eastern sea board. no direct impacts for us. could be breezy with clouds on tuesday. dave? >> hang around. you, me, angie, back at 8:30, full hour of your news and weather. good morning. breaking news. captured. an 18-year-old man in custody this morning, detained in connection with the attack on a london subway. the arrest coming a day after 29 people were injured in an attack that police say could have been much worse, as authorities worry another attack could be imminent. breaking overnight, violent protests. nine officers injured and nearly two dozen people under arrest this morning after protesters took to the streets of st. louis, surrounding the mayor's home. the marchers, angry over the acquittal of a white police officer in the shooting death of a black suspect. this morning, that officer is speaking out. and no way, jose. another hurricane churning in

and skipping. >> bongo drums on the plaza this morning. where did the bongos go? give us some bongo. give us some bongo. >> we've got a fun crowd this morning. >> you know it is a party when the bongos show up. >> we have a lot to get to in our final half hour. let's begin with today's news. >> reporter: i'm keir simmons in london, where police here have arrested a suspect in connection with the subway bombing yesterday. the scotland yard will not say whether they believe this is the person who carried out the attack. police say an 18-year-old man is in custody today in connection with a bomb that partially detonated on a packed subway car here in london friday morning. they called it, quote, a significant arrest. the investigation ongoing in the incident authorities have called a terrorist attack. this was it.

>> reporter: a crude bomb made in a bucket, seen moments later on the subway floor, still in flames. >> the fire ball just engulfed the whole tube carriage, like the whole carriage was orange, like coming towards us. >> i heard the word explosion and fire, and we were just trapped. i thought, i'm going to die. >> reporter: 29 were injured, many were burns, others that have being trampled in the rush to escape. among them, children on their way to school. it could have been worse. authorities say the bomb didn't fully explode. >> though the attack was relatively ineffective, it is part of a series of quickening attacks in london. >> reporter: isis claimed responsibility for the attack, but there's no evidence of their involvement. it is the fifth time this year britain has been atarg target f terror. including the suicide bombing at an ariana grande concert and a car and stabbing attack outside parliament. authorities say today's arrest will lead to more police ac

presence was stepped up across the country. britain raising its terrorist threat level to critical, warning another attack could be imminent. this morning, in the last hour, london's mayor warning people here to expect more police activity today and in the days ahead. it is clear that the police race to prevent another attack, may not be over. >> keir, thank you. breaking news overnight in st. louis, where dozens of marchers were arrested when protests over police officer's acquittal turned violent. at least nine officers were injured, as well. blake mccoy is in st. louis this morning with more. blake, good morning. >> reporter: craig, good morning. the proest the it is turned violent after 1,000 protesters surrounded the home of st. louis's mayor. they lou red paint and rocks at the home, breaking several windows. that's when police officers moved in

disperse the crowd. it is not believed the mayor was home at the time. yesterday and overnight, ten officers were injured, 32 protests arrested. they were protesting after the acquittal of a white police officer in the 2011 police shooting of a black man, anthony lamar smith, following a high speed chase. the officer claims self-defense and said he saw smith reach for a gun. he waived his right to a jury trial. on friday, a judge sided with the officer. now, this case does have echoes of ferguson, with accusations of a coverup and evidence planting. that's why we've seen officers out in force here from the beginning, determined not to let things spiral out of control like they did in ferguson in 2014 following the killing of michael brown. more protests are planned here in st. louis later today. craig? >> blake mccoy in st. louis, thank you. let's take a look at other stories making headlines this morning. while the president is spending the day at his golf club in new jersey,

expected to flock to the capital for two separate events. one in support of thpridt and theth against. the pro-trump rally, dubbed the mother of all rallies, expressing their love for the america first agenda. juggalo is protesting against. the cleveland indians record run has come to an end after a gut-wrenching 4-3 loss overni t overnight. but their 22-game winning streak is major league baseball's longest in more than 100 years. that just a few wins away from the longest streak ever in the majors. the 1916 new york giants won 26 straight. the indians are now setting their sights on the world series. let's go to dave on the plaza with a final check of the weather. >> great crowd out here right now. we go over and see what i

back now on a back on a saturday morning with hundreds of pets who are left homeless after hurricane irma and their chance at a new home thanks to some dedicated nba players. >> members of the miami heat were out in force on friday, lending a helping hand and getting the pets to safety. here's nbc's morgan radford. >> reporter: these are some of hurricane irma's most vulnerable victims. 331 pets orphans by the storm, abandoned or left to die. >> the intake is more than usual. problem we have is that since we're closed due to the storm, people aren't coming in to adopt anima.

is on the way. members of miami heat basketball team rushed to the airport to feed, hydrate and pack the animals into crates before loading them on to a plane to evacuate them to safety. >> why did you come out to do this today? >> i mean, first, i'm an animal lover. i love animals. i have three dogs of my own. being from miami, an opportunity to come back and rebuild and helping out with everything that's going on with the hurricane. >> reporter: but the plane taking these pups to their new home is a cargo aircraft from california that had just dropped off relief supplies for hurricane victims, and one that shipping giant fedex decided shouldn't return unused. >> he said he wants to go home with me. >> reporter: so with 150 animals on board, miami's hottest team sends them off with love. flying them from the sunshine state to a golden one, to be welcomed by a team of warriors. >> we need more puppies. >> they nj

tropic we're watching, as well. we'll track them out coming up. >> all right. we are continuing to follow a few top stories that our partners at the "today" show were telling you about. london police have a man in custody right now in connection with the terror attack on a subway train. all we know is that he is 18 years old. the homemade bomb went off in the subway yesterday forcing evacuations and service outages. 29 people still recovering this morning. no one died though. right now, 11 police officers waking up with injuries after violent protests. hundreds of people in st. louis hit the streets after a white former police officer was acquitted of killing a black man. the protests were peaceful at first. we'll show you how they changed. that's coming up in the 9:00 hour. now, 8:31 right now. if you are thinking about heading out to the national mall today, you may want to come up with a plan b. >> a lot going on there. talking about multiple rallies being held y.

live with what you need to know about the closures and the rallies. hey, good morning. >> morning. >> reporter: hey, guys. good morning. angie, you said it, if you don't need to be down here, a plan b is a good idea. just to give perspective, the national park service says they have 35 permits they issued. 22 are around the national mall and d.c. area. if you're driving, this is what you're going to see. a lot of road closures around the national mall. let's give you a map so you can put things into perspective. all the roads leading to the national mall really are going to be closed. of course, you can search all the road cloe sur sures in our washington app. the smithsonian metro stop will be closed, as well. now, let's get to the rallies, shall we, to give you an idea of what's happening down here. let's start at 10:00 a.m. that's the anti-trump rally, expected to kick off. protesters are speaking out against the russian

they're demanding the government protect future elections by punishing russia for their actions. at 11:00, you're going to see the mother of all rallies. this group supports trump because he is the president, but they also say they're non-partisan. they say everybody is welcome. the only flag that's allowed is the american flag. they say this is more of a patriotic event. then you're going to have a group called the juggalos. they'll be marching down here, as well. they support a rock band called the insane clown posse, labeled as a gang back in 2011 by the fbi. they say they'll be out here today protesting, but also trying to show that they are, in fact, a peaceful group. so there's a lot going on down here. thousands of people are expected. coming up later on in the next half hour here, we're going to detail what security measures are in place and what the chief of police is saying about today. back to you. >> megan, thanks. you talked about a lot of en

even if you're not attending, this one with latina flare, the parade at 1:00 this afternoon. it'll run along toconstitution avenue, between 14th and 7th. it includes road cloclosures. they start at 11:00 and should be open by 6:00 tonight. the fiesta continues tomorrow with a festival. a pro-confederacy rally is happening also in southern virginia today, south of us. richmond, virginia. a little more than a month ago, remember how chaos turned into a deadly situation during a situation protest in charlottesville. organizers of today's protest say they want to protect the city's statue of confederate general robert e. lee. the group is coming from out of state.

counties across the state working to make sure things don't get out of control. developing while you were asleep, a man shot and killed. we found out about the homicide in the last hour or so. prince george's county police say someone killed a man on 67th place in riverdale. happened around 1:00 in the morning. they have not told us his name. as soon as we get more information, we'll pass it along. we turn to an officer-involved shooting that ended in the death of a 15-year-old boy. >> a story a lot of you have interest in. it started with reports of a hostage situation and a possible bomb. police say the boy threatened them. news 4's darcy spencer talked with a classmate in haymarket, virginia, who says he saw it all. >> it was just terrifying. it was whorrific. >> reporter: a.j. lee says he saw police shoot and kill his neighbor, a 15-year-old boy who he says goes to his high school. >> the fact i

times, i just -- i never knew fear until i saw that. >> reporter: a.j. is 14 years old himself. he's still shaken by what he saw from his back porch. it was 10:45 in the morning. >> that's one of the people that i don't really know but they go to school with me. i didn't expect to see someone that i walk past in the hall just drop. >> reporter: a.j.'s mom says -- >> it's shocking. i know that he saw something he shouldn't have saw. >> reporter: police say an officer shot and killed the tenm in haymarket after he came at them with a crowbar. police received a call from inside the house, saying the teen had a bomb strapped to his chest, holding a family member hostage. >> the officers gave him several commands to stop and put down the crowbar, at which point he did not obey them. >> reporter: a.j.'s mom says she wishes
