storm. >> hurricane irma has left a wide trail of einstruction in its wake. tonight thousands are stuck in it with another hurricane lurking. >> news 4 begins now with storm team 4. >> that cone of uncertainty that we've been hearing about for days is like a very large target tonight. the powerful and deadly hurricane taking direct aim at florida with the first to below in at this time tomorrow. we're covering a lot of angles. but we'll start in the storm center. >> has the track changed any in the last few hours. >> changed just a little bit. we talked about these variations. we're going to see small variations over the next couple days here. over the next 24 hours, when it makes landfall in florida, tomorrow into sunday. here's the first big change. saying i think it might hit

the computer model still bringing it along the cuban coast line and back into florida. this will help to weaken the storm a little bit. as it moved into cuba it strengthened. this is a very unpopulated invite cube and islands. that's very good news for them. it will move back up into a very populated area. let's show you the track. the latest advisory came out. it went up to a category 5. moving to the west at 13 miles an hour. this is a new track here. making its way up 5, becoming a 4 because of the interaction with cuba and moving up toward south portions of florida as a very strong category 4. across the keys, coming inland toward the naples reason, up toward fort myers and v

forecasters warn nothing about irma will be easy. news 4 david culver continues our coverage with a eerie seen in the miami area tonight. >> reporter: if you've gone to south beach, you've probably never seen it look like this on a friday night. david, what's the story there? >> reporter: both of you have been down here to south beach and you know normally on a friday night, during beautiful weather, you wouldn't be able to drive down ocean drive like we are. you wouldn't be able to pull up here in front of the clevelander and be able to park. a beautiful night, this pace would be packed. but this is the reality ahead of irma. as i get out here. give you a sense of thing. lot of folks here have decided to go ahead and oe bliej to the emergency evacuation, the mandatory evacuation, most of them decided to leave. we caught up

only word that comes to mind. >> if you have been to south beach, you really understand what he's talking about. david, do you get the feeling that there's more anxiety or less anxiety as the storm gets closer? >> reporter: it's kind of a mix. for the most part i think people who have decided to stay feel like they have stocked up enough. but you still see as we were coming here to south beach, the lines at the gas station, and there are limited gas stations, the reality is some of these lines will still sit for about 45 minutes, and that's if you can fined a station that has gas. that's the struggle as folks decide whether to stay or go. for the most part, many that have decided to stay are just trying to hunker down and do their best. >> you can't outrace the storm at this point. >> all right david. we appreciate that. stay safe down there. folks you'll see a lot more of david o t

ready for irma's landfall, he'll be tracking the storm from florida. don't miss his live reports. tonight one person is dead after a food truck that used to be a school bus crashed into a car in loudoun county. the accident happened on ever green mills road before 5:00, three adults inside the food truck were treated with minor injuries, but they had to remove the bus from on top of the car. there were five people there inside the car, they were trapped more than two hours. one of them died. the other four, a adult and three kids, were all taken to the hospital. no word yet on their condition or what caused that crash. a pregnant mother of two was set on fire today. and even with her body badly burned, she was able to del prince george county it wa h

weakening. that would be good news. i was looking at a satellite picture. this is a very unpopulated area of cuba right in here. these are called the cuba keys. not a lot of land year. there's a lot of islands associated with this. this may not weaken at all. but on the back side should become pa category 4. ist was strengthing as it was coming into cuba. here's the official forecast, as i understand of 160 miles an hour, moving to the west at 13 miles an hour. >> if it stays west, it moves into the island, weaken just a bit, but expected to stay on a north westerly track, coming into the florida keys, making land fafl, sunday morning, 150 miles an hour hurricane, that is a devastating hurricane to the florida keys, and then this is new, this is what we talked about, that shift to the west. the longer it

the father west it goes, this brings it over naples and fort myers at 130 miles an hour. now, a little better for the miami area. i'm going to show you what i'm talking about. it'll be the northeast quadrant, yes incredible amounts of storm surge in and around the miami area, especially harnd homestead, the wind 170 miles an hour in key west, and coming into the key west area, 97 key west, 65 in miami, early sunday, then 127 in key west, 90, there is the center of the circulation coming right through naples, naples goes over 127 miles an hour, gusts could be higher than this, close to 100 around the miami area. miami downtown may not see the strongest wind, it may be in the western zone here. but the entire southern portion of florida under hurricane warnings and watch ex pends from daytona beach to the tampa area. and a storm surge warning all the

florida from tampa to fort piercing, some of the latest numbers, 8 to 12 feet of storm surge, especially around the naples area and into the everglades, down toward homestead, a lot of homes in the homestead area which was hit so hard by andrew in 1992. after this it moves through the state of florida, over tampa, weakness to a tropical storm toward southern georgia, and then moves in towards portions of the tennessee river valley here. for us, we're not going to see much of it at all. maybe shower activity next tuesday. this will not be a big factor for us. a lot of people continue to ask me about that. our weather looking great t-saturday and sunday perfect for the redskins opener, 1:00 game there as we take on the eagles. 75 degrees on monday, there's a chance of showers on tuesday. we'll stay on top of this next couple days, there could gill be some
