and is she or isn't she? we have the national zoo's latest panda pregnancy update. we'll get to all the stories in a minute. but first, breaking news out of london. >> chris lawrence at the live desk with details. chris, what's going on? >> eun, aaron, something exploded on a london subway train. it sent a fireball shooting through the train. right now the authorities have declared this a terrorist incident. take a look at this picture. this is a white bucket on the floor of the train. you can see flames and what look like wires coming out of it. it was left in a plastic bag near the rear of the train and authorities say this homemade device debt naded at the height of rush hour. london is about five hours ahead of us. thousands were coming into the city for the morning commute. want to take you to pictures from the scene as paracs

responders descended on this subway system. we have heard witnesses say they saw several people hurt, covered in blood. they say they heard a flash and a bang on the tube line. some passengers are said to have suffered some facial burns. others were hurt in the rush to get out. apparently this detonated just as the train was pulling into the station. people rushed to get out of exits. people in the station were trying to get out and there were some people trampled in that rush to escape. back here with the live desk, we can tell you that the prime minister is going to convene an emergency meeting of national security officials to talk about this incident. that will be coming up in a few hours. we'll stay on top of the story for you. eun, back to you. >> chris lawrence, thanks. we'll keep checking in with chris for the latest on this developing story. now we want to help you get your friday started on time. >> in a few minutes, we'll talk to molette green checking out a hidden gem. many of you have told us

you may remember seeing her face. this is a significant development because now she's moving closer to trial, which is also a significant development because she's spent the last few years in a psychiatric hospital after being found mentally unfit to stand trial. now the mystery surrounding her children continues to grow. where is 3-year-old sarah and 2-year-old jacob. no one seems to know. she has yet to tell authorities where they are. of course, past efforts to find them have turned up nothing. it trns out that her initial charges were misdemeanors and set to expire today. the sources also telling us that in just a matter of hours, this afternoon, she will face that indictment for her children's murder in district court today. back to you in the studio. >> justin, thank you. developing this morning, we're learning more about the final moments of laura wallen's life. it is

last night police confirmed how the pregnant teacher was killed. news 4's chris lawrence is in the newsroom with more. such a sad ending, chris. >> you said it, eun. wallen was shot in the back of the head. detectives say the man who pulled the trigger was her boyfriend and the father of her unborn child. investigators think tyler tessier weaved an elaborate web of lie toss cover up the crime. the nine-day search started at wallen's home and ended in a field in damascus. chopper 4 was over the shallow grave where she was found. tessier was living a double life. he asked her father for permission to marry her despite being engaged to another woman. am police say right before her death, wallen learned that she wasn't the only woman in tessier's life. you can go to the nbc washington app. we've posted the text message that wal

it is seven minutes after the hour. for the second time in just a few weeks, north korea launched a ballistic missile over japan. the u.n. security council will have a meeting today. in a quick show of force, south korea responded with a test of its own. japan called it a dangerous, provocative action. the aftermath of hurricane irma. fema is expected to give a response at 8:so. this comes after president trump toured a southwest florida neighborhood damaged by hurricane irma. look at all the devastation. residents helping in an outdoor lunch line. the president said we're with florida 100%. >> we are learning more about the people who died at a south florida nursing home.

we begin at 6:30 with that breaking news out of london. there was some kind of explosion on a subway. we just found out 18 people are in the hospital. >> no one has died in the incident. police are treating this as a terrorist incident at this point. you're looking at a photo from a man who said he believes this is what sparked the blast. we also have live pictures coming in from london. people were evacuated from the parsons green station. the subway service there has been suspended at this point. chris lawrence is following all of this from the live desk. we'll get an update from him in a minute. right now, we want to get a check of the forecast and the commute. chuck bell as a look at the weekend forecast and then somara theodore and wtop's jack taylor as well. >> chuck, how it feeling? >> tweeting out a picture of the

it is the second aggressive test flight over an american allies territory in less than a month. it comes a couple weeks after the north conducted its most powerful nuclear test. south korea immediately responded by carrying out a ballistic missile test of its own. while u.s. officials are asking that russia and china do more to reign them in. kim jong un said you can impose whatever you want, they can last a hundred years to a thousand, we'll continue our test. you want to keep it here on nbc. the "today" show will have more on this in a little bit. >> defiant messages there. we're working for you this morning. the pregnant teacher whose body was found in a damascus field was shot to death. laura wallen was shot in the back of her head. her boyfriend, tyler tessier was arrested for her death. prosecutors say he was leading a

that may have been his motive. today, catherine hoggle will appear in court. sources confirm that she has been charged with two counts of murder for the deaths of her children, sarah and jacob. hoggle was the last person seen with the kids in september of 2014. she had faced several charges, including child neglect but was not competent to stand trial. dozens of events may impact how you get around d.c. this weekend. >> megan mcgrath is working on the national mall with the closures you need to know about. megan, it's going to get quite busy down there. >> reporter: yeah. we have a lot of different events. big crowds expected. many of those things are happening in the area around the national mall. you would expect that the smithsonian metro would be the choice for getting around. not so. for security reasons, law enforcement asked fwor the station to be closed. we'll see a lot of road closures in the area.

also a section of independence avenue and a lot of other roads in that area. now, what's going on? one of the big events is being billed as the mother of all rallies. president trump supporters will dpaer at st. 12th and the national mall and will rally from there. another event, another rally. a group called the juggalos, they are fans of a rock rap group called the insane clown posse. they're upset that the fbi labeled them a gang. they're going to be protesting on saturday as well starting around the lincoln memorial. lots going on and it's going to be all hands on deck for the police. >> events going on -- we're working on saturday and they'll be working 12-hour shifts. we'll have plenty of cops here to handle what we need to handle. >> reporter: police are not expecting any problems. everything should be peaceful. but we have a number of street festivals. there's a nats game. just a lot going

another terror attack in london. >> a lot of information coming in. a bright spot too, chris, is that right? >> no one has life-threatening injuries from what police are calling a terrorist incident. we've also learned that they're now saying this came from a homemade bomb. an improvised explosive device. as the morning has gone on, we've heard about people catching fire running to get off the train. you're looking at a photo from a man who thinks this is the device that sparked the blast. look at that. it was a bucket with some sort of wires poking out of it. police, paramedics, firefighters, a haz-mat team all responded to this. we saw officers on the tracks and people being walked away. i just heard from a woman who lives next to the tube station who said she was taking her son out to walk him to school
