many parents are not confident their child's school is equipped to handle serious health issues. this is according to a poll from the university of michigan. most parents are sure the school could provide aid for cuts and bruises but less -- 38% of parents believe schools can help with a mental health problem. mcdonald's is getting in on the trend of making fast food healthier. your child will reap the benefits of it. beginning in november, mcdonald's will include organic juice in happy meals. it's replacing traditional juice. less sugar is a good thing. customers can opt for a conta container of 1% fat milk or fat-free chocolate milk. don't make that face. chocolate milk is delicious. >> can i roll my eyes hard enough on this? >> i think they were rolling pretty hard when i was reading the story. >> let the kids have some ju

than 42,000 complaints last year at both airports. that is a huge increase from two years ago when there were just under 10,000 complaints. politicians and residents blame the increase on the faa's change to flight paths. you can go to the nbc washington facebook page to let us know what you think about the noise. want to go to angie goff at the live desk. >> what's happening in st. louis? >> just a couple hours ago the mayor of st. louis said again that most of the protesters that they have been dealing with, they're not violent. the days have been calm but the nights have been destructive. take a look. this is video showing the new damage we're seeing. broken windows here. people pushed over flowerpots. we saw crowds running through the streets. during the day, they marched and chanted and inside some of the buildings. that was peaceful. after the sunset, police say that 80 people in all were arrested overnight. we could see even more protests

bet ready for metro delays. they're single tracking between new carrollton and cheverly. the reason construction delays over the weekend. adam tuss is live outside of the new carrollton station with a look at what this means for you. adam, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, eun. this is going to mean a longer wait time for anyone who uses this section of the orange line. take a look as riders are already trying to fill in to trains here. these guys will have to wait. norm,

on opposite platforms that are just going. this train is going to sit for about ten minutes before anyone actually moves. people who are coming to this section of the orange line need to really be prepared. this is all because of an issue with a contractor that metro was using to pour concrete for some rail work that was going on over the weekend. usually what they would do is pour some concrete, get it down there on the rails and it could cure and everything would be fine. metro said there was an issue getting the concrete to settle. when you're dealing with concrete, that's an issue that who knows how long it will take. metro is going to reassess the situation this morning and might have to deal with a couple extra longer delays. again, single tracking between new carrollton and cheverly. this is going to affect everyone from new carrollton to minnesota avenue. be prepared to give yourself extra time especially along this section of the orange line, guys. >> adam, are there any other stations people should be

alternates to get around what's happening at these spots? >> reporter: aaron, if you're on this section of the system, the best thing is go to the blue line, largo or morgan boulevard. you can park your car there, catch a bus there. that might be an all the mat for you or else sit here and wait for 10 to 15 minutes like these people are doing. but 10 to 15 minutes and add on the regular metro commute. >> adam tuss, thank you. some metro riders have to use access service to get around, especially if they use a wheelchair. that changes today in maryland. we'll get to that story in addition to other stories. we're going to hear today from the family of a georgia tech student who was shot and killed by campus police. one of the top stories we're following for thu morning. 21-year-old scott shult was killed saturday night. the students say he was carrying a knife and the police were yelling

they want to know why deadly force was necessary. the security video shows a person carrying a grocery bag as they leave home friday morning hours before the attack in london. >> the bag appears to be similar to the package that exploded on the train. police raided that property in connection with the bombing. no one has been identified as the suspected bomber. 20 people were hurt in the bombing. four american college students attacked with acid in france yesterday are okay. french authorities say the students were sprayed in the face wa acid by a woman at a train station. she was arrested officials don't think it was terror-related. they describe the suspect as disturbed. they're boston college students spending time abroad. two major storms headed for spots trying to pick up after hurricane irma. hurricane jose is whipping up winds and

current off the carolinas and on its heels is hurricane maria. that's strengthening and taking aim at the caribbean islands. in puerto rico, people who live there are gearing up for what could be another big hit. a lot of people stocking up on water and wood. the governor warning this could be worse than irma. sheena, we know this is a busy time of year for hurricanes. >> it is. >> so many monster storms it seems like. >> the caribbean has been decimated. to think they have to prepare once again, i feel bad for them. >> me too. it's very unfortunate. if you think about it, antigua, barbuda, 90% of the storms were ruined. they're not going to be seeing good conditions at all. this is expected to be a major hurricane. we'll talk about what's going on, on shore. this morning, as you leave, we have fog to tell you about. leesburg, half mile visibility, frederick less than a half mile. patchy fog this morning.

mid up toer 60s. 71 now in the district. if you're walking outside, it is very mild out. we're not going to feel the effects of jose today as far as winds are concerned. we have the cloud cover around and we do have a few isolated showers in the forecast, especially this afternoon. again, we're watching hurricane jose. it's offshore. if you're closer to the beaches, this is going to increase your wind. look what it's going to do. it's going to make this loop and some computer models are hinting it's going to loop back around and give us rain early next week. there it is now. most of the cloud cover is offshore. tropical storm watches and warnings for the offshore areas, including rehe beth beach. winds could be gusting near 40 miles an hour for the eastern shore and towards virginia beach. we have a high surf advisory. waves breaking maybe 8 to 11 feet. beach erosion. high risk of rip current there. keep that in mind. going into tomorrow, breezier

mostly in the mid to upper 60s inside the beltway. once you're outside the beltway, a couple of degrees cooler and that little change in temperature is what's causing some of the fog to form early this morning. four things to know about the weather. clouds today from hurricane jose which will have a bigger impact on the beaches. i couldn't rule out one or two quick rain showers. rain chances only 20 to 30%. not an impactful amount of rain. especially once you go over the bridge and under the eastern shore, because of jose it will be breezy around here for tomorrow. particularly by the bay. visibility down to zero at la ray right now. frederick to parts of northern maryland, keep that in mind. keep your low beams on, the speeds down a smidgen. shenandoah valley, northern maryland that's where the fog is. on the whole, the daily grade today b-plus. not a bad day to be outside. high around 81 degrees. again, no more than just a smallest little umbrella. sort of a

next 48 hours. >> right now, jose is staying close, about 200 miles off the ocean city coast. we're still seeing -- still going to see some of the strong winds from this. the storm expected to weaken as had heads north. let's go to the weather center and sheena parveen. >> it's a category 1. it's bound to be causing issues closer to land. here it is. as we go through time, we're going to advance this and you see the track of this. so it is expected to weaken. but take a look at this loop that it does. some computer models, they keep it offshore but they're showing t this. hurricane jose right off the coastline. it's causing tropical storm watches and warnings, mainly for the offshore waters. if you're parts of southern delaware, rehoboth beach, along the jersey shore, that's a tropical storm watch. we had warnings off the coast of the eastern shore. winds gusting 40 miles per hour

inland, closer to 20 miles an hour. high surf for the eastern shore, too. that's not only the only one. we're watching maria which could be a major hurricane nearing puerto rico. dominican republic and potentially near the bahamas, we'll take a closer look at this. it will impact coming up in a bit. >> sheena, thanks for that. as irma blew through key west residents and other islanders had to evacuate. not knowing when they would be able to return home or even if their home was still standing. authorities finally loud monroe county residents to return home starting saturday morning. there is a checkpoint in place right now to make sure that only residents of the lower keys are being allowed to return as the recovery effort in other areas continues. power has slowly been returning to parts of the keys allowing communication efforts -- you are looking at photos from the double fatal crash in great falls. fairfax county police say b

we're getting closer to finding out the new name for jeb stewart high school. on saturday, they voted on potential names for the school. the leading choices are stuart or stuart raiders and a var yigs of thorough good marshall. it's currently named after a confederate military leader. they will post the recommendation for the new name on thursday and then present it to the school board next week. a final vote on all of this is scheduled for october 26th. >> there's been a lot of controversy whether it's worth changing the name. it will be costly to change the signage. >> same question wit s

names and so forth. we'll see what happens. 5:4 right now. construction to begin on the largest high school in montgomery counties. today school leaders will break ground on the new seneca valley high school. it will be built on crystal rock drive where the current school is now. when it opens in the fall of 2020, it will be able to hold more than 2400 students. if you have a child in montgomery county public schools, you'll notice letter grades are making a comeback. that's according to the "washington post." the school system is getting rid of the old system, which included 36789 ps, meaning proficient. district officials made that change after a long tryout failed to resolve complaints and glitches with the old system. it's hard to figure out what proficient is, satisfactory, that sort of thing on a scale for kids. >> especially when we associate a number, a letter and a number to understand what is good and what's nod good. >> you can compare. 5:40 i
