just a minute. today this morning it feels really comfortable. the kids can get away with a light jacket this morning. around the area, temperatures are cool, 64 degrees in washington. maybe not as chilly as yesterday morning. 57 centreville, 55 twin brook and prince george's county temperatures are mostly in the upper 50s. so a cool start to your morning. once the sun comes up you'll notice clouds around. we have cloudy skies in the forecast today. this is from irma which is now a tropical depression but it's going to keep us on the cloudy sky with a chance for sprinkles mainly this morning and later on this afternoon. that's when we have a better chance for a couple passing showers. temperatures are only in the mid-70s. below normal for this type of year. average highs 81 degrees. we'll only stay in the 70s. now speaking of irma, it's already impacting part of your morning. we have a few light showers close to our area. let's head inside tohu

will be in court. he's charged with manslaughter and reckless endangerment. you may remember that the train derailed after leaving philadelphia in 2015. it hit a turn at 106 miles per hour and flipped on its side. eight people died and 200 were hurt. today the college park city council will vote on whether people who are not u.s. citizens can vote in u.s. elections. leading to some councilmembers receiving threats. college park would be the third city in prince george's county to allow the change in voting. hidesville and mt. ranier already allow noncitizens to vote in local elections. five minutes after the hour right now and this morning the search is on for a missing girl from greenbelt. police releasing this picture. she's 12 years old. take a good look here. she was last seen yesterday morning around 11:30 leaving the greenbelt community center. anyone who may have seen her or knows where she is is asked

call the greenbelt police department. it is 5:05. it happened again. a rider is accused of assaulting a metrobus driver in chinatown. abraham was on the bus sunday through the rear door and refused to pay his fare. then he allegedly started yelling at the driver and then another metro worker on the bus. abe hanl is charged with assault. an assault on bus operators is just one of the new numbers we are getting in a security report for metro. >> that report looks at the first six months of this year. adam tuss with a look at some of these numbers. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. overall crime is down on the metro system. 17%. there's certainly other areas where things are not going so well. take a look at this full screen graphic that we have for you to tell you about what is actually happening here. assaults against metro bus operators that is actually happening at

you guys just mentioned it right there. thefts from autos, things like disabled placards are being stolen from cars a lot more and sexual harassment complaints are up on the system. that is a problem that metro's trying to deal with right now. metro has really targeted some areas where they're trying to crack down on assaults against bus operators. they're going to be doing high visibility enforcement campaigns to get out there to make sure these things are not happening and there are a lot of other areas where metro transit police trying to nail down the crime and take the numbers down to where they should be at a level and this is something they've been working on for a number of years. overall crime is down but there is still some areas here are things are trending in the wrong direction, guys. >> what is metro doing about people who aren't paying fares? i know they're trying to work on that. >> reporter: there's been a serious crackdown on anyone who is not paying the fare and they actually say

a plea. >> justin finch is live outside what is now westfield wheaton mall with more on the possible plea here. good morning, justin. >> reporter: aaron, good morning. lloyd lee welch is expected to admit his role in the sister's death and disappearances today and now at long last the family of those two sisters who vanished without a trace could come closer to closure here. back in march of 1975, the faces of katherine and sheila lion were posted just about everywhere. they're missing persons case going on to make national headlines and now more than 40 years later, lloyd lee welch is facing a judge today. he is expected to plead guilty in the sister's death and disappearances. the lion case had grown cold until about 2013 after cold case investigators began closing in on welch who was already behind bars for another crime. now the sisters themselves, they were never found, prosecuto

remains at a large bon fire on his family owned property in the virginia area. now at that plea hearing today in virginia, welch is also expected to plead guilty to at least two sex assaults in prince william county, one of them includes the rape of a 6-year-old girl. back to you in the studio. >> live for us in wheaton, thank you. 14 after the hour right now and the toddler found a gun and accidently shot a 4-year-old girl. this happened friday night in fkt, virginia. now isaiah davis faces several felony charges in this incident including one count of abuse. the 4-year-old has been released from the hospital. the toddler was not injured. take a look at your screen right now. this is a missing teacher and maryland rescue crews are looking for him right now. he was last seen kayaking in the piney point area on saturday. yesterday he didn't show up for work.

traffic alternates by this work zone one direction at a time. back to you. >> thank you. it's 5:34 we continue to learn more about irma's path of death and destruction through the caribbean. the storm has killed ten people in cuba. most of the deaths were either caused by collapsing buildings or electric shock according to officials. more than 80% of the country does not have power and it could be months before electricity is fully restored. in georgia, two people were killed by falling trees in the atlanta area. a man in his 50s was killed when a large oak tree split and fell on to his house. another woman was killed when a tree came down on top of her car. and in central florida, dozens of people had to be rescue from flood neighbors. the heavy rain has caused many rivers and creeks to swell over their bafrpgz and that swent waters rushing down streets and into homes. rescuers pulled 45 people to safety. and we have some breaking

good news for all the people who had to get out of that state. >> airports reopening now. angie goff at the live desk with details. >> right now this is what we do know, though. shpeople will be able to get out, some people will be able to get in because ft. lauderdale international now saying they're resuming service. the airport didn't get that much damage from irma and they never lost power so that was a good thing. miami international mean while cleaning up right now. they're planning to reopen today. that is what they're hoping to do but if they say they do that it's with a limited schedule. also getting word today that southwestern united, both of those airlines now offering flights out of puerto rico, the u.s. territory that also felt the wrath of this storm of irma. now if you are traveling today or know somebody who is, always a good idea to contact the airline and confirm if your flight can get in or

the charles county sheriff's office was watching three children at small wonders day care yesterday as she was cooking a 2-year-old boy slipped through a back door on to the aboveground pool deck and fell into the water. when she found him the woman tried performing cpr, the little boy died at the hospital. neighbors with pools in that area say they have taken extra precautions with their children. >> one of the things we do offer, we do have is alarms on the doors so if some kid does come out it's up high, so we know somebody's in the back wrurd. the news4 i-team checked the day care was inspected in june and cited for bookkeeping areas but no safety errors. he entered the bus sunday through the rear door and refused to pay his fare. he then started yelling at the driver and another metro worker on the bus. abraham is chargedit

people died in that storm, also new this morning, mexico's president just meeting with his cabinet hoping to come up with the next action to take in response to both of these natural disasters. back to you. >> angy, thank you. a pizza hut manager in florida threatened to punish employees who miss shifts by evacuating too early for hurricane irma. the manager of the jacksonville restaurant said workers were only allowed to evacuate 24 hours before the storm and if they left early, they'd be written up. it also said that employees would be required to return to the city within 72 hours of an evacuation. pizza hut said it's local franchise operator has addressed this situation with the manager. >> is it because they expect the pizza ordering to be very high? >> it's weird, because disney and universal studios are reopening today. ft. lauderdale was getting that sand off those roads

frederick so comfortably cool for the morning hours. here is tropical depression irma now snerd right on the georgia/alabama line. the rain extending very far north and locally just a few sprinklings but look at all the cloud cover. we have very light rain off luray, winchester, across 81 here. that's mostly going to move to the north here. we're not looking at heavy rain for the morning commute at all. exercise forecast looking really good today. 7:00 a.m. temperatures in the mid-60s. by lunchtime, low 70s, very comfortable. clouds will hang around. best chance of passing showers later on this afternoon with temperatures in the mid-70s. here is future weather so you see that rain trying to move in today trying to struggle. we have a chance for few showers. tomorrow morning i think we'll see early morning showers in the forecast so remember that before you leave. as far as the rest of the week's concerned. the rain chance is going to stick around through friday but temperatures get back into the 80s and so far the weekend looks pretty good. let's check the roads right now
