm, this one, too, about to come through frederick, watch out here. here is frederick around the 4:08. in about 5 to 10 minutes in frederick, you want to make sure you get inside, make sure you're ready for a storm come through that could produce upwards of 60 to 70 mile an hour winds. that's going to change our weather in through the day tomorrow. now, we go to the other big weather story, amelia here is the latest look on irma. >> ever in the atlantic, maximum sustained winds of 185 miles an hour. take a look at what you need to know. be aware of what you're reading on social media. we do not

all right. doug. we're following some breaking news here in the district where a teenager has been stabbed inside a prestigious private school. news 4, pat collins is at the school thousand. pat, what are you hearing about what happened and about the victim and the suspect in this case? >> well, this is probably the last place you'd expect to find a crime scene. but, indeed, that's what it became today. we're at the british international school. and we believe this happened on the third floor of the school, over here. police say a 13-year-old student was stabbed, not once, but twice in the shoulder with the scissors. he was rushed to the hospital by ambulance. they say he's expected to be okay. he's expected to do fine.

a girl, a girl who they say is the daughter of a diplomat and because that, she has face -- faces no charges. here now from inspector mike with the metropolitan police. >> the case is under investigation right now. the suspect has been identified. however, because of their diplomatic status, there's going to be no arrest at this time. any questions regarding the diplomatic status can be referred to the state department. >> reporter: so we have a 13-year-old boy stabbed twice in the shoulder. he's expected to be okay. the suspect, daughter of a diplomat, she'll face no charges because of diplomatic immunity. police do continue to investigate. parents were notified by text of this. we'll have reaction from them coming up at 5:00, now, back to you. >> pat collins, thanks, pat. now to the major change in mi

today. president trump's plan to end daca. >> that program protects young people who were brought to the united states with children without proper documents. now, the president is giving congress six months to develop a new policy. blayne to break it down for us. >> reporter: as you can imagine, this is a decision that is drawing an emotional response here on capitol hill as members come back for their first day. an emotional response from both sides. some are calling the decision cruel and heartless. others say it does not go far enough. meanwhile nationwide thousands of people are taking to the streets in protests. from the white house gates, to the shadow of trump tower, from coast to coast an angry outcry against president trump's decision to end daca. the obama era policy allowing undocumented immigrants who came to america as children to remain in the u.s. >> this does not mean they are

right now this afternoon. first at 4:00, fairfax county family may finally get some answers after the murder of their son. today, i.c.e. agents announced the arrest of ms 13 gang member in georgia. he's accused of killing 11th grader carrillo last month. police arrested him outside a gas station last friday. a man suspected of killing one person and seriously wounding another is now in custody after a huge manhunt in maryland. brian pierce turned himself in this morning. deputies say he shot two men outside of his home in indian head in charles county yesterday. one of the victims, robert branson, died. investigators tell us pierce knew both of the victims but they're still trying to figure out why he may have shot them. new today, the driver accused of running over and killing a little b

as daca, claiming the program that helps young undocumented immigrants, stand a looming legal battle. to tell us what's happening right now. >> and organized one of several. >> reporter: this is called united we dream. they're taking to the streets. this is exactly the same scene that we've seen across the city this afternoon. people protesting against the trump administration's decision to end daca. many of the people you see here are dreamers themselves, those who have benefited that allows them to stay in the united states even though they were brought here from children as illegally. we spoke with some of them who ld

it's one of the most powerful to form in the inland. morgan is in san juan. >> this is what you call -- the calm before the storm. a state of emergency has already been issued in florida and here in puerto rico ahead of this now category 5 hurricane irma. that means today is all about preparation. the people here we've spoken to, we're caribbean people, we're use to heavy wind and rain, especially during this time of the year. but a category 5, that's a completely different beast. that's why the national guard has already been activated. more than 200 fema troops are already on the ground and almost 500 emergency shelters have been set up all throughout the island. back in florida, people are gearing up with food, gasoline, supplies. because authorities there are saying we can't afford to not pay attention to hurricane irma. 67 counties are under a state of emergency. this is an event that's been described as catastrophic, major ande

that's barrelling towards us as we speak. for nbc news, i'm morgan radford. >> meanwhile back here, doug, what's the latest on our radar. >> we've got a lot to talk about, too, part of the area under severe thunderstorm warning. you see it right here in towards carol county, louden county, jefferson county, as well as clark county, this warning going until -- rather, 4:30. new warning possibly up. you can hear what's going on with our radar system here. but we're tracking these storms as they move off towards the east. notice the areas in pink here. these are severe thunderstorm watch in effect. this one was for culpepper county. taking a look, here is frederick, you notice right through downtown frederick getting that severe storm right now in through parts of jefferson county and clark county, let's zoom in towards the frederick area. you notice what we're seeing, a lot of lightning associated with this. we saw winds upwards of 60 to 70 mi

area. this is right along 15 here. heads up right through downtown frederick, around the middle town area. middleton getting hit pretty hard by this storm. another strong storm right here, look at all the lightning right over towards karcarls town unti 4:30. more storms from winchester right on down towards front royal. look at this guy right here. very strong storm. this one will come just to the north, south of winchester in towards blue ridge. a very dangerous situation here with these storms as they continue to rumble on through. when you see what's happening. we've got a line of strong storms here, strong cold front moves on through the region. this line moves through. brings in much cooler weather. today we're in the 80s, tomorrow only in the 70s, good chance of rain. hurricane irma, an incredible storm. wind right now at 185 miles per hour. look how close it is towards the islands here. we have the u.s

puerto rico, all under hurricane warnings. this storm, fortunately for puerto rico, watch the track here. first off take a look at the latest advisory, the next one coming up about 145 minutes. you do not see that very often. last time we had that that was wilma, rita and katrina back in 2005 moving west at 14 miles per hour. on that track coming very close to the islands which will be devastating, just north of puerto rico. they're still going to get extremely hard by this storm. north of the island and then this is where things start to diverge. saturday morning 8:00, 150 miles an hour winds. notice on sunday morning 8:00, 145 miles an hour winds in through the miami area. i want to draw two lines for you. there are two distinct areas here that the models are converging on, one is a path that actually takes it this way, right up the coast in towards florida.

be the european, takes it towards parts of cuba, up towards in towards fort myers. both of them -- both of these lines the easter line and the western line, both of them hit fl d florida extremely hard. there are a few that take it farther out to the gulf, which could be better news for florida. right now, florida under the gun. that's why they have those evacuations already for parts of monroe county. 73 degrees tomorrow, scattered showers, cooler and cloudy. tomorrow not the best day. look what we've got coming. thursday, friday, saturday, sunday, monday, all looking good. plenty of time for us to track irma. remnants coming up here, possibly, middle of next week with some rain across our area, but nothing like what they'll see down to the south. all right, doug. thanks a lot. a woman says her heart is broken. >> her brother's raised in montgomery county, ripped from the rest of the family.

weather alert this afternoon as we track severe thunderstorms moving through the area, not only torrential downpours but very strong winds that could lead to some wind damage as well. walkersville, frederick, new market, or some heavier rain moving in, now they head further down to the south, they're also seeing some of that heavy rain and it's going to get a

how great the first day of school is. >> i'm sure they couldn't wait to get back. >> children at prince georges kou county go back tomorrow. tracee wilkins is at fair mont high school and she talked with students at freshman orientation today. hey, tracee. >> reporter: yeah, today freshman got an introduction to this school. take a look at the of the side of it. it is absolutely beautiful, as you said, state of the art. i want to bring your attention over this way, beyond the tennis courts, beyond the basketball courts, that's the football field. it's a turf field and there above that field, lights. alumni of this school, they know they never had a football field with lights, let alone turf field. it is an amazing school here. they've got a lot of green space, including some on the roof so science students can walk out of their classes on to green space. they've got a g

louden county, this is until 7:30, or rather 5:30 for this severe thunderstorm warning that is right there around the royal area, just to the north. this storm really means business, as far as the wind is concerned. we could see winds with this one, upwards of 60 to 70 miles per hour. you see this storm up here just to the north of leesburg. more storminess, this is the storm we're watching. severe thunderstorm warning in effect until 5:30. here is the whole line itself moving on through the region. this is a cold front that will bring cooler weather tomorrow. still tracking to see the latest advisory and amelia is here with that. >> i want to show you the latest on what we're seeing visually of the storm system. this is so impressive. this is the strongest storm ever, it doesn't count the gulf and caribbean. take a look at the storm system. it is bringing

impacts to parts of the virgin islands. puerto rico throughout the day tomorrow. quick look at the track, it doesn't look like they've updated it just yet and, they being the national hurricane center. moving to the west at 14 miles per hour, tracking just north of puerto rico throughout the day tomorrow, especially during the morning hours and passes as it starts to take aim towards cuba, it does weaken, potentially, to a category 4 hurricane. that is still a major hurricane and then impacts parts of the keys, miami, sending it right around 8:00 a.m. we're hearing that it will be under mandatory evacuation tomorrow morning. likely miami getting under evacuation as well. you want to be where social media with this storm. if i were doug or myself, we'll be posting out exactly what we know. there's no such thing as a category 6. i know that's been out there and the high impact around the u.s. southern florida hg
