during the overnight that had it shift a bit. it's continuing to stay north of hispaniola, and north of cuba. heading through south florida. earlier updates had it curving west. latest information sheena and i got overnight, shifted this track over to the east. category four into south florida, key largo, the keys, florida strait there, that won't be until sunday. again, we are watching this. this is the cone of uncertainty. once we get four or five days out, it could move and shift anywhere from 175 miles to 225 miles. want to make that a fact. it could shift out to the atlantic. we will watch this as we get closer. again, this track of the latest coming in since 5:00. >> thank you, lauren. members of virginia taskforce one have been home less than 24 hours from saving lives in hurrican harvey, they're getting

another possible deployment to florida. cameras were there as members of the taskforce reunited with families. >> darcy spencer is live with more on the reunions and how they feel about deploying again so soon. darcy, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. we are here in chantilly. venturing to guess first good night's sleep the team members have gotten in a couple of weeks. if you look here, this is one of the boats taken to texas. part of the mission was swift water rescue. this type of equipment was very critical to the mission. let's go ahead and show you video from last night when they got back late last night. again, they had to unload all of that equipment from the two week mission there in texas. many of them seeing devastation that they say they've never seen before. these are experienced people who have gone out to many natural disasters. one thing they were saying was important to them, generosity of the

less local school districts in the area. >> we are helping you get ready for school. justin finch is live in landover as prince george's county kids prepare to go back to class. exciting morning. justin, good morning to you. >> reporter: exciting morning indeed, right now, i hear a bus going by us right now. drivers are showing up. the buses are gassing up. they'll soon be on the roads to pick up students for the first day back to school. more than 200 schools are opening today. more than 130,000 students will be heading to class this morning, a very exciting day. i am joined by john white from the school system. john, the buses here, you have to wonder, are there enough buses to serve students going back? >> we have all groups covered, do what it takes to make sure every child is picked up. we serve 85,000 students on

two for thousands of kids in the area. most maryland school districts and several in virginia returned to class yesterday. >> montgomery county public schools was one of the districts. superintendent jack smith welcomed students as they opened their doors. the superintendent also stopped by paint branch high school, one of the 205 schools. and all of that space is needed, enrollment is up by more than 2,000 students. here's some of the other top stories at 5:09. president trump pushing congress to act on deferred action for childhood arrivals or daca program. this comes hours after the attorney general announced the end of that program with six month delay. the president took his message to twitter, saying if congress doesn't legalize it, he will revisit the issue. it is unclear what that means. >> meanwhile, the outrage over the president's decision on

across the country. hundreds chanted yes we can outside the white house and marched down pennsylvania avenue in protest of the decision. daca protects some 800,000 young undocument immigrants from deportation while they work or go to school. he pled guilty for killing his estranged wife before going on a shooting spree. he will be sentenced in prince george's county today. he already received four consecutive life terms for the deaths of two people in montgomery county. today he faces life without parole again. prince george's county bureau chief tracee wilkins will be inside the courtroom. today we may learn what happens next to a popular trail closed for purple line construction. nobody able to use the georgetown branch trail or will be able to for the next five years. opponents filed for a temporary restraining order to lift that closure. folks that use the trail say they weren't given enough notice ou

impact. first, check with storm team meteorologist lauren ricketts. >> good morning. this is a monster of a hurricane. we had the latest updates came in. skirting across the lesser antilles, virgin islands, north of puerto rico, hispaniola, dominican republic. this is going to continue to move north. let me show you what's happening. winds are still about 185 miles per hour. on the heels of it, we have tropical storm jose. going to talk about that in a bit. let's get to irma's track, winds at 185 miles per hour. it continues to move north. going through friday morning, again just looking at not even the florida strait. after this weekend, sunday morning, that's where we look at it moving to south florida. this track shifted to the east with the 5:00 a.m. update that came in 33 minutes ago. category three as it moves into southern florida. a lot of this area southf

again, they have been away for a couple of weeks. some of the team members telling us that they've never seen devastation quite like this before. they have been deployed to many other natural disasters in the past. but this was definitely unique. one of the things they commented about was all of the people there, many of them having their own boats, going out on the streets or where the streets used to be and is now flood waters and doing some of their own rescuing. they say they were impressed by the people of texas. >> the biggest thing for us was the generosity and compassion from my officers, both to us and to each other. it was universal. i didn't see a harsh language, people had no reason to be angry. >> reporter: that's a good feeling, you go to an area hit by natural disaster and the people are welcoming and they're very grateful that you're there. it's a good feeling for them to come ho

before, over and over, to do something on immigration. part of the key seems to be can they stick to just this one issue or will they try to pull in other things like funding for the border wall that could bring things to a screeching halt with a limited amount of time. also important to note, one of the rules is that people were coming under daca, have one month now to apply to extend their status two years, it is a rolling phase out. it means they're going to try to squeeze 800,000 potential recipients, immigrants into this system in the course of a month. it could be a big crunch, trying to get statuses updated. >> tracie potts, live on capitol hill. thank you. 11 before the hour. those that are protected by daca are waking up this morning unsure what the future holds for them. they're getting ready to go to work or school, worrying whether they face deportation in six months. news4 spoke with a daca

recipient in montgomery county, she broke down when asked what she would say to the president if he was sitting in front of her. >> just please have a heart. be compassionate. there's people out here who want to make a good living and better themselves and this is the place to do it. >> her mother flew her family to the u.s. from guatemala in 2001. she was just four years old. her mother got a tourist visa that expired six months later. she works at ben and jerry's, attend montgomery college and avoid deportation. self driving cars may be put on a fast track. the u.s. house is set to vote on a bill that could put the futuristic cars into gear next to you on the roads. the proposal would also allow automakers to deploy up to 25,000 of the self driving cars without meeting existing auto safety standards in the first year. some consumer groups

without a driver, you want safety on it. road emergency quickly turned into a miracle. >> prince george's county police officer went to help a couple stopped on the east west highway, when he realized the mother was sitting in the back seat. the couple had already been to the hospital for contractions but they were sent back home. everything seemed calm, they seemed calm. they were headed back to providence hospital they said. the sergeant let them go, but a few miles later, the dad pulled over. the sergeant went to help that time, he had to jump into action. >> it was game time, her child was coming out. i literally caught the baby as he came. i was just praying for him to cry. >> my goodness, can you imagine that situation. apparently this officer has never done it, he kept saying to himself don't mess it up. when the baby's cries came, he couldn't hold back the tears. how cute is
