weav we'll warm up to the low to mid 80s. it is muggy out there. we have a little fog, as well. be mindful of that if you're making your way out there. visibilities are cut down a little bit. we'll talk about today's weather and also talk about the weekend. more importantly, the tropics. i'll show you the latest satellite and radar from them and the track of jose. all that coming up in about 15 minutes. >> a lot to get to. see you then. breaking news coming in the last few minutes out of london. police are arresting a man in connection with that homemade bomb on the subway. so far, all we know is he's about 18 years old. it's been a little more than 24 hours since that bomb went off at a train. it did not completely explode like it was designed to. the terror threat level in britain is as high as it can get right now, critical. it means people there should expect, quote, an imminent attack. 29 people hurt, most were burned. it was the fifth act of

at 6:03, save yourself some stress today. if you don't have to, maybe avoid going down here the national mall. it's because the national park service issued permits for more than 35 events today. not only will a lot of the streets be closed to cars but the smithsonian metro station is going to be shut down, as well, angie. >> the big events will be protests. democracy march wants the president to punish russia. this is one of the fliers for the mother of all rallies, m.o.a.r., which backs the president. >> it's to basically stand up for our freedom and support our white house and our president. i'm all about that. if they want to be here, i encourage them to join us. >> police will be out in full force today. we have a complete list of the road closures in our

washington app. also, a pro-confederacy rally is going to happen in the southern part of the state of virginia, richmond, today a little more than a month after the violence turned deadly in charlottesville. organizers say they want to protect the statue of the confederate general robert e. lee. the group is coming from out of state. counterprotests are organizing, as well. police agencies are working together to make sure things do not get out of hand. when many of us went to bed last night, these protests in st. louis were peaceful, but this morning, that has changed. police have arrested 32 people who were demonstrating after a white former police officer was acquitted of murdering a black man. 11 officers were hurt in the protests last night.

guilty. he shot smith after a chase six years ago. smith died. you're look at the more peaceful protests earlier in the day. during that, the mayor praised police and demonstrators for showing what she described as self-control. not long after midnight, people started throwing bricks and setting fires. let's bring you back home. an officer-involved shooting that ended in the death of a 15-year-old boy. >> a lot of questions still out there. it started with reports of a hostage ate sisituation and a pe bomb. police say the boy threatened them. we spoke with a classmate in virginia who says he saw it all. >> it was just terrifying. it was horrific. >> reporter: lee sayings he saw prince william county police shoot and kill his neighbor, a 15-year-old boy, who he says goes to his high school. >> the fact i

down after he got shot three times, i just -- i never knew fear until i saw that. >> reporter: a.j. is 14 years old himself. he is still shaken by what he saw from his back porch. it was 10:45 in the morning. >> that's one of the people that i don't really know but they go to school with me. i didn't expect to see someone i walk past in the hall just drop. >> reporter: a.j.'s mom says -- >> it's shocking. i know he saw something he shouldn't have saw. >> reporter: police saw an officer shot and killed the teen after he came at them with a crowb crowbar. police received a 911 call from inside the house. the caller said the teen had a bomb strapped to his chest and was holding a family member hostage. the shooting happened in front of the home. >> the officers gave him several commands to stop and put down the crowbar, which he did not obey. >> reporter: a.j.'s mom wish

doesn't seem to be slowing down any time soon. right now, jose is back to hurricane strength in the atlantic. the latest storm track has some states in the northeast pro pairing for some rough surf and maybe more. marinas in connecticut are warning people to take early precautions. hurricane sandy flooded some of those people five years ago, so they're not taking warnings lightly. >> dutch soldiers can be seen helping hurricane victims in st. martin clean up on the islands, much slower than in florida, where recovery is picking up speed following the deadly storm. the lights and, more importantly, the ac coming back on. crews say it could take weeks to restore full power. officials say nearly 2 million customers are without power, including 64 nursing homes. one of those nursing homes is at the center of a criminal investigation and a new lawsuit. >> that's right. this morning, we are seeing cell phone video from

home, the night before it was evacuated. just imagine for a moment going in to check on your parents and finding this. a woman, she filmed this video after seeing the conditions her parents were living in. both of the parents have dementia. we obtained the video from our sister station in miami. you can see windows open, fans are blowing, while the couple lays in their beds, emerged in swelters heat. the woman's sister said their dad had to be taken to the hospital. >> my father have 102 fever, unconscious. >> unconscious. >> and also dehydrated. >> wow. their parents are now doing okay, thank goodness. but an emergency lawsuit has been filed by the family of one of the eight people who did die after the facility lost the ac because of irma. switching gears now to some ways you can spend your weekend. the joint base

slows, i've noticed the last couple days, couple weeks, and it skips. again, here's the track. it skipped the first frame, but you can see it moving just off the east coast as a category 1 hurricane. they may put a tropical storm watch along the border of north carolina for this. otherwise, no direct impact here in the united states yet. we'll continue to watch that track. temperatures in the 50s and 60s right now. we're warming up into the low to mid 80s. only a slight chance of a pop-up shower. if you're headed to the h-street festival, a little muggy but it'll be pleasant. if you're headed out tonight, looking good, as temperatures fall through the 70s. back to the low to mid 80s tomorrow with a chance of a passing shower. not a lot going on in the 10-day forecast. plenty of sunshine. temperatures day in the low to mid 80s as jose tracks u

fall victim to scams, the elderly in fairfax county are vulnerable. there are a lot over 65 in their homes. they tend to be more trusting. they tend to be wealthier. they tend to be more likely to suffer from dementia or loneliness. this week, fairfax county launched operation silver shield. it is a coordinated effort among county agencies to educate seniors on how to protect themselves from scammers. there are some recommendations. >> be very cautious of agreeing to work that stems from door to door solicitation. if you actually need work, i would highly encourage people to get references, speak to family members, get multiple estimates for the work that you need and make an informed decision. >> some protections already in place. >> fairfax county has

what a beautiful view of our nation's capital. it is not too bad feeling out there. now, it does feel a little muggy. temperatures are in the upper 60s right now. again, it is going to feel muggy throughout the day today. know that because we haven't been dealing with the humidity it seems like at all this summer. temperatures through the morning warming up to the mid 70s. by 9:00 a.m., a little humid, patchy fog. but no rain. we'll talk about rain chances over the weekend. and, of course, the tropics. that's coming up in a little bit. guys? 6:32. we're learning about another frightening incident on board a metro bus. a man with a gun threatened a driver. he also threatened passengers. police were able to arrest him, but the bus operators say it is the latest example of dangers on the job. news 4's jackie benson spoke with the driver on that bus this week, and it is a story you'll see only on news 4. >> they

forth. the aggressor in the situation said, i'll shoot every one of y'all on this bus. >> reporter: those are the words this metro bus operator, we're not identifying him, heard as he steered the bus through h street northeast thursday night. the passenger appeared to be in a heated argument with a small group of passengers. the man remained on until the end of the line and became threatening when the operator asked him to get off the bus. >> i repeated the question, can you get off the bus, please? i'm out of service. he grabbed his hip and said, make me. >> reporter: luckily, transit police were nearby. the arrest report indicates the man had two guns and cocaine on him. it is the same route where a bus operator was doused by urine from a passenger two weeks ago. the transit union shows letters of discipline sent to drivers who refuse to drive the route for a day in what they called a safety standdown. >> this is real.

this is not a joke. the authority needs to take this seriously. it is about safety. our operators and this riding public. >> reporter: in a statement to news 4 tonight, metro says it agrees with the union's call for enhanced penalties against those who assault drivers, and the ability to ban them from the system. he went on to say those who received reprimand letters for the safety standdown could have faced stiff eer penalties but d not. jackie benson, news 4. a man killed walking across a highway overnight. maryland state police say he was in the middle of route 301 in charles county when an suv hit him. he died. this happened north of smallwood drive last night. police say the driver of the suv did stay on the scene. the father of two children who have been missing for years says that he has held out hope, but now he's certain that the mother of his children murdered them. >> troy turner speaking at

news conference yesterday after catherine was charged with killing their children. jacob and sarah went missing three years ago. they've never been found. they'd be 5 and 6 years old this year. turner wants his children to have justice. >> i have held out hope that something else may have happened, as i think that any parent under these circumstances would. but it is always been a faint hope. >> well, mental health professionals have repeatedly found hogel not competent to stand trial. she would have been released if prosecutors did not file additional charges. developing, we found out that controversial rule to allow non-citizens to vote in college park is not happening. it would allow undocumented immigrants, some visa holders and legal permanent residents to vote in local elections. it appeared to pass 4-3 earlier this week after hours of debate, but the city council now says it actually takes a three

a d.c. trail that just opened may have to close soon for repairs. the clingle valley trail ribbon was cut in june, but emotion caused by heavy rain is already eating away at the trail. they're working with the contractor to make repairs. the mayor's office says the repairs will likely require closing the trail for, quote, as short of a window as possible. well, they are calling it part of the bigger program, project lifesaver. lounden county

deputies using a drone in their work. >> this could be the best way to find someone who is missing before it is too late. it's got one purpose, to find children and vulnerable adults who are likely to wander off. a drone you see there, it's got a special antenna attached to it that can track transmitters that you put on adults, and it looks like a watch. one couple signed up their autistic son after he wandered off from daycare two years ago. >> gives us peace of mind that, you know, we have law enforcement helping us. >> today's demo showed that somebody was recovered within, what, 15, 20 minutes. it's amazing. >> louden county is one of six places in the country that does this. he said 15 to 20 minutes. took 17 minutes from start to finish to find the transmitter. >> it is amazing. i know with the drone technology, we're trying to figure out a lot of things for rules and regulations, but the more we see stories like this, the more we find that these are going to be helpful tools. >> the county says

good morning. breaking news. captured. police in london make an arrest in connection with that terror attack inside a london subway. the arrest coming just a day after dozens were hurt in an incident that could have been far worse. while authorities there warn another attack could be imminent. breaking overnight, violent protests. dozens of people in st. louis under arrest after taking to the streets in anger hours after a white police officer was found not guilty in the shooting death of a black suspect. the protest making it all the way to the st. louis mayor's house as the officer speaks out about the deadly day. >> it was an imminent threat to my life.
