that's how it all began. one of the stand-out moments from the emmy awards. it's got d.c. public schools in the national spotlight. right now, d.c. public schools remain the top twitter trend in washington. good morning everyone. angie goff here with chuck bell who admits he did not watch the emmy awards. >> not one thing. i'm asleep by 7:30. >> i know you have something to say about some of these shows. we'll get to that and several stories. first, for the second day in a row, rolling in early, had to cut through a lot of fog. it looks likeeer dealing with low visibility again. >> certainly depends where you live. the more fog you're going to see. you have to cross over the potomac and run in foggy spots as well. otherwise, satellite pictures show -- this is -- hurricane jose is still a couple hundred miles

north carolina. it's not going to pose a big change to our weather. we might have a stray shower or two. the cloudiness and breeziness are part of the effects of hurricane jose. if you're planning a trip to the bay or the beaches over the next couple of days, it's going to be very, very windy, especially ocean city and rehoboth. meanwhile, temperatures mostly in the upper 60s to 70. it will be a warm day to be outside. temperatures in the upper 70s, low 80s. on the cloudy side. could be a stray shower or two. 20, 30% at the most. no big deal. >> not too bad. right now, we're talking about the emmys and d.c. public schools and how the school system right now is soaking up its 15 minutes of fame. you may have seen it was trending on twitter last night. an unexpected honor. we'd like to think our educators and families and our amazing

spotlight. >> president trump arriving back home in new york city yesterday. and getting ready to attend his first united nations general assembly as president. he is expected to meet with the leaders of israel and france and he will address the u.n. for the first time. north korea is going to be the big topic. another chaotic night in st. louis, missouri. you can see a large number of people running down the street here after some kind of disturbance. this is a third night in a row people protested the acquittal of a white former police officer charged in the shooting death of a black man in 2011. after day of peaceful protests, things turned violent at night. windows of businesses were smashed and police say t

were sprayed with some type of chemical. more than 80 people in the end were arrested. well, this morning six nasa researchers are really happy to be back on earth, to be home. they spent the past eight months in isolation on a remote volcano. they're part of a crew to better understand the psychological impact of long-term stage missions and what they would have on the astronauts. the data we hear that will help nasa take the perfect team on the two to three-year trip to mars, nasa hopes to send a crew to mars. the target year right now is 2030. i know that you're a space nut, chuck. when you talk about the psychology of all of this, imagine 1200 -- a small bedroom. two, two bedroom apartments. isolated species with nothing to do. >> they did it in hawaii. that a

the scary moment. north carolina officials saying one of the cars on the ferris wheel got stuck on friday. the employee climbed up and dislodged the stuck car, but lost his balance and the car kind of buckled. that's when he fell to the ground. luckily, though, he walked away with minor injuries. welcome back. 4:17 on this monday morning. take a look at some of the other stories still making headlines right now. today, we will hear from the family of the georgia tech student who was shot and killed by campus police. 21 ye-year-old scout schultz wa killed saturday night. a student said he had a knife and walking towards the officer who were yelling, drop it. the family wants to know why georgia tech officers had to use deadly force to resolve the encounter. four american college students attacked with acid in france yesterday. they are doing better. they're doing okay. french authorities say that the students were sprayed in the

train station. she was arrested officials at this point don't think that the incidents was terror-related but describe the suspect as disturbed. the americans are boston college students and they were all studying abroad. new video this morning. this is something that we have on our website. we'd like you to share. this could be the suspect in the subway bomb attack in london. the security video you're looking at shows the person carrying a grocery bag as they leave home friday morning. this was hours before the attack happened. that bag, it appears to be similar to the package that exploded on the train. police raided the property in connection with the bombing. and we know two people have been arrested in the case. but no one at this point has been identified as the suspected bomber. 20 people were hurt in that attack. it was a parade full of music and comedy and memories as

some showers, right, chuck? >> we're keeping an eye out for what could be a small rain chance for today and tomorrow as hurricane jose comes up the east coast of u.s. it's going to stay far enough offshore. we're not going to get any big impacts from it. ocean city and rehoboth are going to know there's a hurricane off the coastline. there it is right now. cape hatteras, north carolina. it's coming up about the same latitude as cape hatteras. no real immediate effects here. we will see more cloud cover today than yesterday. that is the outer most reaches of jose. as far as rain chances, here's future weather. there's a slight chance of a stray shower or two today. not looking for a lot of rain. but i couldn't completely rule out an isolated raindrop or two. on the whole, a pretty nice day to be outside. nice and humid. the daily grade is a b-plus. only a 20% chance for an isolated shower. just a small pocket-sized umbrella is allou

hurricane jose is whipping 90 mile per hour winds creating dangerous current as it barrels up the east coast. on its heels, hurricane maria strengthening as it heads for barbuda, st. martin and the virgin islands all trying to pick up the pieces in the aftermath of the category 5 they fac faced days ago. >> they have the mental anguish and burden of trying to pick up after irma has gone through and now bearing down with maria, there's so much in front of them right now and the season has two nonts go. >> the governor warning this hurricane could be even worse. >> make sure that your families are safe. we can start the rebuilding process once again after this. >> while neighbors wait anxiously and get ready for round two. >> just buying plywood to lock up the doors and window. >> morgan radford, nbc news, miami.

you would never know it because it's not windy outside. if you're along the beaches in delaware or maryland along the coastline or in virginia along the coast, you'll be feeling it. the wind will be picking up. we're tracking jose. as far as the rain is concerned, it's offshore. it's going to hang offshore. here's a look at the watches and warnings. tropical storm watches and warnings for the offshore waters. then we have a -- it's going to start to get windy going through the next 24 to 48 hours. in those areas. locally, though, yes mild this morning, patchy fog. temperatures will stay around 70 degrees as you're walking outside. by noon, near 80. isolated shower chance later on today. highs will stay around 80. still mild as we go into the evening. coming up, though, chuck and i are back and we'll talk about what you can expect for the day today. a closer look at the timing of this and of course, what we expect for the winds as far
